The vibrational behavior of nanoelements is critical in determining how a nanostructure behaves. However, combining vibrational analysis with stability analysis allows for a more comprehensive knowledge of a structure's behavior. As a result, the goal of this research is to characterize the behavior of nonlocal nanocyndrical beams with uniform and nonuniform cross sections. The nonuniformity of the beams is determined by three distinct section functions, namely linear, convex, and exponential functions, with the length and mass of the beams being identical. For completely clamped, fully pinned, and cantilever boundary conditions, Eringen's nonlocal theory is combined with the Timoshenko beam model. The extended differential quadrature technique was used to solve the governing equations in this research. In contrast to the other boundary conditions, the findings of this research reveal that the nonlocal impact has the opposite effect on the frequency of the uniform cantilever nanobeam. Furthermore, since the mass of the materials employed in these nanobeams is designed to remain the same, the findings may be utilized to help improve the frequency and buckling stress of a resonator without requiring additional material, which is a cost-effective benefit.
This article focuses on the study of the buckling behavior of two-dimensional functionally graded (2D-FG) nanosize tubes, including porosity, based on the first shear deformation and higher-order theory of the tube. The nano-scale tube is simulated using the nonlocal gradient strain theory, and the general equations and boundary conditions are derived using Hamilton's principle for the Zhang-Fu's tube model (as a higher-order theory) and Timoshenko beam theory. Finally, the derived equations are solved using a numerical method for both simply-supported and clamped boundary conditions. A parametric study is performed to investigate the effects of different parameters, such as axial and radial FG power indices, porosity parameter, and nonlocal gradient strain parameters, on the buckling behavior of the bi-dimensional functionally graded porous tube. Geometrically non-linear axisymmetric bending of a shallow spherical shell with a clamped or a simply supported edge under axisymmetric load was investigated numerically. The partial load was introduced by the Heaviside step function, and the solution was obtained by the finite difference and the Newton-Raphson methods. The thickness of the shell was considered to be uniform and the material was assumed to be homogeneous and isotropic. Sensitivity analysis was made for three geometrical parameters. The accuracy of the algorithm was checked by comparing the central deflection, the radial membrane stress at the edge, or the transverse shear force with the solutions of plates and shells in the literature and good agreement was obtained. The main findings of the study can be outlined as follows: (i) If the shell is fully loaded the central deflection of a clamped shell is larger than that of a simply supported shell provided that the shell is not very shallow, (ii) if the shell is partially loaded the central deflection of the shell is sensitive to the parameters of thickness, depth, and partial loading but the influence of the boundary conditions is negligible.

The receptance method was applied for the analysis of a cylindrical shell with a curvaturated plate attached at the top of the shell. The boundary conditions of the shell considered here were clamped at the bottom and free at the top of the shell. Before the analysis of the shell/plate combined structure, the natural frequencies of the plate and the shell were calculated separately and then they were used in the calculation of the frequencies of the combined structure by the receptance method. The frequency equation of the combined structure was derived from the continuity condition at the junction of the shell and the plate. The frequencies for various curvature factors of the plate were presented and compared with those from ANSYS to show its validity of the present method.
This paper addresses a sliding mode control of vibration in a flexible structure using ER(electro-rheological) dampers. A clamped-clamped flexible structure system supported by two short columns is considered. Three ER dampers to be operated in shear mode are designed on the basis of Bingham model of the arabic gum-based ER fluid, and attached to the flexible beam structure. After deriving the governing equation of motion and associated boundary conditions, a sliding mode controller is formulated to effectively suppress the vibration of the beam structure caused by sinusoidal and random excitations. In the formulation of the controller, parameter variations such as natural frequency deviation are treated to take into account the robustness of control system. The effectiveness of the proposed control system is confirmed by both simulation and experimental results.
The purpose of this paper is to study the geometrically nonlinear free vibration of functionally graded nano/micro beams (FGNBs) based on the modified couple stress theory. For practical applications, some analytical expressions of nonlinear frequencies for FGNBs on a nonlinear Pasternak foundation are developed. Hamilton's principle is employed to obtain nonlinear governing differential equations in the context of both Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam theories for a comprehensive investigation. The modified continuum theory contains one material length scale parameter to capture the size effect. The variation of two-constituent material along the thickness is modeled using Reddy's power-law. Also, the Mori-Tanaka method as an accurate homogenization technique is implemented to estimate the effective material properties of the FGNBs. The results are presented for both hinged-hinged and clamped-clamped boundary conditions. The nonlinear partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations using Galerkin method and then the powerful method of homotopy analysis is utilized to obtain the semi-analytical solutions. Eventually, the presented analytical expressions are used to examine the influences of the length scale parameter, material gradient index, and elastic foundation on the nonlinear free vibration of FGNBs.
Free axial vibration of axially functionally graded (AFG) nanorods is studied by focusing on the inertia of lateral motions and shear stiffness effects. To this end, Bishop's theory considering the inertia of the lateral motions and shear stiffness effects and the nonlocal theory considering the small scale effect are used. The material properties are assumed to change continuously through the length of the AFG nanorod according to a power-law distribution. Then, nonlocal governing equation of motion and boundary conditions are derived by implementing the Hamilton's principle. The governing equation is solved using the harmonic differential quadrature method (HDQM), After that, the first five axial natural frequencies of the AFG nanorod with clamped-clamped end condition are obtained. In the next step, effects of various parameters like the length of the AFG nanorod, the diameter of the AFG nanorod, material properties, and the nonlocal parameter value on natural frequencies are investigated. Results of the present study can be useful in more accurate design of nano-electro-mechanical systems in which nanotubes are used.
Present paper deals with the large amplitude flexural vibration of carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) plates. Distribution of CNTs as reinforcements may be uniform or functionally graded (FG). The equivalent material properties of the composite media are obtained according to a refined rule of mixtures which contains efficiency parameters. To account for the large deformations, von $K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n$ type of geometrical nonlinearity is included into the formulation. The matrix representation of the governing equations is obtained according to the Ritz method where the basic shape functions are written in terms of the Chebyshev polynomials. Time dependency of the problem is eliminated by means of the Galerkin method and the resulting nonlinear eigenvalue problem is solved employing a direct displacement control approach. Results are obtained for completely clamped and completely simply supported plates. Results are first validated for the especial cases of FG-CNTRC and cross-ply laminated plates. Afterwards, parametric studies are given for FG-CNTRC plates with different boundary conditions. It is shown that, nonlinear frequencies are highly dependent to the volume fraction and dispersion profiles of CNTs. Furthermore, mode redistribution is observed in both simply supported and clamped FG-CNTRC plates.
This study investigates the problem of crack detection in post-buckled beam-type structures. The beam under the axial compressive force has a crack, assumed to be open and through the width. The crack, which is modeled by a massless rotational spring, divides the beam into two segments. The crack detection is considered as an optimization problem, and the weighted sum of the squared errors between the measured and computed natural frequencies is minimized by the bees algorithm. To find the natural frequencies, the governing nonlinear equations of motion for the post-buckled state are first derived. The solution of the nonlinear differential equations of the two segments consists of static and dynamic parts. The differential quadrature method along with an arc length strategy is used to solve the static part, while the same method is utilized for the solution of the linearized dynamic part and the extraction of the natural frequencies of the cracked beam. The investigation includes several numerical as well as experimental case studies on the post-buckled simply supported and clamped-clamped beams having open cracks. The results show that several parameters such as the amount of applied compressive force and boundary conditions influences the outcome of the crack detection scheme. The identification results also show that the crack position and depth can be predicted well by the presented method.
The impulsive stress and wave propagation of a glass/epoxy laminate subjected to the transverse low-velocity impact of a steel ball are investigated theoretically and experimentally. A plate finite element model based on Whitney and Pagano's theory In consunchon with experimental contact laws is used for the theoretical investigation. The specimens fo, statical indentation and impact test we composed of [0/45/0/-45/0]$_{2s}$ and [90/45/90/-45/90]$_{2s}$ stacking sequences and have clamped-simply supported boundary conditions. Finally, these two results are compared and then the impulsive stress and wave propagation characteristics of this laminated composite are studied.ied.
