  • To investigate opportunities for wood frame housing and to activate wood frame house construction, trends of construction activities. preference about housing, and building codes related to wood frame housing were discussed. And two models of wood frame house were developed and construction cost was analyzed to compare with comparative masonry houses. The results obtained were as follows: 1. While 77.8% of people prefer single-family houses, majority of people(74.9%), ironically, possess multi-family houses such as apartments Wood work cost was ratio of 4% of total building cost. while wood material cost accounted merely for 11 % out of total building material cost. 2. Building code was not major barrier to residential house at height under 13m. The building code regulated major structural member and family boder wall of multi-family house to be built with fire retardant material. 3. The proper wood frame house was analyzed of town house or villa type locating in suburban of big city with hot ondol system for the upper middle class. 4 There was no difference in construction cost between western style wood frame house and comparable masonry house, but construction cost for Korean style wood frame house is 27% higher than that of comparable masonry house. It was necessary to reduce materials and cost down by prefabrication technique for both style of wood frame house.

  • The Inscribed stones of Hanyangdoseong has been weathered for a long time because of external environment and living organisms. To establish a long-term conservation-management strategy for the inscription stones, the material characteristics of the inscription stones of Naksan Mountain Area were identified, and its deterioration state was diagnosed. Consequently, it was confirmed that the Inscription stones of Naksan Mountain Area mainly comprised coarse-to medium-grained pinkish granite and biotite granite, and, in part, comprised reddish granite, quartz porphyry, and aplite. Presently, the Inscription stones of Naksan Mountain Area, Hanyangdoseong, is undergoing a considerable decrease in physical properties because of physical, chemical, and biological weathering. Moreover, it has been confirmed that the type of damage, such as blistering, soiling, and dicolouration, on the surface shows a significantly high deterioration rate, and that conservation treatment might be required in future. In addition, because the possibility of damage recurrence is high even after the treatment, the conservation state must be regularly monitored.

  • The Hengda Group super high-rise building in Jinan City uses the frame-core tube structural system. With a height of 238.3 m, it is above the B-level height limit of 150 m for buildings within 7-magnitude seismic fortification zones. Therefore, it is necessary to apply performance-based seismic design to this super high-rise building. In this study, response spectrum analysis and comparative analysis of the structure are conducted using two software applications. Moreover, elastic time-history analysis, seismic analysis under an intermediate earthquake, and elastic-plastic time-history analysis under rare earthquakes are performed. Based on the analysis results, corresponding strengthening measures are implemented at weaker structural locations, such as corners, wall ends connected to framed girders, and coupling beams connected to framed girders. The failure mode and failure zone of major stress components of the structure under rare earthquakes are analysed. The conclusions to this research demonstrate that weaker locations and important parts of the structure satisfy the requirements for elastic-plastic deformation in the event of rare earthquakes.

  • The direction of this study lies in exploring a schematic proposal for a historical walk over an area called 'West Village' located inside the old city wall of Seoul. The case study area is comparable to the historic 'North Village,' including historical assets such as the Kyunghi Royal Palace and Sajik-dan. Moreover, it has spectacular scenic spots surrounding Mt. Inwang and Baegundong Stream, although this has now been paved over for use as a road. This village maintained its fame as a hub of art through the early 20th century. The comprehensive approach of this study ranges from the historical and cultural to the ecological and visual. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. A themed walk would commemorate the great leader of national independence, Baegbeom Kim Ku, as well as the famous Korean style realistic landscape painting school under the leadership of Kyumjae Jeong Seon, a great artist of the Josun Dynasty. In addition, a scenic streamside walk would accentuate the surrounding panoramic vistas which were drawn by Kyumjae, while at the same time allowing the ecological system of Baegundong Stream to be uncovered and restored.

  • As the existing school building power consumption is expressed by total power consumption, in the view of energy saving is disadvantage. The the power consumption of school building is divided as cooling, heating, lighting and others. The cooling power consumption, heating power consumption, lighting power consumption can be calculated using real total power consumption that gained from Korea Electric Power Corporation(KEPCO). The power consumption for cooling and heating can be calculated using heat transmittance, wall area and floor area, and for lighting is calculated by artificial lighting calculation. but this calculation methods is difficult for laymen. This study was carried out in order to establish the regression equation for cooling power consumption, heating power consumption, lighting power consumption and other power consumption in school building. In order to verify the validity of the regression equation, it is compared regression equation results and calculation results based on real power consumption. As the results, difference between regression result and calculation results for cooling and heating power consumption showed 0.6% and 3.6%.

  • The purpose of this study is that it is made clear the construction method of Japanese Castle Architecture in Korea as I study the construction method of Suncheon-Japanese Castle(順天倭城) in those days of Jeong-yu Japanese Invasion. Moreover, I intend to analyze the similarity and the difference between Suncheon-Japanese Castle and Korean Castle Architecture by a comparative study. The result of the study is showed that Suncheon-Japanese Castle seemed to be built with the object of a long time stay rather than it was of strategic importance for the national defense. In addition, it was different from other Japanese Castle in Korea because the watch tower(天守閣) of it stood in the middle of stronghold and the watch tower stronghold dividing the round of it while that of it stood the comer of stronghold. The face stone used in important part of watch tower, gate, and so on was mostly a trimed hexangular stone. On the other hand, the face abbuting on the Gulf of kwang-yang was made of naturally wild face stone. The stone cleared traces of Si-hyeol(矢穴) and domestic Castle in Japan was also made of this method after Im-Jin Japanese Invasion. According to the construction method, the wall of castle made use of the Netak(內托) method except the gate, the support stronghold and the watch. The early mountain castle in Korea have this construction method in common.

  • Pipe jacking is a name for a method to excavate a tunnel by pushing pipe into the ground from an especial pit. Size of tunnels in this method is different from under 900mm (microtunneling) to more than 3,000mm. Method of excavation is also different from hand digging to use of any kind of tunnel boring machines such as slurry and earth pressure balance (EPB) machines. Slurry pipe jacking was firmly established as a special method for the nondisruptive construction of the underground tunnels in urban area. During the pipe jacking and microtunneling process, the jacking load is an important parameter, controlling the pipe wall thickness, need to and location of intermediate jacking station, selection of jacking frame and lubrication requirements. The main component of the jacking load is due to frictional resistance. In this paper the skin friction between pipe surface and surrounding condition also lubricant quality based on a few fundamental tests, were considered. During this study unconfined compressive strength test, dynamic friction measurement test and direct shear box test were raised for one of the largest diameter slurry pipe jacking project in Fujisawa city in Japan. It could be concluded that in slurry pipe jacking, prediction of frictional forces are mainly dependent on successful lubrication, its quality and lubricant strength parameters. Conclusions from this study can be used for the same experiences.

  • This study is based on the 15th century's architecture Mohwagwan and Taepyeonggwan and the architects behind it. The results were as follows: First, inline with Ming dynasty's protocol, the King of Joseon marched with honor guard in front of his people. Therefore, the Joseon dynasty needed to match space was implemented and result in Mohwagwan and Taepyeonggwan. Second, King Taejong founded Mohwaru to share the role with Taepyeonggwan. He appropriately utilized Mohwaru as a place in manners before people enter the Seoul city wall. And He organized this architecture on the level of the palace. Third, Pak Jacheong was overseer the whole constructive process, from the selection of site, landscaping, construction, maintenance to civil engineering of Mohwaru. There are many difficulties, but he completed through the construction work owing to the protection of King Taejong. Forth, Hong Li worked with Pak Jacheong to build Taepyeonggwan and Mohwagwan from Taejong to Sejong. Supervisors in King Sejong times were required not only private capability but also understanding the Confucianism ritual. Hong Li was faithfully performed the role. Fifth, Sejong was recognized only an excellent ruler but he was also a great coordinator with a professional knowledge about architecture. These Sejong's action fully can be seen as an architect.
