자동차용 냉간압연재의 드로우비드 성형시 비드 형상별 마찰특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Friction Characteristics of Circular bead and rectangular bead in Drawbead Forming of Cold Rolled Steels for Automotive Parts)

  • The drawbead is one of the most important factors in sheet metal forming for automotive parts. So clarifying the friction characteristics between sheets and drawbead is essential to improve the formability of sheet metal. Therefore in this study, drawbead friction test was performed at circular shape bead and rectangular shape bead. The results show that the tendency of drawing force for rectangular bead is nearly similar with circular bead and the drawing force is nearly proportional to friction coefficient.

  • In sheet metal forming, drawbeads are often used to control uneven material flow, which may cause defects such as wrinkles, fractures, surface distortion and springback. Appropriate setting and adjusting of the drawbead force is one of the most important parameters in sheet forming process control. Therefore in this study, drawbead test was performed at various bead surface treatment conditions to clarify the frictional characteristics between sheet and drawbead. Furthermore, the differences in drawing force between circular and rectangular shape beads have also been measured to estimate the effectiveness of bead shape on the material flow control. The results show that drawing and friction characteristic were strongly influenced by surface treatments of bead and bead shapes.

  • Draw-bead is applied to control the material flow in a stamping process and improve the product quality by controlling the draw-bead restraining force (DBRF). Actual die design depends mostly on the trial-and-error method without calculating the optimum DBRF. Die design with the predicted value of DBRF can be utilized at the tryout stage effectively reducing the cost of the product development. For the prediction of DBRF, a simulation-based prediction model of the circular draw-bead is developed using the Box-Behnken design with selected shape parameters such as the bead height, the shoulder radius and the sheet thickness. The value of DBRF obtained from each design case by analysis is approximated by a second order regression equation. This equation can be utilized to the calculation of the restraining force and the determination of the draw-bead shape as a prediction model. For the evaluation of the prediction model, the optimum design of DBRF in sheet metal forming is carried out using response surface methodology. The suitable type of the draw-bead is suggested based on the optimum values of DBRF. The prediction model of the circular draw-bead proposes the design method of the draw-bead shape. The present procedure provides a guideline in the tool design stage for sheet metal forming to reduce the cost of the product development.

  • The drawbead is one of the most important factors in sheet metal forming for automotive parts. So clarifying the friction characteristics between sheets and drawbead is essential to improve the formability of sheet metal. Therefore in this study, drawbead friction test was performed at various bead materials(FC300, HC891, FCD550, HD700, HK600, HK700, SKD11) and surface treatment of beads(Base, induction hardening, Cr plating, ion nitriding, Toyoda diffusion process, TiCN, TiN, CrN). Circular shape bead has been used for the test. The results show that friction and drawing characteristics were mainly influenced by surface treatment.

  • The stainless steel basket-bowl, a critical component of washing machines, is characterized by its unique two-tiered circular shape. This study explores the potential of a draw-bead free die design to address tearing concerns in the prospective plastic layer during the drawing operation. In order to prevent wrinkles that may arise from the absence of a draw-bead, a two-stage punch configuration is proposed. The influence of the blank holder force on wrinkle reduction is also examined. Finite element analysis is employed to evaluate the proposed die design by analyzing the wrinkle shape and strain mode. The results confirm that the stainless steel basket-bowl can be successfully drawn without wrinkles utilizing the proposed two-stage punch without a draw-bead on the blank holder. These findings contribute to the development of more efficient and reliable manufacturing processes for the stainless steel basket-bowl production.

  • The drawbead is an important part in sheet metal forming for automotive part and its effect is affected by various process parameters. Therefore in this study, drawbead friction test was performed at various process parameters - panels (cold rolled and galvanized sheet steel), lubricants (having three different viscosities), bead materials(steel, iron) and surface treatment of bead (Cr plating). Circular shape bead has been used for the test. The results show that friction and drawing characteristics were mainly influenced by the nature of zinc coating, viscosity of lubricants, surface treatment of a bead and hardness of coated layer.

Appropriate setting and adjusting of the drawbead force is one of the most important parameters in sheet forming process control. Therefore in this study, drawbead friction test with circular shape bead was performed at various sheets, lubricants(dry, three kinds of lubricants having different viscosities), bead materials and surface treatments of bead surface. The results obtained by drawbead friction test show that the friction and drawing characteristics of deforming panels were mainly influenced by strength of sheet, viscosity of lubricant and hardness of bead surface.

Circular shape bead has been used for the test. The results show that friction and drawing characteristics were mainly influenced by the nature of zinc coating.

Simulations of pendant drop formation of a viscoelastic liquid

  • A modified Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) numerical method is used to predict the dynamics of a liquid drop of a low viscosity dilute polymer solution, forming in air from a circular nozzle. Viscoelastic effects are rep-resented using an Oldroyd-B model. Predicted drop shapes are compared with experimental observations. The main features, including the timing of the shape evolution and the 'bead-on-a-string' effect, are well reproduced by the simulations. The results confirm published conclusions of the third author, that the deformation is effectively Newtonian until near the time of Newtonian pinch-off and that the elastic stress becomes large in the pinch region due to the higher extensional flow there.
