  • The Klippel-Feil Syndrome (KFS) is characterized by congenital fusion of two or more vertebrae with hypermobile normal segment. According to this, a patient with KFS can be at risk of severe neurological symptoms after manipulation treatment. We had a KFS patient who suffered from neck pain and limited range of motion at cervical after manipulation treatment. The patient, 49-year-old woman was diagnosed as KFS through Cervical X-ray and MRI. The patient was treated by acupuncture therapy and SCENAR therapy. We measured neck pain by visual analog scale (VAS) and neck disability index (NDI) and checked range of motion at cervical before and after the treatments. After 8 times treatments, the patient's pain decreased and the range of motion increased. From this case, we can recognize the risk of Chuna manipulation treatment for KFS patient. So, we suggest that radiological examination is needed before cervical Chuna manipulation treatment to avoid adverse reactions.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of using acupuncture and moxibustion for the treatment of hip arthroplasty. Methods : We searched a total of six Korean and international databases (OASIS, KISS, RISS, Pubmed, Cochrane library, and CNKI) up to March 2019, and included randomized controlled trials which investigated the treatment effects of acupuncture and moxibustion in patients with hip arthroplasty. Results : In total, 29 studies were selected and included in the analysis. These studies conducted interventions, with the most frequently conducted methods being electroacupuncture (24.1%) and auricular acupuncture (20.7%). The most frequently used acupoints were the Ashi-, Lower four-, and Lower five points. VAS (48.9%) and Harris scores (22.2%) were commonly used to evaluate treatment effects. In total, 27 studies (93.1%) reported favorable treatment effects following acupuncture and moxibustion treatment, compared to the control group. Conclusions : These results may suggest that acupuncture and moxibustion have favorable effect on Hip arthroplasty.

  • Objectives: We conducted this study to evaluate the efficacy of Chuna Manual Therapy (CMT) for treatment of cervicogenic headache (CeH) through systematic review and Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) as a preceding research to further research the effective of Chuna Manual Therapy for patients who suffered from CeH. Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. We searched the studies from MEDLINE, Elsevier-EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, CAJD, KISS, KMBase, Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal, NDSL, and OASIS. The studies selected only in randomized controlled trials. We selected the chosen studies by the selection and the exclusion criteria, and evaluated the quality of the selected studies using the Jadad score and the Cochran ROB tool. We used the Visual Analogue Scale score (VAS) and Clinical total Effective Rate (CER) for the results and analyzed the results of the included studies using RevMan 5.3 software provided by the Cochran library. Results: We included 20 RCTs, including 1,673 subjects, in the systematic review and meta-analysis. After the intervention, the CMT group showed better results than the pharmacotherapy group, the physiotherapy group, and the combined treatment group. The CMT group showed a good effect on the CER and the VAS but showed a significant heterogeneity compared to the pharmacotherapy group. Conclusions: The CMT as monotherapy might have benefits on Cervicogenic Headache patient. Further well-designed studies need to be conducted.

  • Objectives This study aimed to analyze the research trends in clinical studies on the traditional Korean medicine used for cancer treatment between 2011 and 2020. Methods We searched 7 Korean web databases (Research Information Sharing Service [RISS], Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System [OASIS], Koreanstudies Information Service System [KISS], Korean Medical database [KMBASE], DBpia, Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information [KISTI], and KoreaMed) and classified collected papers dated between 2011 and 2020 by the year of publication, publication journal, study design, type of cancer affecting the patients, interventions used, evaluation system used, and combination with conventional medicine. Results A total of 167 papers were collected. More than 10 papers were published annually. The papers were mainly published in the Journal of Korean Traditional Oncology (28.7%). The predominant type of the study was case study (67.7%). The main type of cancer was breast cancer, affecting 262 patients. Most of the studies reported using multiple traditional Korean medicine treatments (55.1%). Eighty-nine studies reported using clinical laboratory tests for evaluation. Most of the patients took conventional medicine simultaneously (608 patients). Conclusions Research related to Korean medicine for cancer patients is at a rudimentary level. Therefore, for further clarity, high evidence-based researches, including randomized controlled trials and cohort studies, should be conducted.
