Characterization of Chlorinated NR using Pyrolytic Technique

  • Vehicle wiper blades are typically treated with chlorine to lower their friction coefficient with the windshield surface. In this study, a chlorinated, natural rubber (NR) vehicle wiper blade was characterized using a pyrolytic technique. Unchlorinated and chlorinated wiper blades were pyrolyzed and the pyrolysis products were analyzed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Besides isoprene and dipentene, the other principal pyrolysis products such as 1,5,8-p-menthatriene (MTT) and p,α-dimethylstyrene (DMS) were observed. The MTT and DMS ratios did not vary for the chlorinated nor unchlorinated samples when the entire rubber lip of the wiper blade was pyrolyzed. However, when only the lip surface of the wiper blade rubber was pyrolyzed (via scratching with a knife) the relative ratios of the chlorinated sample were much greater than those of the unchlorinated sample. As MTT is produced from the conjugated backbone of chlorinated NR that forms through HCl elimination during initial pyrolysis, and DMS is generated by the dehydrogenation of MTT, these two products could be used as markers for detecting chlorinated NR.

저연기성 이액형 방염우레탄락카 백색도료 연구 (Study for Binary Liquid Type Fire Retardant White Paint of Polyurethane Lacquer)

  • 방염도료로 일액형 염화고무(Chlorinated Rubber) 백색도료가 많이 사용되고 있는데 이는 탄화시 검은 연기가 많이 발생되고 목재에 대한 표면강도와 접착력 등의 미흡한 단점이 있어 이러한 점 등을 고려한 Polyurethane Resin계(Alkyd Resin) 이액형 방염우레탄라카 백색도료를 개발하였다. 본 실험에서 개발한 목재용 Polyurethane Resin계 방염도료 조성의 물성은 기존의 방염백색도료보다 목재와의 친화력이 향상되고 다량의 연기발생은 억제하는 결과를 얻었다.

와이퍼 블레이드 고무의 표면 처리에 따른 특성 (The Characteristics of Wiper Blade Rubber with Surface Treatments)

  • The surface of wiper blade(W/B) rubber was chlorinated by chemical treatment method using the hydrochloric acid(HCI) and sodium hypochlorite(NaOCl). From the results of contact angle measurement, friction coefficient measurement, and ATR-IR spectra, the surface characteristics of chlorinated W/B rubber with time of chlorination were studied. Contact angles for W/B rubber with increasing time of chlorination and chlorine concentration were measured for the water and ethylene glycol. From the results, contact angle fell rapidly with increasing time of chlorination and chlorine concentration, reaching a constant value after about 10min. And the wettability of W/B rubber surface by means of chlorination has been improved. For an unchlorinated W/B rubber, the friction coefficient with time of chlorination decreased from 1.27 to 0.20~0.23 on full chlorination. As the results it was considered that abrasion resistance of W/B rubber surface has been also improved. The values of pH and $Cl^-$ ion concentration in a chlorine treatment solution decreased as the extent of chlorination of W/B rubber surface increased. From the results of ATR-IR spectra, it was observed that C=C double band of W/B rubber surface transformed into C-Cl band, but quantitative determination of the extent of chlorination was not feasible because of the complexity of chlorination reactions.

인산 에스테르게 난연제 BDPDH를 첨가한 CPE 고무재료의 난연성 및 내열성 (Flame Retardance and Thermal Resistance of CPE Rubber Compound Containing a Phosphoric Ester Flame Retardant BDPDH)

  • 자동차 Oil cooler용 호스를 구성하는 고무재료의 내열 및 난연성을 향상시키기 위하여 인산 에스테르계 화합물을 내열 및 난연제로 하여 제조한 염소화 폴리에틸렌(CPE) 배합고무의 가황 특성, 물리적 성질, 내열성, 난연성 및 변량효과를 조사하였다. 호스용 고무재료는 기존의 ethyleneacrylate rubber(EAR)보다 화학적 내식성과 내한성이 우수하면서도 가격이 저렴한 CPE 고무재료를 사용하였으며, 난연제는 비할로겐 축합 인산 에스테르계인 N,N'-bis-(diphenylphosphoro) diaminohexane(BDPDH)를 합성하여 CPE 고무재료와 $0{\sim}30 phr$ 범위에서 혼련하였다. 배합고무시편의 경도, 인장강도, 신율, 인장응력 및 열적 특성을 측정한 결과, CPE 배합고무의 유동성, 난연성, 내열성이 향상되었음을 확인하였으며, 고무재료 규격을 초과하지 않는 범위 내에서 최대의 내열 및 난연 효과를 주는 BDPDH의 배합량은 20 phr로 나타났다.

  • 염소화폴리에틸렌이 비상용성 블렌드인 폴리프로필렌과 니트릴고무 블렌드의 모폴로지와 기계적물성에 미치는 영향을 블렌드의 조성 및 cPE의 첨가량을 변화시켜가며 조사하였다. 염소화폴리에틸렌을 첨가함에 따라 분산상의 크기가 감소되며 분산상 크기가 보다 균일하게 됨을 알 수 있었으며, 블렌드의 인장강도, 인열강도, 파단신율이 크게 증가됨을 알 수 있었다. 모폴로지와 기계적물성의 변화로부터 상용화제의 적정 첨가량은 니트릴고무에 대해 5-10 wt% 인 것으로 판단되었다.

  • A series of conveyer rubber belts has been made by blending natural rubber(NR), styrene butadiene rubber(SBR), chloroprene rubber(CR) and additives on nylon cords, and their respective flammability has been investigated. It has been observed that: 1. By adding an antiflame agent to the belt, in addition to 70% chlorinated paraffine and antimony oxide($Sb_{2}O_{3}$), the inflammability is improved remarkably to O - 2 seconds due to the synergistic effect, while a sample without antiflame B fails to pass the KS M 6678 test. 2. Physical properties, such as tensile strength, elongation at break and adhesion strength, of the sample belts have been studies by varying ratios of NR/CR from 20 to 100, and it has been observed that the higher ratios have the better physical properties.

Influence of Chlorine Treatment on Measurement of Crosslink Density of Wiper Blade

  • Automobile wiper blades are generally treated with chlorine to lower their friction coefficient with the windshield surface. This treatment could affect the crosslink density measurement of rubber vulcanizates, a material used in windshield wipers, which would consequently alter its chemical and physical properties. Therefore, this study evaluated the influence of chlorination on crosslink density measurements of natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates using a vehicle wiper blade. A method for determining the degree of chlorination was developed where the interaction parameter between the rubber and the swelling solvent was corrected. A decrease in the rubber sample swelling ratio was observed upon chlorination, and the chlorination penetrated less than 1% of the sample thickness. The chlorinated NR was assumed to be chloroprene rubber (CR), which was used to correct the interaction parameter. The results showed the CR contributed approximately 7% to the parameter.

  • The weather resistance of five coatings systems based on alkyd, chlorinated rubber, epoxy, polyurethane and fluoropolymer were studied by natural exposure test and accelerated test. The coatings were exposed at Hanoi station with urban industry atmosphere and at Baichay station with marine atmosphere. The degradation of coatings was evaluated by gloss measurement and surface analysis by scanning electronic microscopy. The results obtained show that among coatings tested the gloss of polyurethane and fluoropolymer coatings remained highly and those of alkyd, chlorinated rubber and epoxy coatings were very low after two years of atmospheric exposure. Under accelerating conditions the gloss of fluoropolymer coatings remained highly after 80 cycles of testing. By comparison with accelerating test in UV-condensation chamber the conditions at atmospheric stations are more aggressive.

염소화 반응조건이 SBR의 표면마찰 특성에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Chlorination on the Friction Properties of SBR)

  • This study was concerned with the influence of reaction conditions on the surface friction properties of Syrene-Butadiene Rubber(SBR) sheet when it was chlorinated by chemical treatment method using the sodium hypochlorite and sulfuric acid. The results of this study were as follows. SEM photographs of chlorinated SBR surface showed uneven etching caused by the chlorination. In the FTIR spectra, the intensity of C=C peak of SBR was decreased with increasing the concentration of sodium hypochlorite. Otherwise there was no trace of C=C peak in spectrum of SBR treated with 5 wt% NaOCl with pH 0.1 for 90 seconds. EDX spectra showed that relative content of chlorine of SBR was increased with increasing the amount of sodium hypochlorite, and also affected with pH condition of acid solution. Friction angle and friction coefficient of SBR were influenced with concentration of sodium hypochlorite, but were not with pH condition of acid solution.

  • 고무는 천연 고무를 비롯하여 부타디엔 고무, 스티렌-부타디엔 고무, 니트릴-부타디엔 고무, EPDM, 염소화 고무 등 산업적 요구에 따라 발전하여 왔다. 광범위한 분야에서 고무가 사용됨에 따라 새로운 물성을 갖는 합성 고무나 개질 고무의 생산이 필요하게 되었다. 본 리뷰 논문에서는 이중 결합을 포함하는 고무의 화학적 개질을 통하여 고무의 구조를 변화시키거나, 관능기, 이종 고분자 등을 도입하는 몇 가지 방법들에 대하여 정리해 보고자 한다. 특히, 최근에 많은 응용이 시도되고 있는 리빙 라디칼 중합법에 의한 고무의 개질을 소개하고 이의 효과를 알아보고자 한다.
