  • Horse armour from Dohang-ri site had been retained its original form and all iron metal fragments of armour were very completely corroded without remaining metal core. Horse armour excavated is archaeologically very important, Also it should be maintained the original form. So, only moderate treatments such as brushing and consolidation techniques were performed. The processes for the conservation is as follows : 1) preliminary investigation, 2)removal of chlorides and corrosion products, 3) consolidation with 40% ParaloidNAD-10, 4) joining and restoration

  • Kinetic studies on the halide exchange reactions of substituted benzoyl chlorides have been carried out. The experimental result has been explained reasonably in terms of HSAB principle and EH-Theory, and addition elimination mechanism has been proposed for this type of reaction.

  • Disposal of hazardous ions in the aqueous streams is a significant industrial waste problem.. Waste streams from electronics, electroplating, and photographic industries contain metal ions such as copper, nickel, zinc, chromium(IV), cadmium, aluminum, silver, and gold, amongst others in various aqueous solutions such as sulfates, chlorides, fluorocarbons, and cyanides. Typical plating solutions having similar compositions are listed in Table 1. Spent process streams in catalyst manufacturing facilities also contain precious metals such as Ag, Pt, and Pd. Developing an effective recovery process of these metal ions for reuse is important.

  • Efficient synthesis of ${\alpha}$-chloroenones bearing ${\beta}$-carbonates or ${\beta}$-carbamates was achieved by rhodium(II)-catalyzed reaction of cyclic diazodicarbonyl compounds with a variety of chloroformates or carbamyl chlorides in good yields. These reactions provided a useful and rapid route to ${\beta}$-substituted ${\alpha}$-haloenones.

  • Symmetrical diaryl ${\alpha}-diketones$ were synthesized in moderately good yields through the palladium catalyzed reaction of aryl iodides with carbon monoxide. The reaction was tolerant of a wide variety of fuctionalities($OCH_3,\;CH_3,\;NO_2,\;OH,\;COOH$) on the aryl iodide. On the other hand, the similar reaction of aryl bromides or chlorides with carbon monoxide did not proceed.

  • A series of m-, and p-substituted phenyl 2-thiophenecarboxylates and benzoates was prepared by the reaction of the corresponding acyl chlorides and phenols. Their $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR chemical shifts were analyzed using single substituent parameter (S SP) and dual substituent parameter (DSP) methods. The relative aromaticity index of thiophene was estimated to be 0.92 from the plot of the chemical shift of the carbonyl carbons of the thienoyl esters against chemical shift of the carbonyl carbons of the benzoyl esters.

  • Catecholalane (1,3,2-Benzodioxaluminole, CA) prepared from catechol and aluminum hydride in tetrahydrofuran (THF) is found to be a selective reducing agent. The systematic study in order to characterize the reducing properties of the reagent under practical conditions (THF, 0 or 25 ℃, the quantitative amount of reagent to compound) has been done. The reagent reduces aldehydes, ketones, esters and acid chlorides to the corresponding alcohols, and primary amides to the corresponding amines. Especially noteworthy is that the reagent can convert both aromatic and aliphatic nitriles to the corresponding aldehydes in very high yields.
