Ge-S and Li-Ge-S powders were synthesized via solution-based process in order to employ chalcogenide-based solid electrolyte for use in Li secondary batteries. GeCl4 and thioacetamide in combination result in Ge-S powders of which major crystalline phase becomes GeS2 where the tetragonal and orthorhombic phases coexist after heat treatment. A chemical treatment using NaOH brings about the reduction of chlorine in the powders obtained. However, the heat treatment at 300 ℃ is more effective in minimizing the chlorine content. When lithium chloride is used as the precursor of Li ions, the LiCl powders are agglomerated with an inhomogeneous distribution. When Li2S is used, the Li-Ge-S powders are distributed more uniformly and the orthorhombic GeS2 phase dominates in the powders.
Tolvaptan is a highly selective vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that regulates cyclic adenosine monophosphate levels to inhibit both epithelial cell proliferation and chloride ion excretion, two mechanisms known to induce cyst expansion in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). Tolvaptan is currently the preferred treatment of rapidly progressive disease ADPKD in adult patients; however, since cyst formation in ADPKD begins early in life, (frequently in utero), and significant disease progression with cyst expansion occurs in the first decade, tolvaptan may be advantageous as a preemptive treatment in children with ADPKD. Tolvaptan has already been used to successfully treat refractory edema or hyponatremia in children; this literature review provides insight into the biochemical basis of its action to contextualize its use in the pediatric population.
This study investigated the localized corrosion behavior of a UNS G41400 steel surface treated with manganese phosphate. The phosphate coating, primarily composed of oxygen (O), phosphorus (P), and manganese (Mn) elements, had an approximate thickness of 6 ㎛. The particles comprising the coating varied in size by several micrometers; smaller particles were mainly composed of O, P, Mn, and iron (Fe) elements, indicating incomplete formation of the manganese phosphate film. Potentiodynamic polarization curves revealed a decrease in anodic current after surface treatment and a shift in corrosion potential toward the noble direction after treatment. After immersion in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution for 96 hours, localized corrosion was observed, with some regions retaining residual phosphate film. Even though localized corrosion occurred on the treated surface, it was less severe than that on the untreated UNS G41400 steel surface. These findings suggest that manganese phosphate coating improved resistance to localized corrosion.

Objectives: This study examined the effects of 8 types of herbal prescriptions prescribed to alleviate dementia symptoms in a rat model of arterial thrombosis induced by ferric chloride ($FeCl_3$). Methods: Thirty minutes before 35% $FeCl_3$ treatment, SD rats were intraperitoneally injected with the 8 types of herbal prescriptions, respectively. We tested the effects of the herbal prescriptions on time to occlusion (TTO) in an arterial thrombosis model using a laser Doppler flow meter. In addition, thrombus weight (TW) and collagen fiber damages were evaluated in the same condition. Results: Herbal prescriptions showed the following rank-order based on their TTO: Chong-myung-tang (CMT) > modified Jangwonhan 02 (LMK02) > Toki-shakuyaku-san (TSS) ${\geq}$ Oren-gedoku-to (OGT) ${\geq}$ Yokukansan (YKS). In particular, CMT (100 mg/kg, i.p.) and LMK02 (100 mg/kg, i.p.) delayed the TTO the most ($14.83{\pm}0.98$ and $13.67{\pm}1.03$ min, respectively) compared with the vehicle group ($7.95{\pm}0.78$ min, P<0.001). In addition, CMT, LMK02, and OGT treatment ($0.63{\pm}0.01$, $0.66{\pm}0.02$ and $0.67{\pm}0.01$ mg/mm, respectively) significantly reduced thrombus weight compared with the vehicle treatment ($0.78{\pm}0.03$, P<0.001) and also alleviated collagen fiber damage (CMT; $28.40{\pm}2.22$%, LMK02; $30.79 {\pm} 4.07$%, OGT; $26.20{\pm}1.48$%) in the vessels injured by $FeCl_3$. Therefore, CMT and LMK02 showed the greatest preventive activity in rat model of arterial thrombosis induced by $FeCl_3$. Conclusions: These results provide experimental evidence for traditional use of herbal prescriptions, suggesting that CMT and LMK02 extracts could be used to prevent vascular injury and thrombosis in the early stages of dementia.

To meet the reinforced discharge standards, effect of coagulant PAC (Poly aluminium chloride, 10.4% as $Al_2O_3$) on phosphorous removal in advanced wastewater treatment process (a modified $A^2$/O). 15 mg/L of PAC determined by jar-test was added to influent of settling basin in a modified $A^2$/O consists of anaerobic, anoxic, and oxic chamber which contains Bio-clod and porous polyurethane media. Performance of PAC was tested by supernatant after settling. The removal efficiencies of BOD, COD, TP (total phosphorus) and SP (soluble phosphorus) on biological process with PAC were 96.1%, 88.8%, 97.0% and 98.6%, compared with those on biological process without PAC were 95.4%, 72.4%, 71.6% and 59.5% respectively. 18.4% of TP and 39.1% of SP removal efficiency was increased, although increase of BOD and COD removal rate was not significant. Only PAC addition to influent of settling basin in $A^2O$ process can help total phosphorus removal to 0.13 mg/L with following discharge standard.

Electron beam treatment was applied for improving dissolution of cellulose with ionic liquids. Two ionic liquids, 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Amim]Cl]: AC) and 1,3-dimethylimidazolium methylphosphite ([Dmim][$(MeO)(H)PO_2$]: Me) were used for this experiment. Treatment with electron beams up to dose of 400 kGy resulted in the increase of hot water extract and alkali extract of cotton pulp and the great reduction in the molecular weight of cellulose. For the dissolution of cotton pulp with two ionic liquids, the electron beam treated samples showed faster dissolution. The dissolved cellulose with Me ionic liquid were regenerated with acetonitrile and the structure of regenerated cellulose showed distinct difference depending on the electron beam treatment. Those results provide the electron beam pre-treatment could be applied as an energy efficient and environmentally benign method to increase the dissolution of cellulose with ionic liquids.

This study was aimed at investigating effluent water quality and proposing reuse possibilities for 12 sewage treatment plants discharged more than $5,000m^3/day$ in order to recycle the sewage treatment plant effluent of Jeollabuk-do effectively. Additionally, a laboratory scale test for reprocessing water discharge was performed. Categories of reclaimed sewage water reuse were divided into 7 topics and analyzed a total of 28 items including 16 heavy metals based on water quality standard. As a results, color, BOD, TN, chloride and Electrical Conductivity (EC) exceeded reused water quality standard. In particular, color and TN exceeded in 8 and 5 sewage treatment plants, respectively. The value of chloride and EC were high in sewage treatment plants including the food and industrial wastewater. At 4 sewage treatment plants were possible to reuse without re-treatment. The laboratory scale test was conducted to SandFilter (SF)-Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)-MicroFiltraion (MF)-Reverse Osmosis (RO). Both the removal efficiencies and economic feasibility of total E. coli., color and Suspended Solid (SS) suited in case using the SF-GAC treatment method. The removal of chloride and EC had little effect in the case of SF-GAC-MF system, but RO showed over 90% of removal efficiency. After using SF-GAC process only, the concentration of $UV_{254}$ decreased sharply from 0.3651 /cm to 0.0306 /cm and it showed over 92% of removal efficiency rate. In conclusion, for the effective reuse of sewage discharged water, water quality and the surrounding terrain of treatment plants should be all taken into account. If it needed for the reprocessing, both the selection for treatment and economic combination treatment methods will have to be considered.
N-Substituted anilines react with triethanolamine at 180℃ in the presence of a catalytic amount of tris(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium(Ⅱ) chloride to give the corresponding 1-substituted indoles in good to high yields. Similar treatment of the anilines with N-benzyldiethanolamine or triisopropanolamine in place of triethanolamine also affords the indoles in good yields. An intermolecular alkyl group transfer between anilines and alkanolamines is assumed to be the key step of these reactions.
The removal efficiency of herbicide glyphosate in a drinking water treatment system was investigated. Four major processes of a drinking water treatment system were selected and experiments were performed separately including; treatments by sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), a sedimentation process by PAC (polyaluminum chloride), ozonation and a GAC (granular activated carbon) treatment. In the sodium hypochlorite experiment, about 50% of the glyphosate was removed by 2 mg/L of hypochlorite and more than 90% was eliminated when 5 mg/L of NaOCl was applied. Also, AMPA, the main metabolite of glyphosate, was treated with hypochlorite. More than 30% of the AMPA was removed by 2 mg/L of hypochlorite and 50% by 5 mg/L. In the PAC experiment, it was determined that more than 60% could be removed. Further experiments were performed and the results indicated that the removed amount was dependent upon the amount of soil and upon the properties of the soil especially that of clay minerals. Ozonation could oxidize glyphosate to its byproducts at about a level of 50%. In contrast, when 1 mg/L of glyphosate was treated with GAC, the amount removed was negligible. The results of this experiment were conclusive. We confirmed that drinking water, which has been contaminated with water polluted with glyphosate can be effectively purified by the application of the drinking water treatment processes currently used.

Electrochemical techniques were used to study the surface treatment for improving the pitting corrosion resistance of 304L stainless steel by inhibitors in chloride medium. Sodium molybdate (in concentration range : 0.005-80 g/l) , sodium nitrite (in concentration range : 0.001-50 g/l) and their mixture were used for this study. It was found that, molybdate and nitrite were good passivators for 304L stainless steel, but molybdate was not able to prohibit the pitting ; nitrite prevented pitting corrosion of 304L stainless steel only at the concentration more than 25 g/l. The relationship between pitting potentials and concentrations of inhibitors in the logarithm expression obeyed the linear function. It was found that the surface treatment by mixture of two inhibitors enables stainless steel to have increased the corrosion resistance , the pitting corrosion of 304L stainless steel was completely prohibited by the mixtures of molybdate and nitrite in ratio min, with $m\;\geq\;3\;and\;n\;\geq\;10$. The interesting cases on electrochemical measurement of threshold of inhibitors concentration combination for optimum surface treatment were described.
