Water analyses were conducted on 1,525 underground water laid in the western district of Korea's South Gyeongsang Province, from January 2007 until July 2010, according to sections, factors, fountainheads and inter-factor correlativities. The following are the results. 1. As a result of local incongruity rate, 18.2% in inland areas, coastal areas and 24.5% showed a high value comparatively. Costal areas showed high incongruity rate. 2. As a result of local incongruity rate, they were found that the total colony count and general bactria 39.9%, 42.6% showed a high in costal areas. 3. As a result of local factorial inspection, it was found that the turbidity content counted up to 0 to 0.2 NTU in 59.4% in inland areas, 60.2% in costal areas of sections, and in other 12.6%, 14.0%, it exceeded 0.5 NTU. As a result of local factorial inspection, it was found that the nitrate-nitrogen content counted up to 0 to 10 mg/L in 98.2% in inland areas, 97.6% in costal areas of sections, and in other 1.8%, 2.4%, it exceeded 10 mg/L. As regards chloride in coastal areas, water quality standards for chloride 250 mg/L exceeds the 1.4% higher then in inland areas. 4. Hardness in inland areas was closely correlated with total solids (r = 0.910), sulfate ion (r = 0.819). Also, total solids and boron (r = 0.600) showed high correlativities. On the other hand hardness in coastal areas was closely correlated with total solids (r = 0.919), chloride (r = 0.829). Also sulfate ion was closely correlated with hardness (r = 0.599), turbidity and aluminum (r = 0.635) showed high correlativities in this research.

In the sewage structures and wastewater facilities, concrete is exposed to hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$) which acts as an acid material in a solution, and a strongly acidic sulfate ion ($SO{_4}^{-2}$) is generated by a sulfuric bacteria. Hence, a degradation of concrete with biochemical corrosion would be accelerated. Finally, durability of concrete and concrete structures may be greatly reduced. In this study, in order to remove the hydrogen sulfide which is used by the sulfuric bacteria organic-biologically, the antibiotic metal and metallic salt powders were mixed to concrete, and a suppressing performance of the sulfate ion was assessed. For the sulfuric acid bacteria, a comparative evaluation of antimicrobial performance on neutralized concrete specimens were carried out, also by a rapid chloride penetration test, chloride penetration depths and diffusion coefficients were measured for antibiotic concrete in accordance with the amount of metal and metallic salt-based antibacterial agents. Eventually, by an observation of the biochemical state of the surface of concrete specimens exposed outdoors, the performance and applicability of antibiotic concrete were confirmed.

Nitrite-type hydrocalumite (calumite) is a material that can adsorb the chloride ions ($Cl^-$)that cause the corrosion of reinforcing bars and liberate the nitrite ions ($NO_2{^-}$) that inhibit corrosion in reinforced concrete, and can provide a self-corrosion inhibition function to the reinforced concrete. In this study, VA/E/MMA-modified mortars with calumite were prepared with various calumite contents and polymer binder-ratios, and tested for corrosion inhibition, chloride ion penetration, carbonation and drying shrinkage. As a result, regardless of polymer-binder ratio, the replacement of ordinary Portland cement with hydrocalumite has a marked effect on the corrosion inhibiting property of the polymer-modified mortars. However, chloride ion penetration and carbonation depths are somewhat increased with higher calumite content, but can be remarkably decreased depending on the polymer-binder ratios. The 28-d drying shrinkage shows a tendency to increase with the polymer-binder ratio and calumite content. VA/E/MMA-Modified mortars with 10 % calumite did not satisfy KS requirements. Accordingly, a calumite content of 5 % is recommended for the VA/E/MMA-modified mortars with calumite.
This study investigates the fresh state characteristics, strength, chloride ion penetration resistance and freeze-thaw resistance of the suggested high strength-high durability cement concrete pavement. The required workability and air content could be achieved by using an appropriate admixtures. However its dosage should be carefully determined through field trial batches. Compressive strength increased with the increased cement content and, in particular, high cement volume concrete continuously developed strength up to 90 days. No clear relationship, however, existed between flexural strength and cement content. Chloride penetration resistance seemed as a function of curing age rather than the cement content. Freeze-thaw resistance test was conducted using two different coolants, tap water and 4% NaCl solution. When the tap water was used no severe damage was observed up to 300 cycles regardless the air content. Under 4% NaCl solution, specimens of 326kg/$m^3$ cement content showed severe damage with surface scaling. Based on the experimental investigations herein, it is highly recommended that the cement content be greater than 400kg/$m^3$ for strength-high durability cement concrete pavement structures.

Control if Sediment is very important in prawn farm due to the eruption of toxic materials such as unionized $H_{2}S,\;NH_{3}\;and\;NO_3$. In this study, column test was conducted with filter media such as activated carbon, zeolite, oyster shell and iron chloride to evaluate the reduction of toxicity from sediment. ammonia-N($NH_3$) was effectively removed by Zeolite and oyster shell. It was indicated that ammonium ion($NH_4^+$) was removed by ion exchange of zeolite. And the ammonia in the column of oyster shell was existed as the form of $NH_4^+$, which is not toxic for prawn because oyster shell was stably kept at $8{\sim}9g$ of pH. Therefore, some of ammonia($NH_4^+$) was removed by oyster shell. Hydrogen sulfide and COD were effectively removed by adsorption of activated carbon and a partial removal of hydrogen sulfide was accomplished by Oyster shell. Phosphorous was removed by activated carbon, oyster shell and iron chloride. In prawn farm, the concentration of ammonia was increased with increase of pH by algae photosynthesis in the column of activated carbon, zeolite and iron chloride, but it was revealed that pH was stably kept in the column of oyster shell.

The set accelerator used for shotcrete at high pH environment often causes the dusting problem in practice. In this research, a slurry-type set accelerator was developed to avoid this problem and its effectiveness was investigated by applying it to shotcrete mortars. Set time, stiffening, compressive strength, and chloride ion penetration resistance were examined with different amounts of slag, used as partial replacement of cement. According to the experimental results, it was found that the earlier responses such as set time, stiffening, and 1-day compressive strength were probably affected by the amount of ettringite, formulated by the hydration between C12A7 and calcium sulfate polymorphs present in blast furnace slag. Whereas, it is believed that the result of compressive strength after 3 days was attributed to the hydration of tricalcium silicates. As for the results of a chloride ion penetration test, the partial replacement of cement with slag significantly reduced the total charge passed through the shotcrete mortar.
Co-application of organic coating and cathodic protection has not provided enough durability to low-alloyed steels inseawater ballast tank (SBT) environments. An attempt has made to study the effect of alloy elements (Al, Cr, Cu, Mo, Ni, Si, W) on general and localized corrosion resistance of steels as basic research to develop new low-allowed steels resistive to corrosion in SBT environments. For this study, we measured the corrosion rate by the weigh loss method after periodic immersion in synthetic seawater at $60^{\circ}C$, evaluated the localized corrosion resistance by an immersion test in concentrated chloride solution with the critical pH depending on the alloy element (Fe, Cr, Al, Ni), determined the permeability of chloride ion across the rust layer by measuring the membrane potential, and finally, we analyzed the rust layer by EPMA mapping and compared the result with the E-pH diagram calculated in the study. The immersion test of up to 55 days in the synthetic seawater showed that chromium, aluminium, and nickel are beneficial but the other elements are detrimental to corrosion resistance. Among the beneficial elements, chromium and aluminium effectively decreased the corrosion rate of the steels during the initial immersion, while nickel effectively decreased the corrosion rate in a longer than 30-day immersion. The low corrosion rate of Cr- or Al-alloyed steel in the initial period was due to the formation of $Cr_2FeO_4$ or $Al_2FeO_4$, respectively -the predicted oxide in the E-pH diagram- which is known as a more protective oxide than $Fe_3O_4$. The increased corrosion rate of Cr-alloyed steels with alonger than 30-day exposure was due to low localized corrosion resistance, which is explained bythe effect of the alloying element on a critical pH. In the meantime, the low corrosion rate of Ni-alloyed steel with a longer than 30-day exposure wasdue to an Ni enriched layer containing $Fe_2NiO_4$, the predicted oxide in the E-pH diagram. Finally, the measurement of the membrane potential depending on the alloying element showed that a lower permeability of chloride ion does not always result in higher corrosion resistance in seawater.

Various seeding materials for cloud seeding are being used, and sodium chloride powder is one of them, which is commonly used. This study analyzed the experimental results of multi-aircraft cloud seeding in connection with Republic of Korea Air Force (CN235) and KMA/NIMS(Korea Meteorological Administration/National Institute of Meteorological Sciences) Atmospheric Research Aircraft. Powdered sodium chloride was used in CN235 for the first time in South Korea. The analysis of the cloud particle size distributions and radar reflectivity before and after cloud seeding showed that the growth efficiency of powdery seeding material in the cloud is slightly higher than that of hygroscopic flare composition in the distribution of number concentrations by cloud aerosol particle diameter (10 ~ 1000 ㎛). Considering the radar reflectivity, precipitation, and numerical model simulation, the enhanced precipitation due to cloud seeding was calculated to be a maximum of 3.7 mm for 6 hours. The simulated seeding effect area was about 3,695 km2, which corresponds to 13,634,550 tons of water. In the precipitation component analysis, as a direct verification method, the ion equivalent concentrations (Na+, Cl-, Ca2+) of the seeding material at the Bukgangneung site were found to be about 1000 times higher than those of other non-affected areas between about 1 and 2 hours after seeding. This study suggests the possibility of continuous multi-aircraft cloud seeding experiments to accumulate and increase the amount of precipitation enhancement.
Corrosion behavior of steel reinforcements embedded in concrete containing various chloride ion concentrations was investigated by an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS). Chloride ions were introduced into the concrete by dissolving the NaCl and $CaCl_2$ in the water with a given weight of cement. Based on the impedance parameters measured by EIS, more complete equivalent circuit, a schematic physical model, and the mechanism of concrete reinforcement corrosion were suggested. By the implement of experimental impedance parameters obtained from the model with corresponding CNLS-fitting data, the corrosion rate of steel reinforcement with chloride ions could be predicted.

Pollution of chloride ion-reinforced concrete can trigger active corrosion processes that reduce the useful life of structures. Multifunctional materials used as a counter-electrode by electrochemical techniques have been used to rehabilitate contaminated concrete. Cement-based pastes added to carbonaceous material, fibers or dust, have been used as an anode in the non-destructive Electrochemical Chloride Extraction (ECE) technique. We studied the performance of the addition of Carbon Fiber (CF) in a cement-graphite powder base paste used as an anode in ECE of concretes contaminated with chlorides from the preparation of the mixture. The experimental parameters were: 2.3% of free chlorides, 21 days of ECE application, a Carbon Fiber Volume Fraction (CFVF) of 0.1, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9%, a lithium borate alkaline electrolyte, a current density of $4.0A/m^2$ and a cement/graphite ratio of 1.0 for the paste. The efficiency of the ECE in the traditional technique using metal mesh as an anode was 77.6% and for CFVF of 0.9% it was 90.4%, with a tendency to increase to higher percentages of the CFVF in the conductive cement-graphite paste, keeping the pH stable and achieving a homogeneous ECE in the mass of the concrete contaminated with chlorides.
