The 2-(dimethylaminomethyl)thiophene (dmamt) complexes with copper(II) chloride and bromide were prepared and characterized by optical, EPR, XPS spectroscopies and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The low-energy absorption band above 850 nm and the relatively small EPR hyperfine coupling constant ($A_{//}{\simeq}$125 G) indicate the pseudotetrahedral site symmetry around copper(II) ion both in Cu(dmamt)$Cl_2$ and Cu(dmamt)$Br_2$ complexes. The higher satellite to main peak intensity of Cu $2P_{3/2}$ core electron binding energy in XPS spectra also supports the pseudotetrahedral geometry around the copper(II) ions having $CuNSX_2$ chromophores. The distortion from square-planar to pseudotetrahedral symmetry is likely to arise from the steric hindrance of the bulky dmamt ligand in the complex. Magnetic susceptibility study shows that these compounds follow Curie-Weiss law in the temperature range of 77-300 K with positive Weiss constant exhibiting the ferromagnetic interaction between copper(II) ions in solid state.

Metallothioneins (MTs) are a go up of heavy metal-binding proteins characterized by cystein-rich low molecular weight(6000 - 10.000 Da). They plays a major role in the detoxification of heavy metals and also in scavenging of superoxide radicals. They are known to be induced by heavy metals in various organs of different species and represent a potential biomarker of aquatic heavy metal contamination. (omitted)

With the development of the bio industry, membrane chromatography with a high adsorption efficiency is emerging to replace the existing column chromatography used in the downstream processes of pharmaceuticals, food, etc. In this study, through the deacetylation reaction of two commercial cellulose acetate (CA) membranes with different pore sizes, the porous regenerated cellulose (RC) supports for membrane chromatography were obtained to attach the anion exchange ligands. The adsorptive membranes for anion exchange were prepared by attaching an anion exchange ligand ([3-(methacryloylamino) propyl] trimethylammonium chloride) containing quaternary ammonium groups on the RC supports by grafting and UV polymerization. The protein adsorption capacities of the prepared membranes were obtained through both the static binding capacity (SBC) and the dynamic adsorption capacity (DBC) measurement. As a result, the membrane chromatography with the smaller the pore size, the larger the surface area showed the highest protein adsorption capacity. Membrane chromatography which was prepared by using deacetylated commercial CA support with MAPTAC ligand (i.e., RC 0.8 + MAPTAC: 43.69 mg/ml, RC 3.0 + MAPTAC: 36.33 mg/ml) showed a higher adsorption capacity compared to commercial membrane chromatography (28.38 mg/ml).
The mercury is among the most highly bioconcentrated toxic trace metals. Many national and international agencies and organisations have targeted mercury for the possible emission control. The mercury toxicity depends on its chemical form, among which alkylmercury compounds are the most toxic. A human cervix uterus cancer cell line HeLa cells was employed to investigate the effect of the toxic heavy metal mercury (Hg) and ionizing radiation. In the in vitro comet assays for the genotoxicity in the HeLa cells, the group of Hg treatment after irradiation showed higher DNA breakage than the other groups. The tail extent moment and olive tail moment of the control group were $4.88{\pm}1.00\;and\;3.50{\pm}0.52$ while the values of the only Hg treatment group were $26.90{\pm}2.67\;and\;13.16{\pm}1.82$, respectively. The tail extent moment and olive tail moment of the only 0.001, 0.005, 0.01 Hg group were $12.24{\pm}1.82,\;8.20{\pm}2.15,\;20.30{\pm}1.30,\;12.26{\pm}0.52,\;40.65{\pm}2.94\;and \;20.38{\pm}1.49$, respectively. In the case of Hg treatment after irradiation, the tail extent moment and olive tail moment of the 0.001, 0.005, 0.01 Hg group were $56.50{\pm}3.93,\;32.69{\pm}2.48,\;62.03{\pm}5.14,\;31.56{\pm}1.97,\;72.73{\pm}3.70\;and \;39.44{\pm}3.23$, respectively. The results showed that Hg induced DNA single-strand breaks or alkali labile sites as assessed by the Comet assay. It is in good agreement with the reported results. The mercury inhibits the repair of DNA. The bacterial formamidopyrimidine-DNA glycosylase (Epg protein) recognizes and removes some oxidative DNA base modifications. Enzyme inactivation by Hg (II) may therefore be due either to interactions with rysteine residues outside the metal binding domain or to very high-affinity binding of Hg (II) which readily removes Zn (II) from the zinc finger.
The values of critical micelle concentration (CMC) and counter ion binding constants (B) in a micellar state of CPC (1-hexadecylpyridinium chloride) with Brij 35 (polyoxyethylene(23) lauryl ether) in water were determined as a function of ${\alpha}_1$ (the overall mole fraction of CPC) by the use of electric conductivity method. Various thermodynamic parameters ($X_i,\;{\gamma}_i,\;C_i,\;a_{i}^{M},\;\beta,\;and\;{\Delta}H_{mix}$) were calculated and analyzed by means of the equations derived from the non-ideal mixed micellar model. And thermodynamic parameters (${\Delta}{G^o}_m,\;{\Delta}{H^o}_m,\;and\;{\Delta}{S^o}_m$) for the micellization of CPC/Brij 35 mixtures were also calculated from the temperature dependence of the CMC values. The values of ${\Delta}{G^o}_m$ are all negative, but the values of ${\Delta}{S^o}_m$ and ${\Delta}{H^o}_m$ are positive or negative, depending on the measured temperature and ${\alpha}_1$.
Sodium chloride is an important ingredient added to most of foods which contributes to flavor enhancement and food preservation but excess intake of sodium chloride may also cause various diseases such as heart diseases, osteoporosis and so on. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate the effect of monosodium glutamate (MSG) as a salty flavor enhancer on the quality and sensorial properties of the NaCl/MSG complex and actual food system. For characterizing the spray-dried NaCl/MSG complex, surface dimension, morphology, rheology, and saltiness intensity were estimated by increasing MSG (0-2.0%) levels at a fixed NaCl concentration (2.0%). MSG levels had no effect of the characteristics of the NaCl/MSG complex, although the addition of MSG increased the surface dimension of the NaCl/MSG complex significantly (p<0.05). Furthermore, the effect of MSG on enhancing the salty flavor was not observed in the solution of the NaCl/MSG complex. In the case of an actual food system, model meat products (pork patties) were prepared by replacing NaCl with MSG. MSG enhanced the salty flavor, thereby increasing overall acceptability of pork patties. Replacement of NaCl with MSG (<1.0%) did not result in negative sensorial properties of pork patties, although quality deterioration such as high cooking loss was found. Nevertheless, MSG had a potential application in meat product formulation as a salty flavor enhancer or a partial NaCl replacer when meat products were supplemented with binding agents.
The critical micelle concentration $(CMC^{\ast})$ and the counterion binding constant (B) in a micellar state of the mixed surfactant systems of dodecylpyridinium chloride (DPC) with dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB), tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB), and cetyldimethylethylammonium bromide (CDEAB) were determined at $25^{\circ}C$ as a function of ${\alpha}_1$ (the overall molc fraction of DPC) by the use of electric conductivity method. Various thermodynamic parameters $(X_{i},\;{\gamma}_{I},\;C_{i},\;a^{M}_{i}, \beta,\;{\Delta}H_{mix}, \;and\; {\Delta}G^{o}_{m})$ for the micellization of DPC/DTAB, DPC/TTAB, and DPC/CDEAB mixtures were calculated and analyzed for each system by means of the equations derived from the pseudophase separation model. The results show that the DPC/DTAB mixed system has the greatest deviation and the DPC/CDEAB mixed system has the smallest deviation from the ideal mixed micellar model.
$\beta$-Cyclodextrine/benzoic acid complex was prepared and reacted with cyanuric chloride (2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine). Identification of complex formation and reaction was checked by FT-IR, UV-Vis, and EDX. By reacting this material with cotton fiber, the deodourant fiber was prepared. The deodourizing property was evaluated by the concentration changes of aqueous ammonia solution after flowing ammonia gas through the column titled with deodourant fiber prepared. The deodourizing property was increased with an increase of concentration of $\beta$-cyclodextrine unit in the fiber. In the case of $\beta$-cyclodextrine/benzoic acid complex, the deodourzing property was much increased, comparing with the $\beta$-cyclodextrine only. It was considered to be the binding of aamonia gas caused by benzoic acid in the complex.
The critical micelle concentration (CMC) and the counterion binding constant (${\beta}$) at the CMC of the mixtures of Dodecylpyridinium chloride (DPC) and Tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB) have been determined from the concentration dependence of electrical conductance at various temperatures from $4^{\circ}C$ to $36^{\circ}C$. Thermodynamic parameters (${\Delta}C_p$, ${\Delta}G^o_m$, ${\Delta}H^o_m$ and ${\Delta}S^o_m$), associated with the micelle formation of DPC/TTAB mixtures, have been estimated from the temperature dependence of CMC and ${\beta}$values. The measured values of ${\Delta}C_p$ and ${\Delta}G^o_m$ are negative but the values of ${\Delta}S^o_m$ are positive in the whole measured temperature region. The values of ${\Delta}H^o_m$ are positive at low temperature region and negative at high temperature region. The results show that all of the thermodynamic parameters are dependent on temperature and mole fraction of DPC(${\alpha}_DPC$).
A new synthesis has been developed for 1-thia-4,7-diazacyclononane and the complexation behavior of a particular derivative has been explored. The pentadentate ligand 4,7-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)-l-thia-4,7-diazacyclononane ([9]$N_2SPY_2$) and its iron(Ⅱ) and manganese(Ⅱ) complexes were prepared and characterized. Magnetic moments of 5.17 and 5.90 μB respectively, indicate that the iron(Ⅱ) and manganese(Ⅱ) complexes are high spin. Charge transfer transitions (d-π*) occur for [Fe(Ⅱ)([9]$N_2SPY_2)(X)]^{n+}$at 27027, 25000, and 24390 cm-1 for X=$H_2O$, Cl-, and OH-, respectively. In acetonitrile solution, the cyclic voltammogram of the manganese(Ⅱ) complex exhibits a redox couple at 0.92 V vs. NHE while the redox potentials for [Fe(Il)([9]$N_2SPY_2)(X)]^{n+}$ are 0.70, 0.66, and 0.37 V vs. NHE for X=$H_2O$, Cl-, and OH-, respectively. The d-π* charge transfer energy and Fe(Ⅱ)/Fe(Ⅲ) redox potential for [Fe(Ⅱ)([9]$N_2SPY_2)(X)]^{n+}$ increase in the same order: $H_2O>Cl^- >OH^-$. The crystal structures of the iron(Ⅱ) and manganese(Ⅱ) complexes reveal that the metal ions are sixcoordinate, binding to four nitrogen atoms and a sulfur atom from the pentadentate ligand, as well as a chloride anion, with the chloride and sulfur atoms in cis positions. The two metals have similar coordination geometries, which are closer to trigonal prismatic than octahedral. In both iron and manganese complexes, the M-N($sp_3$) trans to Cl- is 0.07 Å longer than the one cis to Cl- , and M-N($sp^2$) trans to S is 0.05 longer than the one cis to S atom.
