Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop an educational program for the children's guardian with cochlear implants in order to provide knowledge and information about cochlear implants. Methods: The educational program was developed based on a literature review, potentially relevant website analysis, and validation by an expert group. Two out of twenty-two educational items under four domains that had item-level content validity index (CVI) greater than 0.8 by the ten experts were finally selected and used. After the children's guardian participated in this educational activity through a specially designed booklet and DVD, the effectiveness of the program was evaluated. Results: A total of 8 children's guardian participated in the program. Their knowledge levels significantly increased after participating the program (mean $15.0{\pm}3.02$ vs. $19.0{\pm}0.93$, Z= 2.371, p=.018). Satisfaction levels with the program was high, $4.1{\pm}0.87$ out of 5. Conclusion: This newly developed educational program for the children's guardian with cochlear implants is proved to be effective and can be used in nursing practice. In addition, the participants seemed to be satisfied with the program. Furthermore, this program may also improve the effects of adult with cochlear implants.

Purpose: Asthma is the most common chronic disease of childhood. It's important mother's caring for management of children with asthma. This study was to provide the evidenced data for preparing an educational program by identifying the knowledge level and educational demand about pediatric asthma of mothers of children with asthma. Method: The subjects were 91 mothers of children with asthma who admitted at 3 hospital in Busan. The data were collected through a self-reporting questionnaire from Feburary to May, 2005. The data was analyzed by SPSS 10.0 program. Results: The total mean percentage of correct answer of knowledge about pediatric asthma was 55.6% and the total mean $score{\pm}SD$ of educational demand about pediatric asthma was $4.40{\pm}0.50$. The knowledge level was statistically different by recurrence number(F=3.08, p=.049). There was not correlation between knowledge level and eucational demand. Conclusions: The mothers of children with asthma had a medium knowledge level and a high educational demand. Based on the results, mothers' knowledge is an important part of children with asthma management. Therefore nursing intervention program for mothers of children with asthma should be developed and the mothers should cope with asthma effectively.
This study was to provide date for developing a effective educational program which would be helpful for teachers to understand children's daily activities more properly. From two kindergartens, 20 children were observed for 3 consecutive hours. The observer followed the target child, gathering data during 30-second "windows". This observation lasted for three hours per day and each child was observed 60 times. The proportion of major activities such as education, play, work, and conversation in children's daily activities was compared. Results showed that children of Waldorf program were more exposed to and engaged in play than children of Theme-based program, whereas children of theme-based program were exposed to and engaged in academic activities than those of Waldorf program.
Green consumption refers to a variety of activities including use and purchase of eco-friendly products and services and disposing of products in an eco-friendly manner. The goal of this research was to evaluate the effects of a green consumption education and awareness program offered to young children in a university-sponsored daycare. The education and awareness program was designed to improve young children's knowledge and behaviors toward the environment through green consumption education. The program was presented to 22 5-year old children in 15-20 minutes sessions, once a week for 4 weeks. Evaluation of the program was carried out through individual interviews with the children and their mothers. Upon the completion of the green consumption education program, there were noticeable changes in children's knowledge and behavior toward the environment. Mothers of participating children reported that children's environmental behaviors changed significantly, displaying a stronger green consumption attitude. This study suggests that environmental educational program during early childhood educational is an effective way of improving children's perceptions of environmental and conservation practices.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of parental media use, parents' educational needs regarding media use, and parents' media guidance for children on the children's media use. Methods: The participants were 161 parents of elementary school children in the 1st and 4th grades. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires, and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 19.0 IBM program. Results: The average times for watching television and using the internet in the children were 11.44 hours and 5.89 hours per week, respectively. Children's time watching television was influenced by parents' time watching television, children's gender (girl), and parents' educational needs. Children's television dependency was influenced by parents' educational needs, parents' time watching television, and parents' age (under 36 years). Time using the internet and internet dependency in the children were influenced by parents' educational needs, family monthly income (under 3 million won), and parents' guidance for children on watching television. Conclusion: The findings indicate that elementary school children's media use is influenced by parental media use, parents' educational needs, and parents' media guidance for children. Therefore parental factors should be considered in developing approaches to provide education programs to prevent media overuse in children.
Purpose: This study was done to develop an educational needs scale for cell phone use, to investigate the scope of cell phone use in children and their parents' perception, and to compare the educational needs for children and parents regarding children's cell phone use. Method: The participants were 152 children and 152 parents in two cities. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires, and analyzed using the SPSS program. Result: Ten items regarding the educational needs for cell phone use were selected for the final scale, and categorized into 2 factors (cell phone use and cell phone addiction). The scope of cell phone use in children is different from their parents' perception. The educational needs of parents were higher than those of children. Conclusion: The findings indicate that the scope of cell phone use and the educational needs of children were different from their parents' perception and needs. Further research would be required to identify the educational needs for children and parents regarding children's cell phone use and related factors. In addition, development and effects of the educational programs for cell phone use in children and parents will be required.
This study developed career education program applying cooperative learning structures (Kagan, 1993, 1995, 1997), and tested its effect on elementary school children's career development. Sixth grade students of 2 classes were divided into experimental and control group, and 14 sessions of the program were applied to the experimental group for 8 weeks. Career development test(Lee, 2005) were performed before and after the program. Students in both groups were retested 3 months after the post-test to test continuing effects of the program. Score tendencies and their differences between experimental group and control group of children in 3 career development areas - self-awareness, educational and occupational exploration, and career planing - were tested and the results are as follows: development of 3 areas of self-awareness, educational and occupational exploration, and career planing were consistently increasing along the experimental sequence in experimental group, while the development of 3 areas showed no changes or declining tendencies in control group. Self-awareness and educational and occupational exploration did not show the statistically significant differences between the groups. Meanwhile, the career plaining showed statistically significant difference between the groups in post-test, meaning that the career education program with cooperative structure has positive effects on the career planing in 6th grade students.
