Rhodamine derivative synthesis: dual-detectable chemosensor

  • Rhodamine chromophore/fluorophore have been attracted to many researchers due to its excellent photophysical properties. In this study, we have designed and synthesized a strong emissive fluorescent dye chemosensor for toxic elements. A rhodamine-based sensor was prepared by incorporation the rhodamine fluorophore and several functional host groups with high affinity to hazardous metal and anion. This sensor shows a high selectivity and an excellent sensitivity and is a dual-responsive colorimetric and fluorescent metal/anion-specific sensor. In addition, the 1:1 binding mode was proposed based on Job's plot method. Finally, computational calculation was simulated and calculated to approach for HOMO/LUMO of this dye chemosensor.

Selective Chemosensing of Hg2+ Ions by Diazatetrathia-crown Ether Having Nitrobenzoxadiazolyl Subunits

  • A diazatetrathia crown ether derivative that has two appended nitrobenzoxadiazolyl moieties showed selective OFF-ON type fluoroionophoric signaling properties toward Hg2+ ions over other transition metal ions. The compound also exhibited a pronounced chromogenic behavior toward Hg2+ ions by changing the solution color from light orange to yellow, which can easily be detected with naked-eye. The detection limit for the analysis of Hg2+ ions in 90% aqueous acetonitrile was found to be 4.8??10-6 M, which suggests that the compound may be used as a chemosensor for analyzing sub-millimolar Hg2+ ions in aqueous environments.

  • A new chemosensor based on rhodamine B (1) for $Hg^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ was synthesized by one-step condensation reaction of rhodamine B hydrazide and Azo dye. Studying for its fluorogenic and colorimetric behaviors towards various metal ions, extreme sensitivity and selectivity were achieved by the detection of $Hg^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ over other commonly coexistent metal ions, which were accompanied by ring opening of a rhodamine spirocycle framework. In acetonitrile, the presence of $Hg^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ induces the formation of a Dye 1-ion complex, which was deduced by spectroscopy.

Benzothiazole-Based Semisquaraine as Colorimetric Chemosensor for $Hg^{2+}$

  • A highly selective colorimetric chemosensor for $Hg^{2+}$ based on the semisquaraine(BSQ) containing benzothiazole moiety was investigated. BSQ showed color change only with $Hg^{2+}$ but it showed no significant changes upon addition of other metal ions such as $Ca^{2+},\;Pb^{2+},\;Al^{3+},\;Ce^{2+},\;Ba^{2+},\;Ni^{2+},\;Cd^{2+},\;Zn^{2+},\;and\;Mg^{2+}$. $Hg^{2+}$ ions coordinated to the BSQ forming 1:1 complex. The experimental data and conclusions are rationalized by $DMol^3$ calculation results.
