  • LGP (light guide plate) of LCD-BLU (Liquid Crystal Display - Back Light Unit) is one of the major components which affects the product quality of LCD. In the present study, the optical patterns of LGP(2.2") are manufactured by three different methods, namely, laser ablation, chemical etching and LiGA - reflow, respectively. The pattern surface images and roughness of mold and product were compared to check the optical characteristics. From the results of measurement the optical patterns fabricated by LiGA - reflow method showed the best geometric structure as intended in design and the lowest roughness among those.

  • The photoisomerization of functional polyimide was investigated in the various temperatures and UV(360nm) & visible(450nm) light irradiation. The absorption spectrum of azobenzene containing polyamic acid in a mixture of N,N-dimethylacetamide and benzene(1:1 by volume) solution was induced photoisomerization by UV and visible light irradiation. The absorption spectrum of LB films are also induced photoisomerization by UV and visible light irradiation.

  • In this study, a mono-chelated compound as novel blue light emitting material, $BPh_2$(pbi) (pbi = 2-(2-Pyridyl)benzimidazole) was synthesized Organic light emitting Diodes (OLEDs), which has a ITO/NPB(40 nm)/Boron(30 nm)/$Alq_3$(1 nm)/Liq(3 nm)/Al(150 nm) structure, has been fabricated. The maximum brightness of the device is up to about 900 cd/$m^2$ and 0.54 cd/A at 11.5 V. The EL peaks and CIE coordinates of our OLEDs is 457 nm and (0.26, 0.29), respectively.

  • For the purpose of quantifying the staining rendency of light-cured glass ionomer cements and chemical-cured glass ionomer cements, Glass Ionomer specimens were stained with methylene blue and analyzed quantitatively with spectrophotometry. The data was processed and the result was as follows : 1. Chemical-cured glass ionomer cement showed higher color stability than light-cured glass ionomer cement with significance.(P<0.001) 2. In light-cured glass ionomer cement groups, Vitremer showed higher dye concentration of methylene blue than Fuji II LC. 3. In chemical-cured glass ionomer cement groups, Fuji II showed higher dye concentration of methylene blue than Ketac-fil.

  • Blue light emitting electroluminescence(EL) diodes were fabricated utilizing Coronene and some organic materials. Coronene showed photoluminescence(PL) peak at 450nm in solution with high quantum efficiency. Multi layer system was applied to fabricate EL diode utilizing Coronene. The device showed didode-like applied voltage-current relationship. And blue light emitting was observed. The decay time of device was in a scale of some seconds. The trun-on voltage of device was about 9 V.

  • This study investigated the photochromic properties and characterization of acetyl-substituted diarylethene (DAMBTF6)-doped fluoroacrylates media for holographic storage. For the rewritable holographic recording media, we prepared photochromic polymer films using an acrylate matrix by simple photocuring methods. Switching light sources from a visible (532 nm) to an ultraviolet (365 nm) produced transparent films that changed from pale yellow to red. Holographic recording was performed on the photochromic films by two interfering collimated plane wave beams. Excitation with a visible or ultraviolet light completely erased the records, and the film was rewritable either by 532 nm laser or by 325 nm laser within 2 seconds. Images were recorded onto a pixelated spatial light modulator with rectangular pixel apertures and reconstructed on the photochromic films to show recovery of the original images with high resolution.

  • We have derived the translation diffusion coefficient and the intrinsic viscosity formula adopting the Kholodenko's theory using 3+1 dimensional Dirac propagator in the Kirkwood and Riseman scheme. We also performed static light scattering experiments and intrinsic viscosity measurement of dilute solutions of polyimides with different rigidities. In the framework of Kholodenko's theory, we can easily measure the persistence length of polyimide. We prepared five different polyamic acids and polyimides with different degree of imidization by controlling imidization temperatures. From experimental results, we obtained molecular weights and persistence lengths according to the Kholodenko's plot. The molecular weight and the intrinsic viscosity decreased and then increased with the imidization temperature but the persistence length increased monotonically and then leveled off. The persistence lengths calculated from intrinsic viscosities showed very good agreement with those from light scattering experiments.

  • Photo-excited $TiO_2$ surface has a strong ability to induce various chemical reactions. Our study concentrates mainly on the utilisation of light energy to induce reactive radicals for environmental protection application. For instance, we have successfully used TiO$_2$ to break down foul smelling substances in air. In order to retain and separate the $TiO_2$ catalyst from the reactants and products, $TiO_2$ was immobilised by fixing onto various substrates. $TiO_2$ catalyst coated onto glass, wall paper and painted panel was found to show significant deodorising effect. The deodorising effect continues as long as$TiO_2$ is exposed to light irradiation.

  • The propagation of light radiation in a turbid medium is an important problem that confronts dosimetry of therapeutic laser delivery and the development of diagnostic spectroscopy. Scattered light is measured as a function of the position(distance r, depth z) between the axis of the incident beam and the detection spot. Turbid sample yields a very forward-directed scattering pattern at short range of position from source to detector, whereas the thicker samples greatly attenuated the on-axis intensity at long range of position. The portions of scattered light reflected from or transmitted throughphantom depend upon internal reflectance and absorption properties of the phantom. Monte Carlo simulation method for modelling light transport in tissue is applied. It uses the photon is moved a distance where it may be scattered, absorbed, propagated, internally reflected, or transmitted out of tissue. The photon is repeatedly moved until it either escape from or is absorbed by the phantom. In order to obtain an optimum therapeutic ratio in phantom material, optimum control the light energy fluence rate is essential. This study is to discuss the physical mechanisms determining the actual light dose in phantom. Permitting a qualitative understanding of the measurements. It may also aid in designing the best model for laser medicine and application of medical engineering.
