  • The solar neighbourhood is the starting point for studies of the structure and evolution of the Galactic disk. Yet, our knowledge of the relative frequencies, distances, ages, chemical abundances, velocities, and birthplaces of the nearby stars is severely incomplete. We have determined complete, homogeneous, and precise such data for a kinematically unbiased sample of $\~$12,000 local F and G dwarf stars and describe a first, significant result from it.

  • Space is full of energetic events emitting high-energy radiations which may be fatal to all living things unless protected. The present paper briefly describes high-energy photons and particles incident on Earth surface and their common properties toward living things. Role of radiation played in evolution of life and earth environment will be presented.

  • In order to investigate the origin of multiple stellar populations in the halo and bulge of the Milky Way, we have constructed chemical evolution models for the low-mass proto-Galactic subsystems such as globular clusters (GCs). Unlike previous studies, we assume that supernova blast waves undergo blowout without expelling the pre-enriched gas, while relatively slow winds of massive stars, together with the winds and ejecta from low and intermediate mass asymptotic giant branch stars, are all locally retained in these less massive systems. We first applied these models to investigate the origin of super-helium-rich red clump stars in the metal-rich bulge as recently suggested by Lee et al. (2015). We find that chemical enrichments by the winds of massive stars can naturally reproduce the required helium enhancement (dY/dZ = 6) for the second generation stars. Disruption of these "building blocks" in a hierarchical merging paradigm would have provided helium enhanced stars to the bulge field. Interestingly, we also find that the observed Na-O anticorrelation in metal-poor GCs can be reproduced, when multiple episodes of starbursts are allowed to continue in these subsystems. Specific star formation history with decreasing time intervals between the stellar generations, however, is required to obtain this result, as would be expected from the orbital evolution of these subsystems in a proto-Galaxy. The "mass budget problem" is also much alleviated by our models without ad-hoc assumptions on star formation efficiency and initial mass function.

We find that the observed Na-O anti-correlations in metal-poor GCs can be reproduced when multiple episodes of starbursts are allowed to continue in these subsystems. A specific form of star formation history with decreasing time intervals between the stellar generations, however, is required to obtain this result, which is in good agreement with the parameters obtained from our stellar evolution models for the horizontal-branch. The "mass budget problem" is also much alleviated by our models without ad-hoc assumptions on star formation efficiency and initial mass function. • Hydrogen is attracting much attention as a renewable energy source with high energy density and environmental friendliness. Among various hydrogen production methods, water electrolysis stands out as a clean hydrogen production technique that could lead the future of hydrogen production, as it does not emit carbon, and many studies are currently underway to realize this technology. However, the high overpotential, which increases the cost of hydrogen production, acts as a stumbling block, making the development of electrocatalysts extremely important. This paper aims to summarize and introduce recent research trends in the development of electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction through interfacial engineering, and to deeply discuss the challenges in implementing next-generation water electrolysis devices.

  • Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae have been used as host for production of recombinant proteins. It is known that S. cerevisiae has advantages such as good folding and secretion capability, and safety as host over E. coli. But S. cerevisiae has shortcomings of low expression level which is just 20% of that of E. coli. To solve this problem, directed evolution method was tried to enhance the GAP promoter strength of S. cerevisiae in this study. As result, modified GAP promoter that has increased expression level of about 360% compared to that of wild type was selected.

  • In the study, we have obtained modified cellulase with higher cellulose degradation activity by molecular evolution method. Cellobiohydrolase(CBH I ) gene of Trichorderma reerri has been used. Cellulase mutant 228-G2 was selected and the activity of cellulase mutant 228-G2 was increased by 300% compared to original CBH I The 17 among 1542bases were found to be modified with mutant 228-G2.
