Liquid crystalline (LC) poly(ethylene terephthalate-co-2(3)-chloro-1,4-phenylene terephthalate) (50/50, mole/mole) [PECPT] was synthesized and blended with polycarbonate (PC). LC properties of PECPT and thermal, morphological, and rheological behaviors of the PECPT/PC blend were studied. PECPT showed the nematic LC phase and much longer relaxation time than poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET). The apparent melt viscosity of PECPT was one third of that of FET. An abrupt torque change was observed during the blending process due to the orientation of LC domains. For the blends containing 10~30 wt% of PECPT, the complex viscosities were higher than that of PC. As PECPT content increases above 40 wt%, shear thinning was observed. The lowest complex viscosity was obtained at 40~50 wt%. Transesterification of PECPT and PC was confirmed by the selective chemical degradation of carbonate groups in PC.
We investigated thermal, rheological, morphological and mechanical properties of a binary blend of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(butylene succinate adipate) (PBSA). The blends were extruded and their molded properties were examined. DSC thermograms of blends indicated that the thermal properties of PLA did not change noticeably with the amount of PBSA, but thermogravimetric analysis showed that thermal stability of the blends was lower than that of pure PLA and PBSA. Immiscibility was checked with thermal data. The rheological properties of the blends changed remarkably with composition. The tensile strength and modulus of blends decreased with PBSA content. Interestingly, however, the impact strength of PLA/PBSA (80/20) blend was seriously increased higher than the rule of mixture. Morphology of the blends showed a typical sea and island structure of immiscible blend. The effect of the blend composition on the biodegradation was also investigated. In the early stage of the degradation test, the highest rate was observed for the blend containing $80wt\%$ PBSA.
Experiments were performed to find out the physico-chemical properties of milt, and morphological changes of cryopreserved spermatozoa in tiger puffer, Takifugu rubripes. The average number of sperm and spermatocrit in milt stripped were $9.81{\pm}0.34{\times}10^{10}/m{\ell}$ and $97.8{\pm}0.8$, respectively. While total lipid concentration from seminal fluid was higher than that from sperm, total protein concentration from sperm was higher than that from seminal fluid, Na and K concentrations in sperm and those in seminal fluid were similar each other, However, glucose from sperm and seminal fluid were not detectable. Spermatozoon of tiger puffer was consisted of head, middle Piece and tail. Size of head showing horseshoe shape was $0.65{\pm}0.10{\mu}m$ in diameter and $1.35{\pm}0.30{\mu}m$ in length. The head fully containing chromatin did not have acrosome. Mitochondrion in middle piece was $0.2{\mu}m$ in average diameter and flagellum showed 9+2 structure. A few of cryopreserved spermatozoa showed morphologically loose or swollen plasma membranes.

As part of the long-term monitoring projects on Antarctic terrestrial vegetation in relation to global climate change, a lichen floristical survey was conducted around the Korean Antarctic Station (King Sejong Station), which is located on Barton Peninsula, King George Island, in January and February of 2006. Two hundred and twenty-five lichen specimens were collected and sixty-two lichen species in 38 genera were identified by morphological characteristics, chemical constituents, TLC analysis and ITS nucleotide sequence analysis.
We synthesized dendrimers containing light switchable units such as azobenzene group at the air/water interface. Their chemical structure was verified by using NMR study and UV spectroscopy. We firstly investigated the monolayer behavior and by light irradiation using $\pi$-A isotherm at the air/water interface. As a result, the monolayer of dendrimer with azobenzene group showed the reversible photo-switching behavior by the isomerization of azobenzene group in their periphery. This suggests that optical behavior and morphological change are affected by the functional group and the symmetric chain.
The purposes of this study were to examine the effect of 35% Carbamide Peroxide(CP) bleaching agent on the changes in physical and chemical characteristics of tooth. The effect of bleaching agent on enamel was analyzed using Hardness test, SEM and EDS. The microhardness between bleached groups after bleaching showed statistically significant difference according to the paired t-test. The bleached enamel surface showed apparent morphological changes compared to the enamel, which was stored in distilled water only. The difference of the total mineral contents for the distilled water and Carbamide Peroxide did not show statistical significance. These results demonstrated that bleaching using 35% Carbamide Peroxide were adversely affects application time of experimental group and may the safety of using these agents for a short time in dentist-monitored bleaching.

The diffusional behavior of many non-solvents in glassy or semicrystalline polymers cannot be adequately described by a concentration-dependent form of Fick's law, especially when mass transfer is coupled with structural changes. Many mathematical models have been devised to interprete non-Fickian diffusion dominated by relaxation kinetics. In formulation of non-Fickian diffusion mathematics, therefore, the most important factor to consider is how relaxation effects can influence the governing constitutive equation and boundary conditions. That is, relaxation parameters can be accommodated by variable boundary conditions or a modified continuity equation, or both, depending on specific systems and conditions (Frish, 1980). Accoring to Astarita and Nicolais (1983), the model equations can be broadly categorized as continuous or discontinuous. Continuous model equations encompass phenomena where the structural change takes place gradually over the whole volume of the polymer sample (Crank, 1953; Long and Richman, 1961; Berens and Hopfenberg, 1978). On the other hand, discontinuous model equations deal with the phenomena where the morphological change appears to be abrupt (Li, 1984). Four mathematical models with different relaxation parameters were applied to fit the anomalous sorption data observed in fluoropolymers (PVDF, ECTFE). The fitted result for PVDF-benzene sorption data is shown in Fig. 1.

Cu(In,Ga)$Se_2$ (CIGS) thin films were annealed on molybdenium/sodalime glass substrates of $300{\times}300mm^2$ by rapid thermal processing (RTP) with 2-step rising-temperature times in $N_2$ ambient. Morphological property, structural characteristics and chemical composition of the precursor of CIGS thin films were influenced directly with a change of $1^{st}$-step rising-temperature time in RTP whereas there is no significant difference with the different $2^{nd}$-step rising-temperature time (final crystallization temperature). The shorter $1^{st}$-step rising-temperature time in RTP obtained the higher photovoltaic cell efficiency from 7.469% to 8.479% even though the ideal composition in CIGS thin films could not be accoplished in this study.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and storage is a critical issue for mitigating climate change. Porous aromatic Schiff base complexes have emerged as a promising class of materials for CO2 capture due to their high surface area, porosity, and stability. In this study, we investigate the potential of Schiff base complexes as an effective media for CO2 storage. We review the synthesis and characterization of porous aromatic Schiff bases materials complexes and examine their CO2 sorption properties. We find that Schiff base complexes exhibit high CO2 adsorption capacity and selectivity, making them a promising candidate for use in carbon capture applications. Moreover, we investigate the effect of various parameters such as temperature, and pressure on the CO2 adsorption properties of Schiff base complexes. The Schiff bases possessed tiny Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface areas (4.7-19.4 m2/g), typical pore diameters of 12.8-29.43 nm, and pore volumes ranging from 0.02-0.073 cm3/g. Overall, our results suggest that synthesized complexes have great potential as an effective media for CO2 storage, which could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to mitigating climate change. The study provides valuable insights into the design of novel materials for CO2 capture and storage, which is a critical area of research for achieving a sustainable future.

The controlled synthesis of inorganic materials with a specific size and morphology is an important factor in the development of new materials in many fields, such as nanoparticles, medicine, electronics, semiconductors, pharmaceutical sand cosmetics. Solution crystallization is one of the most widely used separation processes in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Calcium carbonate has attracted a great deal of attention in industry because of its numerous applications. The mean crystal size, crystal size distribution and morphology are important factors in the continuous crystallization process. In this study, the continuous crystallization of calcium carbonate by the calcium chloride process was investigated. The mean crystal size and crystal size distribution data were obtained by a particle size analyzer. The morphological imaging of the crystalswasper formed by SEM. Under steady state operation, the mean crystal size change was small, but increasing the input concentration and mixing rate increased the crystal size. In this operation, some aragonite was found, but the main crystal phase was calcite.
