To obtain precise machined surface and high productivity in machining, high speed end milling has beed studied recently. Though high speed end milling is explicitly effective for precision surface generation geometrically, tool deflection, chatter vibration and frequency characteristics of end milling system deteriorate the theoretical surface. In this study, simulation algorithm and programming method are suggested to simulate machined surface using acceleration signal in high speed end milling. This simulation is conducted by considering vibrational effect of spindle system which was not considered by other investigators. Good agreements were obtained between simulated results and experimental results.

Grinding operations is accomplished by rotating a gfinding wheel with lots of random abrasive at high speed, and its object is generally obtained the fanal workpiece surface of high quality as well as the maximization of workpiece removal rate. But, especiallysince grinding operations is related with a large amount of functional parameter, it is actually difficult to therapy that the grinding trouble occurs during the grinding process. Therefore, we trytodesign grinding trouble-shooting system utilizing the back-propagation model of neural network. The conceptual method is produced byidentifying the four parameters derived from the grinding power, and we are design te to the grinding trouble-shooting system on the basis of their data. In this paper, cognition and therapy method tothe grinding trouble which utilizes neural network based four identified models are suggested, and implementation results of computer simulation with respect to the grinding burn and chatter vibration is presented.

This paper describes an expert system on the cylindrical grinding operations in order to establish the optimum grinding conditions, which satisfy the maximum removal rates, considering the several constraints of grinding power, workpiece burn, chatter vibration and surface roughness. Specialized knowledge of the grinding operations are acquired from the actual operation database. Coefficientis in the experimental equations are obtaines through the fuzzy regression model based on the fuzzy set theory, and are stored in the actual operation database. The developed system is capable of determining the optimum grinding conditions taking into account some problems, and practical examples of implementaion are described.

Friction causes self-excited vibration, stick-slip vibration and any other friction-induced phenomena. That kinds of vibrations cause chatter and squeal. In order to predict such vibrations accurately, employing an accurate friction model is very important because a dynamic behavior of a system with friction is dominantly governed by a friction model. A Coulomb friction model is the most widely known model. Coulomb friction model is useful model to obtain analytical solutions of the system with friction and the model gives relatively good simulation result. However, defining a friction force at a stick state in simulation is hard because of the characteristic itself and a Coulomb friction model is discontinuous function between a static and a dynamic friction coefficient. Therefore, applying the Coulomb friction model to a simulation is not appropriate. In order to resolve these problems, an approximated Coulomb friction model was developed using simple and continuous function. However, an approximated Coulomb friction model cannot realize stick. Therefore, an approximated Coulomb friction model cannot describe friction phenomena accurately. In order to analyze a friction phenomenon accurately, a friction model for a simulation was proposed in this paper. A proposed friction model realizes stick and gives reasonably good results compared to results obtained by the simulation employing an approximated Coulomb friction model. Accuracy of a proposed friction model was verified by comparing experimental results.

Chattering in cutting operations are usually a cumbersome part of the manufacturing process in mechanical. Particular, machining performance such as that of the boring process is limited by cutting condition at the movable components. Among various sources of chatter vibration, detrimental point in cutting condition is found a mechanical condition on overhang. It limits cutting speed, depth, surface roughness and tool wear failure as result because the all properties are varying with the metal removal process. In this case, we have to observe the resonance frequencies of a boring bar for continuous cutting. In the established research, boring bar vibration of cutting system has been measured with the aid of accelerometer. However, the inherent parameters of internal turning operations are severely limit for the real time monitoring on accelerometers. At this point, this paper is proposed other method for real time monitoring during continuous cutting with optical fiber at the inside of boring bar. This method has been used a plastic fiber in the special jig on boring bar by based on experimental modal analysis. In this study, improvement of monitoring system on continuous internal cutting was attempted using optical fiber sensor of inside type because usually chattering is investigated experimentally measuring the variation in chip thickness. It is demonstrated that the optical fiber sensor is possibility to measure of chattering with real time in boring process.

In a high precision vertical machining center, the estimation of cutting forces is important for many reasons such as prediction of chatter vibration, surface roughness and so on, and cutting forces are difficult to predict because they are very complex and time variant. In order to predict the cutting forces of end-milling process for various cutting conditions, a mathematical model is important and this model is based on chip load, cutting geometry, and the relationship between cutting forces and chip loads. Specific cutting force coefficients of the model have been obtained as interpolation function types by averaging farces of cutting tests. In this paper, the coefficients are obtained by neural network and the results of the conventional method and those of the proposed method are compared. The results show that the neural network method gives more correct values than the function type and that in teaming stage as the omitted numbers of experimental data increases the average errors increase.

The biggest factors, which lower the machining accuracy of machine, are thermal deformation and chatter vibration. In this article, we introduce the development case of a device and technology that can automatically compensate thermal deformation errors of machine during long-time processing on the machine tool's CNC (Computerized Numerical Controller) in real time. In machine processing, the data acquisition of temperature signal in real time and auto-compensation of the machine origin of machine tools depending on thermal deformation have significant influence on improving the machining accuracy and the rate of operation. Thus, we attempts to introduce the related contents of the development we have made in this article : The development of a device that embedded the acquisition part of temperature data, linear regression to get compensation value, compensation model of neural network and a system that compensates the machine origin of machine tool automatically during manufacturing process on the CNC.

In this task, the tool dynamometer design and manufacture, and the Ansys S/W structural analysis program for tool attachment that satisfies the cutting force measurement requirements of the tool dynamometer system are used to determine the cutting force generated by metal cutting using 3-axis static structural analysis and the LabVIEW system. The cutting power in a cutting process using a milling tool for processing metals provides useful information for understanding the processing, optimization, tool status monitoring, and tool design. Thus, various methods of measuring cutting power have been proposed. The device consists of a strain-gauge-based sensor fitted to a new design force sensing element, which is then placed in a force reduction. The force-sensing element is designed as a symmetrical cross beam with four arms of a rectangular parallel line. Furthermore, data duplication is eliminated by the appropriate setting the strain gauge attachment position and the construction of a suitable Wheatstone full-bridge circuit. This device is intended for use with rotating spindles such as milling tools. Verification and machining tests were performed to determine the static and dynamic characteristics of the tool dynamometer. The verification tests were performed by analyzing the difference between strain data measured by weight and that derived by theoretical calculations. Processing test was performed by attaching a tool dynamometer to the MCT to analyze data generated by the measuring equipment during machining. To maintain high productivity and precision, the system monitors and suppresses process disturbances such as chatter vibration, imbalances, overload, collision, forced vibration due to tool failure, and excessive tool wear; additionally, a tool dynamometer with a high signal-to-noise ratio is provided.
