The effect of surface charge balance on thermodynamic stability and kinetics of refolding of firefly luciferase

  • Thermodynamic stability and refolding kinetics of firefly luciferase and three representative mutants with depletion of negative charge on a flexible loop via substitution of Glu by Arg (ER mutant) or Lys (EK mutant) as well as insertion of another Arg in ER mutants (ERR mutant) was investigated. According to thermodynamic studies, structural stability of ERR and ER mutants are enhanced compared to WT protein, whereas, these mutants become prone to aggregation at higher temperatures. Accordingly, it was concluded that enhanced structural stability of mutants depends on more compactness of folded state, whereas aggregation at higher temperatures in mutants is due to weakening of intermolecular repulsive electrostatic interactions and increase of intermolecular hydrophobic interactions. Kinetic results indicate that early events of protein folding are accelerated in mutants.

  • 반도체 및 전자기기 산업에 있어서 NVM은 아주 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있다. NVM은 디스플레이 분야에 많은 기여를 하고 있는데, 측히 AMOLED에 적용이 가능하여 온도에 따라 변하는 구동 전류, 휘도, color balance에 따른 문제를 해결하는데 큰 역할을 한다. 본 연구에서는 bottom gate 구조의 nc-Si NVM 실험을 진행하였다. P-type silicon substrate (0.01~0.02 ${\Omega}-cm$) 위에 Blocking layer 층인 SiO2 (SiH4:N2O=6:30)를 12.5nm증착하였고, Charge trap layer 층인 SiNx (SiH4:NH3=6:4)를 20 nm 증착하였다. 마지막으로 Tunneling layer 층인 SiOxNy은 N2O (2.5 sccm) 플라즈마 처리를 통해 2.5 nm 증착하였다. 이러한 ONO 구조층 위에 nc-Si을 50 nm 증착후에 Source와 Drain 층을 Al 120 nm로 evaporator 이용하여 증착하였다. 제작한 샘플을 전기적 특성인 Threshold voltage, Subthreshold swing, Field effect mobility, ON/OFF current ratio, Programming & Erasing 특성, Charge retention 특성 등을 알아보았다.

Analysis and Design of a New Topology of Soft-Switching Inverters

  • This paper proposes the power conversion mechanism of a bailer-charge-transfer zero-current-switching (CT-ZCS) circuit. The operation modes are analyzed and researched using state trajectory equations. The topology of CT-ZCS based on soft-switching inverters offers some merits such as: tracking the input reference signal dynamically, bearing load shock and short circuit, multiplying inverter N+1 redundancy parallel, coordinating power balance for easy control, and soft-switching commutation for high efficiency and large capacity. These advantages are distinctive from conventional inverter topologies and are especially demanded in AC drives: new energy generation and grid, distributed generation systems, switching power amplifier, active power filter, and reactive power compensation and so on. Prototype is manufactured and experiment results show the feasibility and dynamic voltage-tracking characteristics of the topology.

  • A charge equalization converter with parallel-connected primary windings of transformers is proposed in digest. The proposed work effectively balance the voltage among Lithium-Ion battery cells despite each battery cell has low voltage gap compared with its SOC. The principle of the proposed work is that the equalizing energy from all battery strings moves to the lowest voltage battery through the isolated dc/dc converter controlled by the corresponding bi-directional switch. In this digest, a prototype of four Lithium-Ion battery cells is optimally designed and implemented, and experimental results show that the proposed method has excellent cell balancing performance.

  • A closed loop system with a linear plant and nonlinearity in the feedback connection is analyzed for its quasi-static orbital stability by a state-space approach. First a periodic orbit is assumed to exist in the loop which is determined by describing function method for the given nonlinearity. This is possible by selecting a proper nonlinearity and a rigorous justification of the describing function method.[1-3, 18, 20]. Then by introducing residual operator, a linear perturbed model can be formulated. Using various transformations like a modified eigenstructure decomposition, periodic-averaging, charge of variables and coordinate transformation, the stability of the periodic orbit, as a solution of harmonic balance, can be shown by investigating a simple scalar function and result of linear algebra.   • A new current-balancing multi-channel LED driver is proposed in this paper. The conventional LED driver system consists of three cascaded power conversion stages and its driver stage has the same number of expensive boost converters as those of the LED channels. On the other hand, the proposed LED driver system consists of two cascaded power stages and its driver stage requires only passive devices instead of expensive boost converters. Nevertheless, all of the currents through multi-channel LEDs can be well balanced. Therefore, it features a smaller system size, improved efficiency, and lower cost. To confirm the validity of the proposed driver, its operation and performance are verified on a prototype for a 46" LCD TV.

  • A battery is the device that transforms the chemical energy into the direct-current electrical energy without a mechanical process. Unit cells are connected in series to obtain the required voltage while being connected in parallel to organize capacity for load current. Because the voltage drop down in one set of battery is faster than in two one it may result in the low efficiency of power converter with the voltage drop and cause the system shutdown. However when the system being shutdown. However when the system being driven in parallel a circular-current can be generated,. It is shown that as a result the new batteries are heated by over-charge and over-discharge and the over charge current increases rust of the positive grid and consequently shortens the lifetime of the new batteries. The difference between the new batteries and old ones is the amount of internal resistance. In this paper we can detect the unbalance current using the microprocessor and achieve the balance current by adjusting resistance of each set, The internal resistance of each set becomes constant and the current of charge and discharge comes to be balanced by inserting the external resistance into the system and calculating the change of internal resistance.

  • We have demonstrated the enhancement of the power efficiency and device lifetime of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) by introducing the ETL 1 / ETL2 (composite ETL) structure between EML and cathode and the HIL1 (composite HIL) / HIL2 between anode and HTL. Compared to reference devices retaining conventional architecture, novel OLED structure shows an outstanding EL efficiency that is 1.6 times higher (${\sim}4.5$ lm/w versus ${\sim}$ 2.71 lm/w for the reference device) and lower driving voltage $({\bigtriangleup}V>1V)$, but also a longer lifetime and smaller operating voltage drift over time. It is suggested in this work that the device performance can be improved by in-situ ohmic contact through novel electron controlled structure and reduction of charge accumulation in the interface through composite HIL

Optimization of Capacitance Balance for a Hybrid Supercapacitor Consisted of LiMn2O4/AC as a Positive and AC Negative Electrode

  • A hybrid supercapacitor is fabricated using a composite material from $LiMn_2O_4$ (LMO) and activated carbon (AC) as the positive electrode and AC as the negative electrode to form the (LMO + AC)/AC system. Volume ratio (positive : negative) of electrodes is controlled to investigate of the power and energy balance. The (LMO + AC)/AC system shows better performances than the LMO/AC system. Especially, electrochemical impedance spectra, rate charge.discharge and cycle performance testing show that the (LMO + AC)/AC system have an outstanding electrochemical performance at volume ratios of (LMO + AC)/AC = 1 : 1.7 and 1 : 2. Electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) capacitance between AC of the positive electrode and AC of the negative electrode improves power density without loss of capacitance. Stable capacitance is achieved by lowering the positive electrode resistance and balancing the energy and power densities between the positive and negative electrodes by the addition of AC to the positive electrode at high current density.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is evaluation for significance of skin meridian-acupoints energy measurement system, and is verification of principle to measure the bio-ion charge on acupoints. Methods : To check a correlation between the MEP(Meridian Energy Potential) and bio-electric charge condition, ten acupoints(left/right BL meridian : BL13, BL15, BL18, BL20, BL23) were chosen. Based on basic theory concerning the upward trend of the bio-electric charge by cupping therapy, we measured MEP change before and after 600mmHg(80kPa) Negative pressure stimulation using cupping. Results : We could identify the correlation between MEP and the condition of bio-electric charge in acupoints. Also, we checked the balance or imbalance of left/right the MEP and unusual cases. Conclusions : We confirmed significance of proposed principle and meridian energy measurement system.
