An experimental study on material characterization and mechanical properties of SMC(Sheet Molding Compounds) compression method parts was carried out. Simple compression test using grease oil as a lubricant was carried out to characterize flow stress of SMC at elevated temperatures. Two different mold temperatures, $130^{\circ}C{\;}and{\;}150^{\circ}C$ and two different mold speeds, 15, 45 mm/min were used for preparing the specimen of SMC compression molded parts. Surface roughness, tensile, and 3-point bending tests were used to determine the effects of molding temperatures and speeds on mechanical properties of compression molded SMC parts. Orientation and distribution of glass fiber in the compression molded SMC parts were also investigated by photographing the burnt flat specimen and taking SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) of cross-sectional T-specimen.
Fusion and characterization of bisphenol-A diglycidyl ether based thermosetting polymer mortars containing an epoxy resin, Fly ash and Rock sand are presented here for the Experimental study. The specimens have been prepared by means of an innovative process, in mild conditions, of commercial epoxy resin, Fly ash and Rock sand based paste. In this way, thermosetting based hybrid mortars characterized by a different content of normalized Fly ash and Rock sand by a homogeneous dispersion of the resin have been obtained. Once hardened, these new composite materials show improved compressive strength and toughness in respect to both the Fly ash and the Rock sand pastes since the Resin provides a more cohesive microstructure, with a reduced amount of micro cracks. The micro structural characterization allows pointing out the presence of an Interfacial Transition Zone similar to that observed in cement based mortars. A correlation between micro-structural features and mechanical properties of the mortar has also been studied.
SMC(Sheet Molding Compound), a thermoset composite material which consists of unsaturated polyester resin, fiberglass strands, fillers, and various chemical additives for curing agent, has been widely used in fabrication of structural components. The mechanical properties of molded SMS parts are strongly dependent on material flow results during compression molding process, while such flow in molds is affected by material characteristics. For numerical simulation of SMC molding process, estimation of material property of SMC must be accomplished. In this study, flow resistance of SMC was estimated through a simple compression test using a lubricant with grease oil under the constant strain rate condition at various temperatures and the result was compared with other material data available in the literature. The accuracy of the experimentally determined flow resistance was tested by finite element analyses of compression molding of SMC. Simulation results were compared with experimental results under the plane strain condition.
Haemocyte characterization in the surf clam, Mectra veneriformis was carried out based on morphological, cytochemical, and phagocytic characteristics. The haemocytes were classified into two cell types, granulocytes and agranulocytes on the basis of presence of cytoplasmic granules. Granulocytes were then classified again into 2 types, large eosinophilic granulocytes and small eosinophilic granulocytes after staining with May-Grünwald Giemsa. In electron microscopy, both types of granulocytes contained electron-dense and electron-lucent cytoplasmic granules. Agranulocytes (hyalinocytes) were also divided into two cell types, large agranulocytes and small agranulocytes based on their sizes. Both cell types did not have granules in cytoplasm. Granulocyte and agranulocyte were negative for the enzyme activities of alkaline phosphatase, peroxidase, and $\beta$-glucuronidase but positive for phenoloxidase and acid phosphatase activities. Both types of haemocytes have phagocytic activity, with the exception of small agranulocyte, and granulocytes seemed more active in this respect than agranulocytes. This present study is the first study to characterize haemocytes of M. veneriformis.

We have selected an valuable pmbiotic strain; Lactobacillus sakei BK19 which has wide antagonic spectrum against fish pathogens . Present study investigated cultural characterization of L. sakei BK19 including pH tolerance , susceptibility of antibacterial agents and growth pattern with different environment such as nutritions, temperature and salinity. L. sakei BK19 showed Significantly higher resistance at low pH(around pH 4) environment and relative high antibiotic tolerance . In the study of optimal culture condition, maltose and saccharose provided the optimal nutritional culture condition while lactose and mannitol were unable to supply its carbon source for the fermentation of L. sakei BK19. Moreover. L. sakei BK19 showed good growth at the temperature range of 15 to $45^{o}C$ und the NaCl concentration of 0 to 7%. Hence, this particular probiotic strain may be benificial both in seawater and fresh weter conditions.
Endometrial tissue is a known source of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). We isolated canine endometrial stem cells from canine endometrial tissues using an enzymatic method and confirmed the immunophenotype of mesenchymal stem cells and multilineage differentiation. Canine endometrial tissues were obtained from canine ovariohysterectomy surgery and isolated using 0.2% collagenase type I. We measured the immunophenotype of stem cells using flow cytometry. To confirm the differentiation ability, a trilineage differentiation assay was conducted. In this study, canine endometrialderived MSCs (cEM-MSCs) were isolated by enzyme treatment and showed a spindle-shaped morphology under a microscope. Moreover, cEM-MSCs showed a trilineage differentiation ability. In this study, the canine endometrium was a good source of MSCs.
In this paper, Finger-Toe Index (FTI) is proposed as an analytic parameter for the characterization of arterial vessel. Different from the currently being employed pulse wave velocity (PWV) information of the volume pulse wave measured from 4 arterial channels, the proposed FTI uses the ratio of the shorter of the two up-stroke time of PPG from fingers ($UT_{finger}$) and that of PPG (Photoplethysmography) from toes ($UT_{toe}$). To verify the usefulness of the proposed method, Finger-Toe Indexes were derived from the volume pulse waves acquired from 50 people under examination aged from 12 to 81 years old, and they were then compared with blood pressure ankle-brachial index (ABI). It was successfully demonstrated that the arterial stiffness can be estimated with respect to age and FTI is more strongly correlated with the pulse transit time than ABI. From the regression analysis, we also found that FTI has significant correlation PWV for a quantitative index of arterial stiffness and provides more accurate information than ABI for the characterization of arterial vessel.
The preparation and characterization of niobium carbide crystallites were investigated in this study, and in particular, the effect of preparation conditions were studied on the synthesis of niobium carbides crystallites. For this purpose, various characterization techniques including x-ray diffraction, BET surface area, and oxygen uptake measurements were employed to characterize the synthesized niobium carbide crystallites. The niobium carbide crystallites were prepared using niobium oxide and methane gas or methane-hydrogen mixture. Using x-ray diffraction a lattice parameter of $4.45{\AA}$ and a crystallite size ranging from $52{\AA}$ to $580{\AA}$ was found. BET surface areas ranged from $3.2\;m^2/g$ to $16.6\;m^2/g$ and oxygen uptake values varied from $0.5{\mu}mol/g$ to $6.1{\mu}mol/g$. It was observed that niobium carbide crystallites were active for ammonia decomposition reaction. While the BET surface area increased with increasing the oxygen uptake, the conversion of ammonia decomposition reaction decreased. These results indicated that the ammonia decomposition over these materials was considered to be structure-sensitive.
Germplasm characterization and evolutionary process in viable populations are important links between the conservation and utilization of plant genetic resources. Here, an investigation is made, based on molecular and biochemical techniques for assessing and exploiting the genetic variability in germplasm characterization of taro, which would be useful in plant breeding and ex situ conservation of taro plant genetic resources. Geographical differentiation and phylogenetic relationships of Indian taro, Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott, were analyzed by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and isozyme of seven enzyme systems with specific reference to the Muktakeshi accession, which has been to be proved resistant to taro leaf blight caused by P. colocasiae. The significant differentiations in Indian taro cultivars were clearly demonstrated by RAPD and isozyme analysis. RAPD markers showed higher values for genetic differentiation among taro cultivars and lower coefficient of variation than those obtained from isozymes. Genetic differentiation was evident in the taro accessions collected from different regions of India. It appears that when taro cultivation was introduced to a new area, only a small fraction of genetic variability in heterogeneous taro populations was transferred, possibly causing random differentiation among locally adapted taro populations. The selected primers will be useful for future genetic analysis and provide taro breeders with a genetic basis for selection of parents for crop improvement. Polymorphic markers identified in the DNA fingerprinting study will be useful for screening a segregating population, which is being generated in our laboratory aimed at developing a taro genetic linkage map.
Acoustic Emission(AE) technique has been applied to not only material characterization evaluation but also on-line monitoring of the structural integrity. The AE source location technique is very important to identify the source, such as crack, leak detection. Since the AE waveforms obtained from sensors are very difficult to distinguish the defect signals, therefore, it is necessary to consider the signal analysis of the transient wave-form. In this study, we have divided the region of interest into a set finite elements, and calculated the arrival time differences between sensors by using the velocities at every degree from 0 to 90. A new technique for the source location of acoustic emission in fiberboard plates has been studied by introducing Wavelet Transform(WT) do-noising technique. WT is a powerful tool for processing transient signals with temporally varying spectra. If the WT de-noising was employed, we could successfully filter out the errors of source location in fiberboard plates by arrival time difference method. The accuracy of source location appeared to be significantly improved.
