  • This paper proposes the new method which is adopted in extracting character features and recognizing characters using fractal dimension of the Chaos theory which highly recolonizes a minute difference with strange attractor created from Henon system. This paper implements a high precision character recognition system. firstly, it gets features of mesh, projection and cross distance feature from character images. And their feature is converted into data of time series. Then using modified Henon system suggested in this paper, each characters attractor about standard Korean Character, KSC 5601 is reconstructed. Secondly, in order to analyze the Chaotic degree of each characters attractor, it gets last features of character image after calculating box-counting Dimension, Natural Measure, Information Bit, Information Dimension which are meant fractal dimension. An experimental result shows 97.49% character classification rates for 2350 Korean characters using proposed method in this paper.

  • Chaos communication system has a sensitive characteristic to initial conditions, because completely another signal is generated when initial condition of chaos equation is changed subtly. Also, chaos communication systems have the characteristics of non-periodic, non-predictability, the broadband signal, such as ease of implementation. Due to these characteristics, security of chaos communication system generally is evaluated better than other systems. However, BER(Bit Error Rate) performance is evaluated worse than other digital system, because existing chaos communication system's transmitter and receiver are strong influence by interference signal and noise. So, research to improve the BER performance of the chaotic communication system is performed continuously. In this paper, We will propose a new CDSK(Correlation Delay Shift Keying) receiver for BER performance improvement. After we compare to the performance of existing CDSK receiver and proposed CDSK receiver, BER performance of proposed CDSK receiver evaluate. Also, when using the new CDSK receiver, we evaluate the BER performance according to the spreading factors and find an optimum spreading factor. If chaos communication system use a new CDSK receiver, BER performance is improved than existing CDSK receiver. Also, if spreading factor's value is increased, BER performance is improved, because it is not nearly affected by interference signal and noise.

  • Chaotic analysis of EEG signal responding to auditory stimulus with various carrier frequency and constant triggering frequency is given in this paper. The EEG signal is obtained from the digital 12channel EEG system made in our laboratory. The carrier frequency is varied from 1 kHz to 3 kHz by 0.5 kHz step. Chaos analysis such as pseudo phase space portrait, Lyapunov exponent, and so on is done on the auditory stimulated evoked potential. This result is found to be quite consistent with the well known results from the psychological perception theory.

  • Due to the spread of mobile communication with the development of computer network, nowadays various types of multimedia data play an important role in many areas such as entertainments, culture contents, e-commerce or medical science. But for the real application of these data, the security in the course of saving or transferring them through the public network should be assured. In this sense, many encryption algorithm have been developed and utilized. Nonetheless, most of them have focused on the text data. So they may not be suitable to the multimedia application because of their large size and real time constraint. In this paper, a chaotic map has been employed to create a symmetric stream type of encryption scheme which may be applied to the digital images with a large amounts of data. Then an efficient algebraic encryption algorithm based on the elementary operations of the Boolean matrix and image data characteristics.

  • Due to the wide expansion of the internet, people can freely get information what they want with lesser efforts. However without adequate forms or rules to follow, it is getting more and more difficult to get necessary information. Because of seemingly chaotic status of the current web environment, it is sometimes called "Dizzy web" The user should wander from page to page to get necessary information. Therefore we need to construct system which properly recommends appropriate information for general user. The representative research field for this system is called Recommendation System(RS), The collaborative recommendation system is one of the RS. It was known to perform better than the other systems. When we perform the web user modeling or other web-mining tasks, the continuous feedback data is very important and frequently used. In this paper, we propose a collaborative recommendation system which can deal with the continuous feedback data and tried to construct the web page prediction system. We use a sojourn time of a user as continuous feedback data and combine the traditional model-based algorithm framework with the Support Vector Regression technique. In our experiments, we show the accuracy of our system and the computing time of page prediction compared with Pearson's correlation algorithm.algorithm.

  • Sleep deprivation may affect the brain functions such as cognition and consequently, dynamics of the BEG. We examined the effects of sleep deprivation on chaoticity of the EEG. Five volunteers were sleep-deprived over a period of 24 hours They were checked by EEG during two days. thc first day of baseline period and the second day of total sleep deprivation period. EEGs were recorded from 16 channels for nonlinear analysis. We employed a method of minimum embedding dimension to calculate the first positive Lyapunov exponent. Fer limited noisy data, this algorithm was strikingly faster and more accurate than previous ones. Our results show that the sleep deprived volunteers had lower values of the first positive Lyapunov exponent at ten channels (Fp1, F4. F8. T4, T5. C3, C4. P3. P4. O1) compared with the values of baseline periods. These results suggested that sleep deprivation leads to decrease of chaotic activity in brain and impairment of the information processing in the brain. We suggested that nonlinear analysis of the EEG before and after sleep deprivation may offer fruitful perspectives for understanding the role if sleep and the effects of sleep deprivation on the brain function.

  • Numerical forecasting depends on the initial condition error strongly because numerical model is a chaotic system. To calculate the sensitivity of some forecast aspects to the initial condition in the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) Unified Model (UM) which is originated from United Kingdom (UK) Meteorological Office (MO), an algorithm to calculate adjoint sensitivities is developed by modifying the adjoint perturbation forecast model in the KMA UM. Then the new algorithm is used to calculate adjoint sensitivity distributions for typhoon DIANMU (201004). Major initial adjoint sensitivities calculated for the 48 h forecast error are located horizontally in the rear right quadrant relative to the typhoon motion, which is related with the inflow regions of the environmental flow into the typhoon, similar to the sensitive structures in the previous studies. Because of the upward wave energy propagation, the major sensitivities at the initial time located in the low to mid- troposphere propagate upward to the upper troposphere where the maximum of the forecast error is located. The kinetic energy is dominant for both the initial adjoint sensitivity and forecast error of the typhoon DIANMU. The horizontal and vertical energy distributions of the adjoint sensitivity for the typhoon DIANMU are consistent with those for other typhoons using other models, indicating that the tools for calculating the adjoint sensitivity in the KMA UM is credible.

  • As population grows and urban facilities are concentrated in specific areas due to recent urbanization and industrialization, cities have structures vulnerable to both natural and man-made disasters. Most of these structures, whether buildings or residential houses, are left in a defenseless state if not given the appropriate check-up before they are built. The process of rapid urbanization without establishing the proper urban fire risk assessment will surely lead to disasters. This phenomenon occurred during the process of rapid urbanization and maybe said the result of chaotic urban expansion where modern urban infrastructure is not yet equipped in the city. Under the said circumstances, propagation processes of Korean urban fire cases were investigated to establish fire risk assessment system. Moreover, this paper explains the experiment performed for establishing urban risk assessment model. The said experiment was conducted using the new urban fire risk assessment model.

  • In this paper, Nonlinear Autoregressive (NAR) method based on Least Square-Support Vector Regression (LS-SVR) is introduced and tested for nonlinear sustained vowel modeling. In the database of total 43 sustained vowel of Benign Vocal Fold Lesions having aperiodic waveform, this nonlinear synthesizer near perfectly reproduced chaotic sustained vowels, and also conserved the naturalness of sound such as jitter, compared to Linear Predictive Coding does not keep these naturalness. However, the results of some phonation are quite different from the original sounds. These results are assumed that single-band model can not afford to control and decompose the high frequency components. Therefore multi-band model with wavelet filterbank is adopted for substituting single band model. As a results, multi-band model results in improved stability. Finally, nonlinear sustained vowel modeling using NAR based on LS-SVR can successfully reconstruct synthesized sounds nearly similar to original voiced sounds.

  • Neural networks, having highly nonlinear dynamics by virtue of the distributed nonlinearities and the learing ability, have the potential for the adaptive prediction of nonstationary signals. This paper describes the nonlinear prediction of these signals in two ways; using a nonlinear module and the cascade combination of nonlinear and linear modules. Fully-connected recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and a conventional tapped-delay-line (TDL) filter are used as the nonlinear and linear modules respectively. The dynamic behavior of the proposed predictors is demonstrated for chaotic time series adn speech signals. For the relative comparison of prediction performance, the proposed predictors are compared with a conventional ARMA linear prediction model. Experimental results show that the neural networks based adaptive predictor ourperforms the traditional linear scheme significantly. We also find that the cascade combination predictor is well suitable for the prediction of the time series which contain large variations of signal amplitude.
