  • This paper discussed the shape effect of ceramic support carrier in order to facilitate biomass immobilization. The shape of ceramic support carrier was modified hollow pipe type into hollow gear type. After seeding, microorganisms were attached in crevices where protection from shear forces or surfaces where easy to contact with support carrier surface. In case of hollow gear type carrier, initial attachment rate was faster than that of hollow pipe type and obtained thick biofilm. Synthetic wastewater(COD:75~880 mg/L, organic loading rate:0.36~4.22 kgCOD/㎥.d) was treated aerobic fixed bed biofilm reactor where 100% of the volume was filled with the ceramic carrier. COD removal efficiency of reactor filled with gear type support carrier was a little high withing 70 days, and then showed similar removal efficiency. It was found that highly loaded operation with up to 4.22 kgCOD/㎥.d was possible in both reactor. Total biomass amounts of pipe type was higher than gear type, however, attached biomass of gear type was higher than that of pipe type.

  • Nanocrystalline ceria particles were prepared by using the ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. The prepared ceria particles were found to be spherical and non-agglomerated by the SEM and TEM analyses. It was found that carrier gas influences the size and morphology. It was found that the air stream of carrier gas results in porous agglomerated structure of ceria abrasives, whereas solid nano-sphere can be obtained in a more oxidizing atmosphere.

  • Robust reversible watermarking has attracted widespread attention in the field of information hiding in recent years. It should not only have robustness against attacks in transmission but also meet the reversibility of distortion-free transmission. According to our best knowledge, the most recent robust reversible watermarking methods adopt a single image as the carrier, which might lead to low efficiency in terms of carrier utilization. To address the issue, a novel dual-image robust reversible watermarking framework is proposed in this paper to effectively utilize the correlation between both carriers (namely dual images) and thus improve the efficiency of carrier utilization. In the dual-image robust reversible watermarking framework, a two-layer robust watermarking mechanism is designed to further improve the algorithm performances, i.e., embedding capacity and robustness. In addition, an optimization model is built to determine the parameters. Finally, the proposed framework is applied in different domains (namely domain-independent), i.e., Slantlet Transform and Singular Value Decomposition domain, and Zernike moments, respectively to demonstrate its effectiveness and generality. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed dual-image robust reversible watermarking framework.

  • Wastewater from the pigment industry has high levels of organics and is known as hardly biodegradable. The objective of this study is to evaluate the applicability of aerobic fixed-bed boifilm reactor packed with ceramic support carrier for the pigment wastewater treatment. Orange 2(widely used azo pigment) adsorption experiment onto biofilm and activated sludge, and continuous treatment experiments were performed. In batch adsorption experiment, maximum adsorption quantity of biofilm was at least two times higher than that of activated sludge. In continuous experiment using aerobic fixed-bed biodilm reactor, the influent concentration of COD and Orange 2 were 75~500mg/${\ell}$(0.45~3.00kg COD/$m^3.day), 5~50mg/$\ell$(0.03~0.30kg Orange 2/$m^3$.day), respectively. At a COD loading rate 2.5kg COD/$m^3$.day and Orange 2 loading rate of 0.18kg Orange 2/$m^3$.day, removal efficiency of COD and Orange 2 were over 95%, 97%, respectively.

  • A phenolic resin industrial wastewater containing about 41,000 mg/l of phenol and 2,800 mg/l of formaldehyde was biologically treated by a mixed culture GE2 immobilized on ceramic beads. This study was carried out with three experimental groups : Control-only added the sludge of papermill wastewater ; GE2 treatment-added GE2 to Control ; Ceramic treatment-applied ceramic carrier to GE2 treatment. When the original wastewater was diluted 80 times with aerated tap-water, influent COD$_{Mn}$ WaS 1,140 mg/l and that of the effluent was in the range of 22-35 mg/l, which was not much different among the experimental groups. However, at 20-times dilution, influent COD$_{Mn}$ was 4,800 mg/l and the effluent COD$_{Mn}$ of Control, GE2 treatment and Ceramic treatment was 179, 128 and 94 mg/l, respectively. COD$_{Mn}$, removal efficiency by Ceramic treatment was the highest, at 98.0%. At this time, the effluent phenol concentration of Control, GE2 treatment and Ceramic treatment was 10.71, 7.93 and 5.60, respectively. As the dilution times decreased, the removal efficiency of COD$_{Mn}$ and phenol did not change much, but COD$_{Mn}$ and phenol concentration of the effluent increased. Consequently, it is likely that the phenolic industrial wastewater containing phenol and formaldehyde can be biologically treated using a GE2 and ceramic carrier and that at 40-times dilution, the effluent completely meets the effluent standards for industrial wastewater treatment plant.

  • Dysprosium monotitanate $(Dy_2TiO_5)$ powder was synthesized by a simple mixed-oxide ceramics process using ethylene glycol (EG). Ethylene glycol, as the organic carrier for the metal cations, was used for polymerization mechanism. The successful used of a non-chelating polymer for the mixed-oxide ceramic process indicated that cation chelation is not the only route for creating stable ceramic precursors. Characterization of the powders by various thermal analysis, microscopy, and diffraction methods has been carried out.

  • Fine powders of the 2212 superconducting phase of bismuth system have been prepared directly from solution using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis. The fine superconducting powders produced by pyrolysis were characterized for the size, shape, and crystalline phase by SEM and XRD. The pyrolysis temperature, flow rate of the carrier gas, residence time of the droplets greatly influenced the size, shape, and crystalline phase. The optimum temperature and flow rate of the carrier gas for the preparation of fine powders of the 2212 superconduting phase were found to be 830$^{\circ}C$and 3ι/min, respectively.

  • A biosensor with PZT piezoelectric ceramic crystal was developed for the detection of formaldehyde gas. Poled PZT piezoelectric ceramic disk was made from ZrO2, TiO2 and Nb2O5, together with the addition of PbO and polyvinyl alcohol, through various processes of mixing, calcination drying, crushing, forming, sintering, polishing, ion coating and poling. Oscillator circuit of sensor was made of operational amplifier(AD811AN). Formaldehyde dehydrogenase was immobilized onto a piezoelectic ceramic crystal, together with the cofactors, reduced glutathione and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. The effect of flow rate on the sensitivity was determined by varing the flow rate of carrier gas from 24.7mL/min to 111.7mL/min through detector cell. The results indicated that as the flow rate was increased, the recovery rate was increased. And a significant increase in the sensitivity was observed in enhanced flow rate of carrier gas. Frequency difference(ΔF) of immobilized PZT piezoelectic disk increased proportionally to the concentration gas and reproduced to repeated exposures of formaldehyde gas(28ppm, Δ68Hz).

  • A catalyst with CuO ceramic filter for simultaneous treatment of dust and HAP was prepared and characterized. Catalytic ceramic filter can not only potentially achieve the substantial savings in energy but provide with effective optimization and integration of process for simultaneous removal of SO$_2$, NO$_{x}$ and particulates from flue gases. Catalytic ceramic filters remove simultaneously particulates on exterior surface of filters and reduce NO to $N_2$ and $H_2O$ by SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) process. Preparation of catalyst impregnated ceramic filter with disk shape (Ψ 50) follow the processing of alumino-silicate ceramic filter, support impregnation and catalyst impregnation (copper oxide). Preparation routes of alumino-silicate catalyst carrier suitable for production of catalytic filters practically were studied and developed using the sol-gel and colloidal processing, homogeneous precipitation and impregnation method. Characterization of the catalyst, catalyst carrier catalytic filter materials have been performed the using various techniques such as BET, XRD, TGA, SEM. Combination of the sol-gel and colloidal processing and impregnation method is recommended to prepare catalyst carriers economically for catalytic filter applications.s.

  • Droplet size is one of the important factors in the deposition and drift of agrichemical application. In this study, droplet size and its distribution of the three different sizes of ceramic hollow cone nozzles being used in the air carrier sprayer for apple production were investigated at the various nozzle pressures and the three air velocities. The Malvern particle size analyzer were used for the measurement of droplet size and its distribution. The important results emerged from th is study can be summarized as follows. 1. Discharged rate was increase with the increase of the nozzle diameter and pressure, amount of the difference was remarkable between the nozzle diameter of 1.0, 1.2 and 1.5 mm, but no difference were found between the diameter of 1.0 and 1.2 mm in the same nozzle pressure. 2. Mass median diameter were varied as 40~160 ${mu}m$ at the air velocity of 0 m/s, 70~140 ${mu}m$ of 15 m/s and 100~160 ${mu}m$ of 20 m/s 3. It appeared that the air velocity range of 15~20 m/s was desirable for both drift and deposition control in the given experimental conditions.
