  • As the Internet is prevalent in our life, harmful contents have been increasing on the Internet, which has become a very serious problem. Among them, pornographic video is harmful as poison to our children. To prevent such an event, there are many filtering systems which are based on the keyword based methods or image based methods. The main purpose of this paper is to devise a system that classifies the pornographic videos based on the audio information. We use Mel-Cepstrum Modulation Energy (MCME) which is modulation energy calculated on the time trajectory of the Mel-Frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) and MFCC as the feature vector and Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) as the classifier. With the experiments, the proposed system classified the 97.5% of pornographic data and 99.5% of non-pornographic data. We expect the proposed method can be used as a component of the more accurate classification system which uses video information and audio information simultaneously.

  • Environmental noise can degrade the performance of speech recognition system. This paper presents a procedure for performing cepstrum based feature compensation to make recognition system robust to noise. The approach is based on direct compensation of spectral tilt to remove effects of additive noise. The noise compensation scheme operates in the cepstral domain by means of calculating spectral tilt of the log power spectrum. Spectral compensation is applied in combination with SNR-dependent cepstral mean compensation. Experimental results, in the presence of white Gaussian noise, subway noise and car noise, show that the proposed compensation method achieves substantial improvements in recognition accuracy at various SNR's.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze perceptual and spectral/cepstral measurements in patients with adductor spasmodic dysphonia(ADSD). Sixty participants with gender and age matched individuals(30 ADSD and 30 controls) were recorded in reading a sentence and sustained the vowel /a/. Acoustic data were analyzed acoustically by measuring CPP, L/H ratio, mean CPP F0 and CSID, and auditory-perceptual ratings were measured using GRBAS. The main results can be summarized as below: (a) the CSID for the connected speech was significantly higher than for the sustained vowel (b) the G, R and S for the connected speech were significantly higher than for the sustained vowel (c) Spectral/cepstral parameters were significantly correlated with the perceptual parameters, and (d) the ROC analysis showed that the threshold of 13.491 for the CSID achieved a good classification for ADSD, with 86.7% sensitivity and 96.7% specificity. Spectral and cepstral analysis for the connected speech is especially meaningful on cases where perceptual analysis and clinical evaluation alone are insufficient.

  • A camera model with optical axes parallel has been widely used for stereo vision applications. A pair of input ages are obtained from a convergent-looking stereo camera model based on the human visual system in this per, and each image is divided into quadrant regions with respect to the fixation point. The reasoning of quadrant partitions is based on the human visual system and is proven by a geometrical method. Image patches : constructed from the right and left stereo images. A modified cepstrum filter is applied to the patches and disparity vectors are determined by peak detection algorithm. The three-dimensional information for synthetic ages is obtained from the measured disparity and the convergent stereo camera model. It is shown that the experimental results of the proposed method for various stereo images are accurate around the fixation point like the human visual system.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the acoustic characteristics of Parkinsonian speech, with respect to different utterance conditions, by employing acoustic/auditory-perceptual analysis. The subjects of the study were 15 patients (M=7, F=8) with Parkinson's disease who were asked to read out sentences under different utterance conditions (clear/casual). The sentences read out by each subject were recorded, and the recorded speech was subjected to cepstrum and spectrum analysis using Analysis of Dysphonia in Speech and Voice (ADSV). Additionally, auditory-perceptual evaluation of the recorded speech was conducted with respect to breathiness and loudness. Results indicate that in the case of clear speech, there was a statistically significant increase in the cepstral peak prominence (CPP), and a decrease in the L/H ratio SD (ratio of low to high frequency spectral energy SD) and CPP F0 SD values. In the auditory-perceptual evaluation, a decrease in breathiness and an increase in loudness were noted. Furthermore, CPP was found to be highly correlated to breathiness and loudness. This provides objective evidence of the immediate usefulness of clear speech intervention in improving the voice quality of Parkinsonian speech.

  • In this paper, we propose a predictive block constrained trellis coded quantization (BC-TCQ) to quantize cepstral coefficients for the distributed speech recognition. For Prediction of the cepstral coefficients. the 1st order auto-regressive (AR) predictor is used. To quantize the prediction error signal effectively. we use a BC-TCQ. The performance is compared to the split vector quantizers used in the ETSI standard, demonstrating reduction in the cepstral distance and computational complexity.

  • The researches of the emotions are currently great interest in speech processing as well as in human-machine interaction domain. In the recent years, more and more of researches relating to emotion synthesis or emotion recognition are developed for the different purposes. Each approach uses its methods and its various parameters measured on the speech signal. In this paper, we proposed using a short-time parameter: MFCC coefficients (MelFrequency Cepstrum Coefficients) and a simple but efficient classifying method: Vector Quantification (VQ) for speaker-dependent emotion recognition. Many other features: energy, pitch, zero crossing, phonetic rate, LPC... and their derivatives are also tested and combined with MFCC coefficients in order to find the best combination. The other models: GMM and HMM (Discrete and Continuous Hidden Markov Model) are studied as well in the hope that the usage of continuous distribution and the temporal behaviour of this set of features will improve the quality of emotion recognition. The maximum accuracy recognizing five different emotions exceeds $88\%$ by using only MFCC coefficients with VQ model. This is a simple but efficient approach, the result is even much better than those obtained with the same database in human evaluation by listening and judging without returning permission nor comparison between sentences [8]; And this result is positively comparable with the other approaches.

  • In this paper, we analyze the time delayed effect of speech feature. Here, the time delayed effect means that the current feature vector of speech is under the influence of the previous feature vectors. In this paper, we use a set of LPC driven cepstal coefficients and evaluate the time delayed effect of cepstrum with the performance of the speech recognition system. For the experiments, we used the speech database consisting of 22 words which uttered by 50 male speakers. The speech database uttered by 25 male speakers was used for training, and the other set was used for testing. The experimental results show that the time delayed effect is large in the lower orders of feature vector but small in the higher orders.
