It is very difficult to determine suitable cutting conditions in order to obtain accurate cutting profiles because machining errors caused by tool deflection depend upon cutting conditions. In this study the relationship between real cutting profiles (inclined shapes and machining errors) and cutting conditions was modeled in order to fabricate draft angle on micro molds. CCD (Central Composite Design) of DOE (Design Of Experiment) and RSM (Response Surface Method) were applied in order to model the relationship between cutting conditions and machining errors. In order to use CCD the range of radial depth of cut was chosen by $10-90{\mu}m$ and the range of feedrate was chosen by 200-300mm/min, and 9 points of cutting conditions were chosen inside determined ranges. Then, actual cutting processes were carried out as respect to 9 points of cutting conditions, draft angles and real cutting profiles were measured on cutting profiles, each response surface function was determined by conducting response surface analysis and the functions were represented by 3-dimensional graphs, contour lines and $101{\times}101$ matrices. Consequently it is possible to determine suitable cutting conditions in order to obtain arbitrary given draft angles and cutting profiles by using modeling. To validate proposed approach in this study suitable cutting conditions were determined by modeling in order to obtain arbitrary given draft angle and cutting profile, and actual cutting processes were carried out. About 95% of good agreement between predicted and measured values was obtained.
Naturally immobilized tannase (tannin acyl hydrolase, E.C. 3.1.1.20) has many advantages, as it avoids the expensive and laborious operation of isolation, purification, and immobilization, plus it is highly stable in adverse pH and temperature. However, in the case of cell-associated enzymes, since the enzyme is associated with the biomass, separation of the pure biomass is necessary. However, tannic acid, a known inducer of tannase, forms insoluble complexes with media proteins, making it difficult to separate pure biomass. Therefore, this study optimizes the production of cell-associated tannase using a "protein-tannin complex" free media. An exploratory study was first conducted in shake-flasks to select the inducer, carbon source, and nitrogen sources. As a result it was found that gallic acid induces tannase synthesis, a tryptose broth gives higher biomass, and lactose supplementation is beneficial. The medium was then optimized using response surface methodology based on the full factorial central composite design in a 3 l bioreactor. A $2^3$ factorial design augmented by 7 axial points (${\alpha}$ = 1.682) and 2 replicates at the center point was implemented in 17 experiments. A mathematical model was also developed to show the effect of each medium component and their interactions on the production of cell-associated tannase. The validity of the proposed model was verified, and the optimized medium was shown to produce maximum cell-associated tannase activity of 9.65 U/l, which is 93.8% higher than the activity in the basal medium, after 12 h at pH 5.0, $30^{\circ}C$. The optimum medium consists of 38 g/l lactose, 50 g/l tryptose, and 2.8 g/l gallic acid.

In the lower arm design process, a tolerance optimization of the variance of design variables should be preceded before manufacturing process, since it is very cost-effective compared to a strict management of tolerance of products. In this study, a design of experiment (DOE) based on response surface model (RSM) was carried out to find optimized design variables of the lower arm, which can meet a given requirement of probability constraint for the process capability index (Cpk) of the weight and maximum stress. Then, the design space was explored by using the central composite design method, in which the 2nd order Taylor expansion was applied to predict a standard deviation of the responses. The optimal solutions satisfying the probability constraint of the Cpk were found by considering both of the mean value and the standard deviation of the design variables.
In this study, a new type of composite material combined with carbonyl iron, a relatively strong ferromagnetic material, was prepared to overcome the current application limitations of Prussian blue, which is effective in removing radioactive cesium. The surface of the prepared composite was analyzed using SEM and XRD, and it was confirmed that nano-sized Prussian Blue was synthesized on the particle surface. In order to evaluate the cesium removal ability, 0.2 g of the composite prepared for raw cesium aquatic solution at a concentration of 5 ㎍ was added and reacted, resulting in a cesium removal rate of 99.5 %. The complex follows Langmuir's adsorption model and has a maximum adsorption amount (qe) of 79.3 mg/g. The Central Composite Design (CCD) of the Response Surface Method (RSM) was used to derive the optimal application conditions of the prepared composite. The optimal application conditions achieved using Response optimization appeared at a stirring speed of pH 7, 17.6 RPM. The composite manufactured through this research is a material that overcomes the Prussian Blue limit in powder form and is considered to be excellent economically and environmentally when applied to a cesium removal site.
This study is to optimize the condition of pulse parameters using the response surface method in micro pulse TIG welding of pleated type metallic filter. The input parameters used were pulse current, base current, pulse duty, frequency and welding speed and the hydraulic pressure was used as the output parameter. The central composite design was designed using second order regression model, As the results, the optimal welding condition to manufacture the pleated type metallic filter was obtained.

In order to solve the conflict problem between the ride comfort and the road holding, the optimal design of shock absorber that minimizes the r.m.s. of sprung mass vertical acceleration and pitch rate with the understeer characteristics constraints in the high speed stability is proposed. The design of experiments and the nonlinear optimization algorithm are used together to obtain the optimal design of shock absorber. The second order regression models of the input variables(front and rear damping coefficients) and the output variables (ride comfort index and road holding one) are obtained by the central composite design in the design of experiments. Then the optimal design of shock absorber can be systematically adjusted with applying the nonlinear optimization algorithm to the obtained second order regression model. The frequency response analysis of sprung mass acceleration and pitch rate shows the effectiveness of the proposed optimal design of shock absorber in the sprung mass resonance range with the understeer characteristics constraints.
The purpose of this work is to optimize composition of mixture refrigerants used in the C3MR (Propane & Mixed Refrigerants) process by a statistical optimization technique. C3MR studied in this work is one of widely used commercial natural gas liquefaction processes with high efficiency. Process simulation was performed in a commercial process simulator and methane ($C_1$), ethane ($C_2$), propane ($C_3$), and nitrogen ($N_2$) were selected as mixed refrigerants. Using the process model, optimum composition of refrigerants mixture was determined via mixture design and central composite design to produce minimum energy consumption. As a result, it was confirmed that energy consumption is reduced down to 11.3% comparing to existing design. It was also compared with heat effectiveness through temperature profile of MCHE (main cryogenic heat exchanger).
An optimal robust design methodology has been developed to minimize warpage in injection-molded pats. The response surface methodology was applied to obtain a functional relationship between design variables and warpage value, and the modified complex method was used as an optimization tool to search for an optimal design solution over prescribed design region. To attain robustness against process variations, Taguchi's SN ratio was introduced as the design metric. The proposed optimal design procedure was applied to an actual part, the Guide-ASF model of a fax machine, and the usefulness of the methodology was shown through the CAE simulation using a commercial injection molding software package.
The use of composite restorative materials is established due to continuing improvements in the materials and restorative techniques. Composite resins are widely used for the restoration of cervical lesions because of esthetics, good physical properties and working time. There are several types of cavity design for class V composite resin filling, but inappropriate cavity form may affect bonding failure, microleakage and fracture during mastication. Cavity preparations for composite materials should be as conservative as possible. The extent of the preparation is usually determined by the size, shape, and location of the defect. The design of the cavity preparation to receive a composite restoration may vary depending on several factors. In this study, 5 types of class V cavity were prepared on each maxillary central incisor. The types are; 1) V-shape, 2) round(U) shape, 3) box form, 4) box form with incisal bevel and 5) box form with incisal bevel and grooves for axial line angles. After restoration, in order to observe the concentration of stress at bonding surfaces of teeth and restorations, developing a 2-dimensional finite element model of labiopalatal section in tooth, surrounding bone, periodontal ligament and gingiva, based on the measurements by Wheeler, loading force from direction of 45 degrees from lingual side near the incisal edge was applied. This study analysed Von Mises stress with SuperSap finite element analysis program(Algor Interactive System, Inc.). The results were as follows : 1. Stress concentration was prevalent at tooth-resin bonding surface of cervical side on each model. 2. In model 2 without line angle, stress was distributed evenly. 3. Preparing bevel eliminated stress concentration much or less at line angle. 4. Model with round-shape distributed stress concentration more evenly than box-type model with sharp line angle, therefore decreased possibility of fracture. 5. Adding grooves to line angles had no effect of decreasing stress concentration to the area.
Cyclotrimethylene trinitramine (RDX) is a high explosive commonly used for military applications. Submicronization of RDX particles has been a critical issue in order to alleviate the unintended and accidental stimuli toward safer and more powerful performances. The purpose of this study is to optimize experimental variables for drowning-out crystallization applied to produce submicron RDX particles. Effects of RDX concentration, anti-solvent temperature and anti-solvent mass were analyzed by the central composite rotatable design. The adjusted determination coefficient of regression model was calculated to be 0.9984 having the p-value less than 0.01. Response surface plots based on the central composite rotatable design determined the optimum conditions such as RDX concentration of 3 wt%, anti-solvent temperature of $0.2^{\circ}C$ and anti-solvent mass of 266 g. The optimum and experimental diameters of RDX particles were measured to be $0.53{\mu}m$ and $0.53{\mu}m$, respectively. The regression model satisfactorily predicts the average diameter of RDX particles prepared by drowning-out crystallization. Structure of RDX crystals was found to be ${\alpha}$-form by X-ray diffraction analysis and FT-IR spectroscopy.
