A variety of Cyclotella atomus were discovered among the epiphytic diatoms on eelgrass (Zostera marina L.) in Korean waters. Cyclotella atomus var. marina has a flat and disc-shaped valve, and is clearly differentiated into a striate marginal zone and a smooth central zone. The valves have a very small diameter ranging from 3.1-3.4 ${\mu}m$. This small diatom does not have any central ornamentation. The marginal striate zone has numerous granules toward the mantle. The valves have five or six marginal fultoportulae with two satellite pores and a single marginal rimoportula.

Statement of problem. There have been few studies about the marginal fit of Auro Galvano Crowns. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal fit of the anterior single restorations. Material and methods. The in vitro marginal discrepancies of metal-ceramic, Auro Galvano Crown and coping were evaluated and compared. The Auro Gavano Crowns were made from one extracted maxillary central incisor prepared by milling machine. 30crowns per each system were fabricated. Measurements of a crown were recorded at 50 points that were randomly selected for marginal gap evaluation. Parametric statistical analysis was performed for the results. Results. Mean marginal gap dimensions and standard deviations at the marginal opening for the anterior single crowns were $74{\pm}21{\mu}m$ for the control (metal-ceramic restoration), $45{\pm}11{\mu}m$ for Auro Galvano Crown coping, and $51{\pm}9{\mu}m$ for the Auro Galvano Crown. Conclusions. Auro Calvano Crown showed significantly smaller (P<.05) marginal gap than the control. Ceramic application did not significantly affected the marginal fit of Auro Galvano Crown. (P>.05)
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cervical margin fitness in the collarless metal ceramic crowns formed by different techniques. Specimens were divided as follows : the metal ceramic crowns with metal butt margin as group I, the collarless metal ceramic crowns formed with resin binder technique as group II, and the collarless metal ceramic crowns formed with shoulder powder mixed with phosphate-bonded investment liquids on a refractory die as group III. Each group was made of five specimens, and their marginal fitness on each epoxy die was evaluated under scanning electron microscope of x200 magnification at three measuring points : mesial, central, distal. The following results were obtained. 1. The metal ceramic crowns with metal butt margin exhibited significantly better marginal fitness than the collarless metal ceramic crowns. The marginal fitness in descending order was group I, III, II. 2. The collarless metal ceramic crown formed with resin binder technique had the worst marginal fitness & showed cervical color variation and dermacation between the corrected porcelain & the dentin porcelain. 3. The collarless metal ceramic crowns formed with shoulder powder mixed with phosphate-bonded investment liquids on a refractory die exhibited significantly better marginal fitness & sharper marginal configuration than the other collarless group.
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to measure the changes on the marginal and internal adaptation of zirconia based anterior fixed partial dentures after the porcelain firing process. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of 34 anterior fixed partial dentures using LAVA CAD/CAM system (3M ESPE, Germany) were applied. Two silicone replicas were obtained: one is obtained before porcelain firing process (initial) and the other is obtained after porcelain firing process (final), followed by the examination under a binocular stereomicroscope. Kruskal Wallis and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks tests were used for the statistical analysis (P<.05). RESULTS. No statistically significant difference was found between initial and final marginal gap values (P>.05). At the internal gap measurements, final marginal area values ($59.54{\mu}m$) were significantly lower than the initial marginal area values ($68.68{\mu}m$)(P<.05). The highest and the lowest internal gap values were observed at the incisal/occlusal area and at the marginal area, respectively. In addition, lower internal gap values were obtained for canines than for central incisors, lateral incisors and premolars at the incisal area (P<.05). CONCLUSION. The firing cycles did not affect the marginal gap of Lava CAD/CAM system, but it is controversial for the internal gap.
Statement of problem. There have been many studies about marginal discrepancy of single restorations made by various systems and materials. However most of the statistical inferences are not definite because of sample size, measurement number, measuring instruments, etc, and there have been few studies about the marginal fit of the Digident CAD/ CAM zirconia ceramic crowns. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal fit of the anterior single restorations made by using the Digident CAD / CAM zirconia ceramic crowns with metal-ceramic restorations and to obtain more accurate information by using a large enough sample size and by making sufficient measurements per specimen. Material and Methods. The crowns were made from one extracted maxillary central incisor pre-pared with a 1mm shoulder margin and $6^{\circ}$ taper walls by milling machine. The in vitro marginal discrepancies of the digident CAD / CAM zirconia ceramic crowns and control groups(metal ceramic crowns) were evaluated and compared. Twenty crowns per each system were fabricated. Measurements of a crown were recorded at 50 points that were randomly selected for marginal gap evaluation. Parametric statistical analysis was performed for the results. Conclusion. Within the limitations of this in vitro study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. Mean gap dimensions and standard deviations at the marginal opening for maxillary incisal crowns were $88{\pm}10{\mu}m$ for the control (metal-ceramic crowns), $92{\pm}4{\mu}m$ for Digident CAD / CAM zirconia ceramic crowns. 2. Marginal gap between Digident CAD / CAM zirconia ceramic crowns and metal ceramic crowns did not show significant difference (P>.05). 3. The Digident CAD/ CAM zirconia ceramic crowns and metal ceramic crowns showed clinically acceptable marginal discrepancy.
This study was designed to investigate the distributions of the positive cells in rat spleens by two monoclonal antibodies of MT1 and MB2. The spleens of immature 10 rats (Sprague Duwely, approximately 200gm) were collected and paraffin-embedded sections of spleens were stained with immunohistochemical methods. Higher proportions of MT1-positive cell number in spleens were ordered as marginal zone(8.5~18.1%), red pulp(2.1~8.8%) and periarterial lymphoid sheath(0~1.6%) in white pulp, and those of MB2-positive cell number are ordered as the central area of the periarterial lymphoid sheath(100%), red pulp(29.1~45.0%), marginal zone(15.2~30.4%), and peripheral area of periarterial lymphoid sheath(2.3~3.5%). The positive cells by MB2 are more numerous in number than by MT1. The above results were concluded that the positive cells by above two monoclonal antibodies were scattered throughout the red pulp and marginal zone, but in the central area of the periarterial lymphoid sheath, the MB2-positive cells only were present.
PURPOSE. Few studies have investigated the marginal accuracy of 3-unit zirconia fixed partial dentures (FPDs) fabricated by computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) system. The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal fit of zirconia FPDs made using two CAD/CAM systems with that of metal-ceramic FPDs. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Artificial resin maxillary central and lateral incisors were prepared for 3-unit FPDs and fixed in yellow stone. This model was duplicated to epoxy resin die. On the resin die, 15 three-unit FPDs were fabricated per group (45 in total): Group A, zirconia 3-unit FPDs made with the Everest system; Group B, zirconia 3-unit FPDs made with the Lava system; and Group C, metal-ceramic 3-unit FPDs. They were cemented to resin dies with resin cement. After removal of pontic, each retainer was separated and observed under a microscope (Presize 440C). Marginal gaps of experimental groups were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Duncan test. RESULTS. Mean marginal gaps of 3-unit FPDs were $60.46{\mu}m$ for the Everest group, $78.71{\mu}m$ for the Lava group, and $81.32{\mu}m$ for the metal-ceramic group. The Everest group demonstrated significantly smaller marginal gap than the Lava and the metal-ceramic groups (P<.05). The marginal gap did not significantly differ between the Lava and the metal-ceramic groups (P>.05). CONCLUSION. The marginal gaps of anterior 3-unit zirconia FPD differed according to CAD/CAM systems, but still fell within clinically acceptable ranges compared with conventional metal-ceramic restoration.
The development of science and transportation technology leads to the increase of inter - city networks that play an important role in urban growth. Overall, numerous studies based on network theory pay attention to positive effects of urban network on urban growth. However, some studies have pointed out the negative effects of inter-city interactions such as straw effects. This implies that the network between cities may not be positively correlated with urban growth, and that the direction of the influence may vary from a certain threshold, such as the marginal utility curve. In this context, the purpose of this study is to measure the impacts of network with central city on urban growth in the capital region and examine the relationship between urban network and growth. Two multiple regression models are employed with changes in population and employment as dependent variables. The urban network index and other control variables are used as independent variables. Especially, the urban network indexes are used in quadratic forms to examine non linear relations with urban growth such U-shape or an inverted U-shape. The results show that the relationships between networks with the central city and urban growth are not a simple linear, and the influence can be changed from the critical point.
The Buseok pluton in the Yeongju Batholith is a comagmatic plutonic rocks which haveconcentrically compositional zoning. The lithofacies of the Buseok pluton comprise hornblende biotite tonalite in the southern part of the pluton, porphyritic and equigranular biotite granodiorite in the northern part and biotite granite in the north-central part. The compositional variations change gradually with continuity both within and between the lithofacies. The concentrically zoned pattern is relatively mafic rocks composed of high-temperature mineral assemblages in margin of the southern part, passing inward and northward gradually to more felsic rock in core of the north-central part. Changes in the textures and microstructures, as well as in the mineral content, take place between rock types of the plutons. Darker colored, generally coarse-grained, well foliated tonalite pass inward to light colored, coarse-grained, poorly foliated granodiorite, and finally give way to lighter colored, medium-grained, nearly nonfoliated granite. The foliation are best developed in the marginal part of the tonalite. Here, the regional myolitic foliation in the tonalite is steep northward and parallels to its southeastern contact with the country rock, but the magmatic foliation from disc-shaped mafic microgranitoid enclaves is subvertical and parallels the contacts with the country rock. As the tonalite approaches biotite granite in composition, the foliation is indistinct. Modal and chemical data for the pluton show quantitative compositional variation from the margin of the southern part to the core of the north-central part. Quartz and K-feldspar increase toward the core of the pluton, whereas hornblende, biotite and color index decrease. /Abundances of $SiO_2$and $K_2O$$_2$O increase toward the core according to the variation in quartz and K-feldspar, whereas those of MnO, CaO, $TiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3$, MgO and $P_2O_5$ decrease corresponding to the variation in mafic and accessaries. The compositional zonation resulted from fractional crystallization involving downward settling of earlier crystals, accompanied by upward movement of melt and volatiles, and followed by accessary marginal accretion of crystalline material in the magma to the marginal part. Although a little crustal contamination by the wall rock is recognized from the isotope data, the contamination is not only dominated over but also appropriate for forming the compositional variation in the pluton.
Concerning the pathogenesis of acquired cholesteatoma in attic, there has been postulated theories by immigration from the Shrapnell's portion of the tympanic membrane, posterosuperior quardrant of the deep meatal skin and invagination of the margin of the central perforation. Otherwise, squamous metaplasia of the epithelium lining the middle ear cleft has been supported as a possible cause of cholesteatoma. Clinically, there has been known of the facts that cholesteatoma is formed in the attic but the pathogenesis concerning the acquired cholesteatoma is not still exactly reported. Recently, authors analyzed 170 cases of cholesteatomatous middle ear performed the operation to the middle ear cleft. On the operation finding, when the primary focus of the cholesteatoma was in the attic, we observed two types of perforation, marginal and central perforation in the Shrapnell's portion, and retraction to the Prussak's space, bony defect on the Rivinus notch. Among 36 cases of the cholesteatoma, the perforation of the Shrapnell's portion are 5 cases. Bony defect on the Rivinus notch and marginal perforation on the posterosuperior quadrant of the Shrapnell's portion are 21 cases. Among these cases, 3 cases are combined with central perforation of the Shrapnell's portion. Conclusively, the reasons that cholesteatoma is favorable site in the attic: 1) Excretion of the inflammatory discharge in the attic is difficult because of the distance of the E-tube. 2) The Shrapnell's portion has less collagen fiber than the pars tensa and it is thin because the elastic fibers are rich in it. It is easy to retract within the Prussak's space to the cases of keratinizing hyperplasia. 3) The epidermis attached at the Rivinus notch of the superior portion on the Shrapnell's portion is invaginated through the destructed bony wall of the Rivinus notch and the margin of the tympanic membrane in the response to the keratinizing hyperplasia.
