The rheological properties of cement paste system mixed with mineral admixture for the purpose of increasing the strength and improving durability and rheology of concrete were investigated. The results were as follows: The rheological properties of one-ingredient paste system were improved with increasing the dosage of superplasticizer. For two-ingredients paste system, increasing the replacement rate of BFS(blast furnace slag) and FA(fly ash), the yield value and plastic viscosity were decreased compared with non-replacement. In the OPC(ordinary portland cement)-SF(silica fume) system, increasing the replacement rate of SF, the plastic viscosity and yield value increased linearly. In three-ingredients paste system, both OPC-BFS-SF and OPC-FA-SF system, the rheological properties were improved compared with the only replacement of SF. Both two- and three- ingredients paste system, the rheological properties using BFS were improved more than FA.
Autogenous shrinkage of concrete has been defined as decrease in volume due to hydration cement, not due to other causes such as evaporation, temperature change and external load and so on. For ordinary concretes, autogenous shrinkage is so little compared to the other deformations that it has been dignored. It has recently been proved, however, that autogenous shrinkage considerably increase with decrease in water to cement ratio. And it has been reported that cracking can be caused by autogenous shrinkage, when high- strength concretes were used. In this study, we propose an analytical system to represent autogenous shrinkage in cement paste in order to control crack due to autogenous shrinkage. The system is composed with the hydration model and pore structure model. Contrary to the usual assumption of uniform properties in the hydration progress, the hydration model to refine Tomosawa's represents the situation that inner and outer products are made in cement paste. The pore structure model is based upon the physical phenomenon of ion diffusion in cement paste and chemical phenomenon of hydration in cement particle. The proposed model can predict the pore volume ratio and the pore structure in cement paste under variable environmental conditions satisfactorily The autogenous shrinkage prdiction system with regard to pore structure development and hydration at early ages for different mix-proportions shows a reasonable agreement with the experimental data.
Basic properties of new cement pastes based on the system $CaO-Al_2O_3-P_O_5-H_2O$were studied Phosphoric acid solutions and calcium dialuminate clinkers synthesized by the hydration-burning method were used for liquid and powder components of the paste, respectively Variation in the compositions of the paste was achieved by changing the liquid/powder ratio and the concentration of phosphoric acid solution. The hardening rate of the paste was so largely affected by the amount of phosphoric acid that hardening was inhibited with the low-concentrated solution but was explosively accelerated with the high-concentrated solution. The phosphoric acid solutions of concentration of 45~50% and the liquid/powder ratio of 0.5~1.5 were favoured for the high early-strength cement paste with the reasonable hardening rate and high strength. The binding phase of hardened paste was the dense amorphous gel of the system $CaO-Al_2O_3-P_O_5-H_2O$. in which the unreacted calcium dialuminate grains were embeded.
The synergistic interactions of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) with ordinary portland cement (OPC) in multi-blended systems could enhance the mechanical and durability properties of concrete and increase the amount of cement that can be replaced. In this study, the characteristics of the hydration products as well as paste microstructure of blended cement containing 20% coal fly ash, 10% rice hull ash and 10% sugar mill lime sludge in quaternary blended system was investigated. Portlandite content, hydration products, compressive strength, pore size distribution and microstructural architecture of hydrated blended cement pastes were examined. The quaternary blended cement paste showed lower compressive strength, reduced amount of Portlandite phases, and higher porosity compared to plain hardened cement paste. The interaction of SCMs with OPC influenced the hydration products, resulting to the formation of ettringite and monocarboaluminate phases. The blended cement paste also showed extensive calcium silicate hydrates and calcium aluminate silicate hydrates but unrefined compared to plain cement paste. In overall, the expected synergistic reaction was significantly hindered due to the low quality of supplementary cementitious materials used. Hence, pre-treatments of SCMs must be considered to enhance their reactivity as good quality SCMs can become limited in the future.
Effects of the dosage change, from 0 to 2.0 wt% based on cement weight, of naphthalenic (NSF) and polycarboxylic(NT-2) superplasticizers, on the fluidity of cement paste substituted by 10 wt% II-anhydrite and fly ash respectively as well as II-anhydrite and fly ash itself were investigated. Dispersion properties between particles in suspension were investigated by zeta potential test. Initial fluidity and slump loss in the paste system were observed through mini-slump and apparent viscosity changes with elapsed time. Zeta potential on the particle surface was a tendency to increase according to increasing of NSF dosage. Especially, zeta potential of fly ash has the highest value among all particles equivalent to NSF dosage. In the fluidity of cement paste substituted by inorganic particles, the specimen with substitution of 10 wt% II-anhydrite and fly ash for cement was more effective than cement itself to improve initial fluidity and retain stable fluidity of cement paste. In addition, effect of NT-2 and NSF to improve the fluidity of cement paste, addition of 1.0 wt% NT-2 was more effective than 1.5wt% NSF.
In this study, the pore structure of Portland cement paste is experimentally characterized by MIP (mercury intrusion porosimetry) and nitrogen adsorption, and simulated by a newly developed status-oriented computer model. Cement pastes with w/c=0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 at ages from 1 day to 120 days are comprehensively investigated. It is found that MIP cannot generate valid pore size distribution curves for cement paste. Nevertheless, nitrogen adsorption can give much more realistic pore size distribution curves of small capillary pores, and these curves follow the same distribution mode. While, large capillary pores can be effectively characterized by the newly developed computer model, and the validity of this model has been proved by BSE imaging plus image analysis. Based on the experimental findings and numerical simulation, a hypothesis is proposed to explain the formation mechanism of the capillary pore system, and the realistic representation of the pore structure of hydrated cement paste is established.
This study was carried out in order to investigate the relationship roundness of fly ashes and fluidity of fly ash cement paste. electrostatic precipitator system in coal-fired power plant have many successive collection fields in the direction of flue gas travel. In experiment, the roundness of fly ashes collected from the same location had similar values regardless of the load or boiler, and they increased going from the 1st collection filed to third collection filed in the direction of gas movement. In considering the relation between roundness of fly ashes and fluidity of fly ash cement paste, it has a high correlation.

Optimization of concrete mixing system is very important for the production of quality mixture of concrete and requires very complicated, specialized knowledge as there are a variety of variables that influence the result. One of the methods of optimizing the concrete mixing system is to minimize the volume of cement paste which, in turn, means maximizing the volume of aggregate. The purpose of this study is to determine the minimum volume of cement paste used in the design of concrete mixture and to design the optimum concrete mixing system based on the fluidity of mortar and concrete. In determining the minimum volume of cement paste, experiments of mortar and concrete were performed based on their workability, material segregation and bleeding. Type of aggregate, granularity distribution and sand percentage were used as test parameters and measurements were taken of the distribution of granularity, usage of HRWRA, minimum volume of paste and drying shrinkage and compressive strength of concrete.
This paper researches the Chloride Binding of Cement Paste according to the Ca/Si and Ca/Al Ratio. The mechanisms of chloride ion binding are not completely known, although it is believed that Alumina contents in cementitious system have an important role. For changing cement paste composition, Ordinary Portland Cement(OPC) paste is substituted by Granulated Ground Blast Slag(GGBS). With increasing the ratio of GGBS substitution(Thus alumina contents is increasing), The chloride binding capacity has a tendency to increase of binding chloride ion capacity.
