폴리이미드 표면에서의 네마틱 액정의 틸트 제어를 이용한 High Tilted OCB(HTOCB) 모드 (A Hight Tilted OCB(HTOCB) Mode using Control of Tilt Angle for Hematic Liquid Crystal on Polyimide Surface)

  • In this paper, we have improved a novel high tilted optically compensated bend (OCB) (HTOCB) mode by using high tilt angle that was generated by the unique baking condition on the homeotropic alignment layer. The high tilt angle of liquid crystal (LC) was generated by new alignment process that tilt angle changed homeotropic state to homeogenous state using Hot-plate equipment; we obtained about $40\~50^{\circ}$ tilt angle with negative and positive dielectric anisotropy on the homeotropic polyimide (PI), and then LC tilt angle decreased as increasing baking temperature and time. At last, we obtained about $10^{\circ}$ with positive type NLC $({\Delta}n>0)$. Also, the LC tilt angle of positive type NLC $({\Delta}n>0)$ decreased as increasing rubbing strength at the same baking temperature and time. The novel LC operating mode (HTOCB) that used the high tilt angle by the new alignment method was improved. The response time of the novel HTOCB cell was faster than that of conventional OCB cell. We suggest that the developed the novel HTOCB cell using control of tilt angle on the homeotropic surface is a promising technique for the achievement of a fast response time and a high contrast ratio.

셀룰러 네트워크상의 간섭정렬을 위한 반복 알고리즘 (Iterative Algorithms for Interference Alignment in Cellular Network)

  • 본 논문에서는 셀룰러 네트워크상의 간섭정렬을 위한 송수신벡터를 구하는 반복 알고리즘들을 제안한다. 기존의 간섭채널상의 간섭정렬을 위해 고안된 반복 알고리즘을 셀룰러 네트워크에 적용하는 것이 물론 가능하지만, 높은 합용량을 달성하려면 큰 반복횟수가 필요하다. 본 논문에서 제안된 알고리즘의 핵심은 상향링크의 송신벡터 그리고 하향링크의 수신벡터를 갱신할 때 셀내간섭을 고려하지 않는다는 점이다. 모의실험은 간섭정렬을 위해 다중안테나와 단일 반송파가 사용되었을 때, 제안된 알고리즘이 기존의 알고리즘보다 주어진 반복횟수에서 월등히 높은 합용량을 달성함을 보인다. 또한 제안된 알고리즘이 간섭정렬을 위해 단일 안테나와 다중 부반송파가 사용되었을 때도 기존 간섭정렬 알고리즘보다 성능이 우수함을 보인다.

  • We have studied a novel vertical alignment liquid crystal cell. At initial state of a cell with rubbed parallel on top and bottom substrates, the vertically aligned LCs are twisted by $180^{\circ}$. However, after a critical voltage is applied to the cell, the configuration of the LC changes to optically compensated splay form, where the mid-director lies parallel to the substrate and thus the LC has two hybrid alignments around center.

  • We proposed a single gap transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) using a vertically aligned (VA) liquid crystal cell and circular polarizer. The conventional VA transflective LCDs have problems that there required several compensation films and voltage-dependent transmittance and reflectance curves do not match each other. To solve these problems, we used circular polarizer and optimized the condition of insulator thickness in the transmissive part and reflective part. Also, we used the patterned vertical alignment (PVA) mode for wide viewing angle in transmissive part. Consequently, this device realized transflective LCD with a single cell gap and single gamma curve.

Novel Technique for Splay to Bend Transition in a ${\pi}$ Cell

  • A ${\pi}$ cell is initially in splay state. Before driving a ${\pi}$ cell, transition from splay to bend state is always necessary which originates from nucleation. We propose a novel technique to make bend transition fast and effectively by forming transition cores around the pixels with the technique of multi-domain alignment, where domain boundaries play a crucial role in splay to bend transition. This noble technique enables the splay to bend transition to occur within less than 2 seconds with a low applied voltage.

  • We investigated new type non-robbing liquid crystal (LC) alignment techniques in the cell with slanted non-polarized ultraviolet (UV) irradiation on polyimide (Pl) film. It is shown that the uniform alignment for nematic (N) LC is obtained by using slanted non-polarized UV irradiation on Pl surface. We successfully obtained that the pretilt ang1e of NLC is generated about 3 degree in the LC cells by using slanted non-polarized UV irradiation with 70 degree on Pl surface. We consider that the pretilt angle generation for NLC is attributed to interaction between the LC molecular and the PI surface. We conclude that the uniform LC alignment is attributed to anisotropic dispersion force effect due to photo depolymerization of polymer on Pl surface.

  • Electrooptical (EO) characteristics of a new multidomain vertical-alignment (MVA) liquid crystal display (LCD) with negative dielectric anisotropy on a homeotropic photopolymer were studied. Good voltage-transmittance (V-T) curves of the new MVA-LCD on the homeotropic photopolymer were obtained. Also, the stable response time of the new MVA-LCD on the homeotropic photopolymer was achieved. The viewing angle of the new MVA-LCD could be improved by a crossed stripe grating-groove surface as the alignment layer using a photolithograph method on the photopolymer.

무기막 NiOx의 정렬 패턴 전사를 이용한 액정의 배향 특성 연구 (A Study on the Liquid Crystal Orientation Characteristics of the Inorganic NiOx Film with Aligned Nanopattern Using Imprinting Process)

  • We demonstrate an alignment technology using an imprinting process on an inorganic NiOx film. The aligned nanopattern was fabricated on a silicon wafer by laser interference lithography. The aligned nano pattern was then imprinted onto the sol-gel driven NiOx film using an imprinting process at an annealing temperature of $150^{\circ}C$. After the imprinting process, parallel grooves had been formed on the NiOx film. Atomic force microscopy and water contact angle measurements were performed to confirm the parallel groove on the NiOx film. The grooves caused liquid crystal alignment through geometric restriction, similar to grooves formed by the rubbing process on polyimide. The liquid crystal cell exhibited a pretilt angle of $0.2^{\circ}$, which demonstrated homogeneous alignment.

  • 비분산 적외선 방식에 의한 대기 중 일산화 탄소 측정용 검출기를 제작하고, 감도 및 안정성을 조사하였다. 검출 감도를 향상시키기 위하여 동일 흡수셀 내에 3개의 반사거울을 장착하여 셀 안에서의 빛의 통과거리가 증가되도록 설계하였다. 50cm 길이의 셀 안에서 빛의 통과거리를 16m까지 늘릴 수 있도록 컴퓨터 모사에 의해 반사거울의 곡률반경 및 곡률중심, 셀 안에서의 위치 등을 산출하여 셀을 제작하였다. 빛의 경로와 광학적 특성은 모의 셀 안에서 laser beam alignment에 의해 확인하였다. 투과광의 검출에는 광전도성 PbSe센서를 사용하였으며, 센서소자는 열전냉각방식에 의해 냉각하였다. 제작된 일산화 탄소 검출기의 검출한계와 스팬 드리프트는 각각 0.24ppm과 0.03ppm(v/v)이었다.

광감응성 4-Hydroxyazobenzene 박막의 액정 배향 (Liquid Crystal Alignment by Photoreactive 4-Hydroxyazobenzene Thin Film)

  • 광감응성 azobenzene 그룹이 분자의 주위 환경에 따라 광이성화 반응이 변화하는 것을 in-situ UV/Vis 분광 실험법과 광학 이방성 측정법을 이용하여 조사하였다. 4-Hyhoxyazobenzene을 포함하는 필름에 광조사함과 동시에 trans-isomer와 cis-isomer 특성 피크의 세기 변화를 측정하여 azobenzene 그룹의 가역적이며 반복적인 광이성화 반응을 알수 있었다. Azobenzene 자기조립체 박막이 입혀진 기판을 액정 셀의 배향막으로 사용하여 액정의 배향을 유도하였을 때, trans-azobenzene 그룹들이 조밀한 packing을 하며 기판에 수직으로 배열한 자기조립체 구조 때문에 액정 분자들도 수직 homeotropic 배향을 하였다. 이와 같은 자기조립체 박막의 액정 셀에 UV 빛을 노광하면 azobenzene그룹이 광이 성화 반응을 일으켜 cis-isomer로 변하게 되며, 이로 인해 액정의 배향이 수직에서 수평 planar 배향으로 변함을 알 수있었다.
