Recently, the number of ground subsidence resulting from underground cavity has been increased. Accordingly, the importance of restoration of stress release zone around the underground cavity has been emphasized. The stress release zone is composed of low density soils having extremely low stiffness and degree of compaction, which can lead to additional cavity expansion and collapse of overlying ground. Therefore, in this study, the suitability of restoration method of underground cavity using expansive material for reinforcement of stress release zone around the cavity is verified. The basic physical properties and expansion characteristics of the expansive material were examined. The experiment equipment capable simulating of stress release zone was developed and is used to investigate the effect of expanding material on stress release zone. The stress release zone was simulated using the spring in numerical analysis. The factors of the volume ratio of the underground cavity to the expansion material, the degree of stress relaxation, and the shape of the cavity were varied in numerical simulations, and the behavior of stress release zone was analyzed based on the numerical analysis results. Analysis variables are factors that affect each other. Also, filling of underground cavity and capacity of restoration of stress release zone were confirmed when the expansive material was inserted into underground cavity.
Condition indices (Cl) are considered to be useful measurements of the nutritive and health status of bivalves although studies on Cl of bivalves are limited due to the lack of a standard formula for calculating Cl. This study attempts to generate Cl of the mussel, Mytilus coruscus inhabiting along the coastal area of Chuja Island in Cheju using three primary formulas. the formulas used in this study: (1) Cl-vol= [tissue dry weight (g) 1000] /shell cavity volume (ml). (2) Cl-wt= [tissue dry weight (g) 1000] / internal shell cavity capacity (g). (3) Cl-size= tissue wet weight (g)/[shell length (mm)]$\^$3/. Monthly condition indices calculated with the three formulas are compared using ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test and Pearson correlation coefficient. In Chuja Island M. coruscus collected ranged from 50 to 180 mm in shell length. Monthly ranges of Cl-values were 67.48 to 140.61 (Cl-vol), 74.67 to 118.02 (Cl-wt) and 1.4 10$\^$-5) to 1.6 10$\^$-5/ (Cl-size). Cl-vol values in August were higher than two Cl-values in the other months. Monthly Cl-vol was significantly different from Cl-wt and Cl-size. (p<0.05). The results of this study suggest that volumetric condition index (Cl-vol) used in this study is acceptable as a standard measure to evaluate conditions of M. coruscus.
Background & Objectives : Nasal resistance which is halfly responsible for airway resistance is known to be influenced by hypoxia, hypercapnia, exercise, pregnancy, alcohol, ammonia and smoking. Smoking is a common part of our sociocultural environment and we have many a times been introduced to its various adverse effects, which have usually been more focused on lung problems. The purpose of this study is to determine any relationship between smoking and nasal resistance and to evaluate it's effective sites. Materials and Methods : Acoustic rhinometry was performed in 25 smokers and 25 nonsmokers who had no nasal symptoms nor abnormal rhinoscopic findings, and used an acoustic rhinometry to measure the distance from nose-piece to the C-notch, cross sectional area at the C-notch, and volume of the nasal cavity from nose-piece to 7cm. The authors compared the data between the two groups. Results : The cross sectional area at the C-notch was significantly decreased(p<0.05) in smoking group. The distance to the C-notch and the volume of nasal cavity were decreased likely in smoking group but there were no significant difference(p>0.05). Conclusion : Smoking reduced the cross sectional area at the C-notch, so increased the nasal resistance. The underlying mechanisms seems to be decreased nasal mucosal reactivity and congestion of the nasal mucosa. The authors believe there should follow more studies on pathophysiologic mechanisms and the histopathologic changes which involve the effect of smoking on nasal structures.
In this paper, we propose a text-independent speaker identification algorithm based on VQ(vector quantization) and vowel classification, and its performance is studied and compared with that of a conventional speaker identification algorithm using VQ. The proposed speaker identification algorithm is composed of three processes: vowel segmentation, vowel recognition and average distortion calculation. The vowel segmentation is performed automatlcally using RMS energy, BTR(Back-to-Total cavity volume Ratio)and SFBR(Signed Front-to-Back maximum area Ratio) extracted from input speech signal. If the Input speech signal Is noisy, particularity when the SNR is around 20dB, the proposed speaker identification algorithm performs better than the reference speaker identification algorithm when the correct vowel segmentation is done. The same result is obtained when we use the noisy telephone speech signal as an input, too.

Acoustic design parameters of a Helmholtz resonator are studied experimentally and numerically for acoustic stability in a model acoustic tube. According to standard acoustic-test procedures, acoustic-pressure signals are measured. Quantitative acoustic properties of sound absorption coefficient are evaluated and thereby, the acoustic damping capacity of the resonator is characterized. Helmholtz resonator on spring-damper system use were understanding for acoustic damping. The length of orifice and the volume of cavity of resonator are selected as design parameters for tuning of the resonator. Acoustic- damping capacity of the resonator increases with its cavity volume. And orifice length as increases with acoustic damping capacity was decreased.
Intraperitoneal administration of radioisotopes is suggested to treat the metastatic ovarian cancer in the peritoneal cavity. Administering beta-emitting radioisotopes into the peritoneal cavity allows the maximum energy delivery to the cancerous cells of the peritoneal wall surface while sparing the normal cells located in deep site of the peritoneal wall. In this study, dose estimates of the peritoneal wall are provided to be used for prescribing the amount of $^{166}Ho$-chitosan complex administered. The $^{166}Ho$-chitosan complex diffused in the peritoneal fluid may attach to the peritoneal wall surface. The attachment fraction of $^{166}Ho$-chitosan complex to the peritoneal wall surface is obtained by simulating the ascites with Fischer rats. Both volume source in the peritoneal fluid and the surface source over the peritoneal wall surface are counted for the contribution to the peritoneal wall dose. The Monte Carlo code EGS4 is used to simulate the energy transfer of the beta particles emitted from $^{166}Ho$. A plane geometrical model of semi-infinite volume describes the peritoneal cavity and the peritoneal wall. A semi-infinite plane of $10{\mu}m$ in thickness at every 1 mm of depth in the peritoneal wall is taken as the target in dose estimation. Greater than 98 percents of attachment fraction has been observed from the experiments with Fischer rats. Given $1.3{\mu}Ci/cm^2$ and $2.4{\mu}Ci/ml$ of uniform activity density, absorbed dose is 123 Gy, 8.59 Gy, 3.00 Gy, 1.03 Gy, and .327 Gy at 0 mm, 1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm, and 4 mm in depth to the peritoneal wall, respectively.
As an alternative for solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, we present a vorticity-based integro-differential formulation for vorticity, velocity and pressure variables. One of the most difficult problems encountered in the vorticity-based methods is the introduction of the proper value-value of vorticity or vorticity flux at the solid surface. A practical computational technique toward solving this problem is presented in connection with the coupling between the vorticity and the pressure boundary conditions. Numerical schemes based on an iterative procedure are employed to solve the governing equations with the boundary conditions for the three variables. A finite volume method is implemented to integrate the vorticity transport equation with the dynamic vorticity boundary condition . The velocity field is obtained by using the Biot-Savart integral derived from the mathematical vector identity. Green's scalar identity is used to solve the total pressure in an integral approach similar to the surface panel methods which have been well-established for potential flow analysis. The calculated results with the present mettled for two test problems are compared with data from the literature in order for its validation. The first test problem is one for the two-dimensional square cavity flow driven by shear on the top lid. Two cases are considered here: (i) one driven both by the specified non-uniform shear on the top lid and by the specified body forces acting through the cavity region, for which we find the exact solution, and (ii) one of the classical type (i.e., driven only by uniform shear). Secondly, the present mettled is applied to deal with the early development of the flow around an impulsively started circular cylinder.
Insufficient reinforcement for maximizing payability and benefits in mining cavities causes subsidence problems and it threatens residents' lives and properties. So many reinforcement management methods are developed and now various methods are being applied in the field. Among them, a filling method which sends reinforcement materials in the cavities is used extensively. However, domestic geological condition and coal mining methods are so complicate that make many steep cavities. Because of those problems, it is difficult to apply foreign methods directly, which is valid for horizontal cavities. In this study, the injection volume of quick setting grouting material which is developed for filling cavities in domestic condition and the shape of consolidated bodies are investigated. And a programming method for estimating proper injection amounts of filling materials is proposed. The results are verified by numerical analysis using UDEC.
Background: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most commonly occurring malignant tumor in the oral cavity. In South Korea, it occurs most frequently in the mandible, tongue, maxilla, buccal mucosa, other areas of the oral cavity, and lips. Radial forearm free flap (RFFF) is the most widely used reconstruction method for the buccal mucosal defect. The scar of the forearm donor, however, is highly visible and unsightly, and a secondary surgical site is needed when such technique is applied. For these reasons, buccal fat pad (BFP) flap has been commonly used for closing post-surgical excision sites since the recent decades because of its reliability, ease of harvest, and low complication rate. Case presentation: In the case reported herein, BFP flap was used to reconstruct a cheek mucosal defect after excision. The defect was completely covered by the BFP flap, without any complications. Conclusion: Discussed herein is the usefulness of BFP flap for the repair of the cheek mucosal defect. Also, further studies are needed to determine the possibility of using BFP flap when the defect is deep, and the maximum volume that can be harvested considering the changes in volume with age.

We experienced tracheobronchial stenosis caused by malrotation of the heart in a 3-year-old girl. Malrotation of the heart is induced by the decreased right lung volume, which was the result of right lung hypoplasia and herniation of the left thoracic cavity. We corrected the right lung volume and location of the heart to treat tracheobronchial stenosis.
