Objectives A case report is a detailed medical description of previously unreported observations or complications of medical conditions, unique use cases of tests, or new side effects. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of case reports published in the Journal of Korea CHUNA Manual Medicine for Spine & Nerves (JKCMSN). Methods Case reports published in the JKCMSN from January 2013 to December 2020 were selected using the Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System (OASIS). The quality of the reports was assessed based on the Consensus-based Clinical Case Reporting Guideline Development (CARE) guidelines. Results Sixty case reports that met the inclusion criteria were included in the assessment. Our analysis revealed that 71.42% of the case reports included all the necessary information and their level of reporting was good. However, their scores in the qualitative subdivisions of the reporting level parameters showed that the quality level was uneven. More than 65% of the papers did not report in the following categories: "Keywords," "Patient information," "Timeline," "Diagnostic assessment," "Therapeutic interventions," "Follow-up and outcomes," "Patient perspective," and "Informed consent." Conclusions Our analysis shows that CARE guidelines need to be followed more rigorously to improve the quality of reporting in the JKCMSN. Further efforts are necessary to develop reporting guidelines and evaluation tools relevant to the Korean clinical context.

Objectives : The purpose of this case report is to report the effect of Daesiho-tang on adult acne by Shanghanlun provisions with extrusion therapy. Methods : According to diagnostic system based on Shanghanlun provisions, the patient was diagnosed with Taeyang-byung Gyeolhyung and treated by Daesiho-tang with extrusion therapy. The result of administrations were evaluated by Korean Acne Grading System(KAGS), Korean Skindex-29, and change of clinical symptoms. Results : After administration of Daesiho-tang for 150 days with weelky extrusion therapy, KAGS improved from grade 4 to grade 1, Skindex-29 improved from 67.93 to 15.51, and patient was very satisfied with the treatment. No serius treatment-related adverse events were reported. Limitations : This case is only one case that the level of evidence is weak. Two interventions were used together and the duration of photo was uneven. Conclusions : The patient almost recovered from acne treated by Daesiho-tang according to diagnostic system based on Shanghanlun provisions with extrusion therapy. This is the first case report that suggests '熱結在裏' on the number 136 provision of Shanghanlun means fever that is always present in chronic skin lesions.

Out of all oral malignant tumor, malignant lymphoma occurs in only 3.5%. Especially, most of the primary malignant lymphomas, which occur in the head & neck region are high-grade diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) marginal zone B-cell lymphoma is very rare. In the head & neck region, malignant lymphoma is reported to occur in the thyroid, salivary gland, trachea, larynx, orbital lobe and the Waldeyer's ring. Among the Waldeyer's ring, palatal tonsil is reported to be the most common region, but, only 1 case report was published in Korea. Until now, there were no case reports of MALT lymphoma that occurred in the tongue. The purpose of this case report is to report and discuss on a case of MALT lymphoma of the tongue.

Penetrating chest trauma may result in significant intracardiac injury. A traumatic ventricular septal defect is a rare complication that requires surgical management, particularly if heart failure ensues. We report a case of delayed repair of an outlet-type ventricular septal defect and perforation of the aortic and pulmonary valve leaflets following a stab wound. This report highlights diagnostic and surgical considerations and also presents an opportunity to review the conotruncal anatomy, which may be relatively unfamiliar to many adult cardiac surgeons.

Intraneural ganglilon of superficial peroneal nerve was rare condition around foot and ankle. we experienced a case of recurred intraneural ganglion of superficial peroneal nerve on foot. We treated the case with idendify of intraarticular branch of ganglion. We report the case with a review of literature.

This study was aimed to review the trend of case reports of neuropsychiatry disease. The case reports were collected by retrieving Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry and analyzing period were from 1990 to 2010. We analyzed them for publish year, research institution, patients, sorts of diseases, pattern identification diagnosis, instrument, treatment period, sorts of treatments, and treatment with western medicine. We analyzed 142 case reports and there were many kinds of neuropsychiatry diseases and instruments that were evaluated the process. The reserchers used various treatment with oriental medicine. However, the number of case reports have decreased since the year of 2008. Most of the research institutions were university and general oriental medical hospital and the portion of private hospitals was only 2.11%. For the development of practical clinical trial of oriental medicine, we needs more qualifying case report. We hope more reserchers for psychiatry disease of oriental medicine will be interested in the publication of case report and this will serve to produce advance of oriental medicine.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to assess Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) doctors' awareness and utilization of the case report, based on the opinion that careful observation on the case sometimes provides us with the important information as clinical trial especially in the traditional medicine research field. Methods : A questionnaire study was conducted among TKM doctors who participated in the annual continuous maintenance education (CME) held at 5 regions of the Republic of Korea. Results : Almost 60% of the respondents had read case reports published in medical journals and 67% had openly shared their clinical cases with their colleagues. Of the respondents, 18.6% had been educated on reporting cases, and only 16% had the experience of reporting cases on one's own. However, 32.6% of the respondents had the intention to report cases in the future. These results show significant differences between general physicians who holds a license but no hospital training experience and board certified TKM doctors who have training experience. Conclusions : A majority of TKM doctors have read case reports but holds little experience of having been properly trained. Through this research, it has been found that awareness of case reports is rising in hospital training. Thus, the objective of case report education for TKM doctors who have hospital training experience should be set on encouraging them to do more whereas for doctors without hospital training experience, the objective should be set on making them more exposed to case reports to heighten one's awareness.

Brodie abscess is a localized form of chronic or subacute osteomyelitis that occurs most often in the long bones of the lower extremities of young adults. Involvement of the flat or small bones is less common. And there is no report of Brodie abscess which has two different lesion. We report a case of Brodie abscess of talus and distal tibia.

Impaction of third molar is a common developmental abnormality. However, ectopic impaction of the mandibular third molar in condylar region is an extremely rare condition. This report describes a case of impacted tooth in the mandibular condyle without any associated pathologic condition. Also, this report presents the spatial relationship of the impacted mandibular third molar to the surrounding anatomic structures using cone beam computed tomography.

We report an unusual case of respiratory depression and prolonged apnea after the second dose of 100-mg intravenous tramadol. Due to continuous pain at foley catheter keep site, intravenous tramadol was administered to the patient. Soon after the second dose of tramadol injection, the patient became apneic. The patient did not respond to verbal command and started exhibiting oxygen desaturation. The patient was quickly treated with 100% oxygen, and it took 4 hours for the spontaneous respiration to return to regular. This case report demonstrates that even two doses of tramadol administered intravenously may manifest as sudden and prolonged apnea. Respiratory depression with tramadol has been reported in patients with impaired renal functions and Cytochrome P(CYP) 2D6 gene duplication.
