  • For this study, from July to December in 1975, the total of 160 samples of packaged ice creams(75 samples of carton, 50 samples of cone, and 35 samples of bar), manufactued by five different plants, were collected at markets in Seoul city area. And the chemical composition and microbial quality of those were analyzed and compared with each other samples. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The average milk fat contents of ice cream samples were 6.28% in carton, 6.42% in cone and 4.94% in bar. 2. The average total solid contents of ice cream samples were 33.45% in carton, 34.22% in cone and 29.46% in bar. 3. The average total protein contents of ice cream samples were 3.45% in carton, 3.16% in cone and 2.42% in bar. 4. The average milk solids-not-fat contents of ice cream samples were 10.46% in carton, 8.52% in cone and 7.72% in bar. 5. The average milk lactose contents of ice cream samples were 6.42% in carton, 5.57% in cone and 4.94% in bar. 6. The average crude ash contents of ice cream samples were 0.86% in carton, 0.78% in cone and 0.67% in bar. 7. The average Reichert-Meissl values of ice cream samples were 28.82 in carton, 27.85 in cone and 25.97 in bar. 8. In the both experiments of standard plate count and coliform count, the samples of ice cream in cone and carton showed lesser numbers than those in the form of bars. Of a total 160 samples examined, 6 samples gave standard plate counts of over 40,000/ml and 14 samples gave coliform counts of over 10/ml.

  • Pressure drop, as a function of air flow, was measured for tomatoes and mandarins in bulk with different sizes, stacking arrangements and bed porosities. Pressure drop was also measured on carton vent holes and on a carton of packed fruits . and the cumulative effects of air flow resistance of vent holes and packed fruits in bulk on the air flow resistance of a carton of fruits were evaluated . Equation were presented to describe pressure drop bulk fruits, of an empty carton and of a carton of packed fruits as related to the air velocity , the bed porosity, the fruit diameter and the opening ratio of the vent hole.

  • The carton for liquid products are divided into 'gable top carton' and 'aseptic carton'. Currently, these packages are being recycled in the toilet tissue manufacturing process. The recycling of the carton aluminium laminate is the most important problem facing the recycling procedure of the carton packages due to the reduction in quality of recycled materials. The polymer structure with synthetic resins being used mainly in beverage packaging is also one of the important factors for the procedure for its recycling. The objective of this study was to investigate the package material and structure of the carton for liquid products through marketing research and suggest the supplementation in the work processes of production, use, and recycling. The results represent to improve the recycling profit and the quality of recycled materials when a laminated aluminium of carton for liquid products is replaced to the transparent polymer film. The improvement of the sorting and recycling process may help their recycling efficiencies. In addition, the limited use of synthetic resin molded packaging and increase of wood-pulp collection rate will provide the improvement of the recycling profit and the quality of recycled materials.

  • Carton clamp truck is widely perceived as the high-efficient handling equipment of factory premises and warehouse by its capability of palletless handling. Therefore, the significance of a lab-based handling simulation is becoming higher with the growth of clamp truck usage. In this study, preliminary FEA and design of handling test courses for the lab-based simulation of carton clamp truck handling were performed, and the PSD analyses were performed for the modified one for the test course proposed by Park et al. (2017) as well as ASTM D 6055 and ISTA 3B standards. For the vibration in all directions, the vibration energy intensity analyzed by ISTA 3B standard showed higher than that by the other two cases. A FEA was performed for the handling operation of the sudden stop of the clamps after lifting the target HCP (heavyweight refrigerator corrugated package, w=180 kgf) up to the specified height. The slip distance between the clamp arm and the target HCP was 0.85 mm. The simulation result of 0.85 mm was 3.7 times lower than the experimental result (3.2 mm) obtained by Park et al. (2017), and it was estimated that the deviation comes from both the experimental error by weight imbalance of target HCP, and excessive simplification during the FE modelling of target HCP.
