The diffusion coefficient of C.I. Disperse Red 4 in the dyeing of carrier-pretreated poly (ethylene terephthalate) film was Investigated by Sekido's film-rolled method. From the result it was shown that the diffusion coefficient increases exponentially with the content-ration of carrier in the film, and, for the films containing same concentration of carrier, the carrier effect was enhanced with the molar volume of the carriers. The greater carrier effect was accompanied by the decrease in diffusion activation energy and entropy, which shows that the carrier with larger molar volume plasticizes PET film to more extent.
This paper discussed the shape effect of ceramic support carrier in order to facilitate biomass immobilization. The shape of ceramic support carrier was modified hollow pipe type into hollow gear type. After seeding, microorganisms were attached in crevices where protection from shear forces or surfaces where easy to contact with support carrier surface. In case of hollow gear type carrier, initial attachment rate was faster than that of hollow pipe type and obtained thick biofilm. Synthetic wastewater(COD:75~880 mg/L, organic loading rate:0.36~4.22 kgCOD/㎥.d) was treated aerobic fixed bed biofilm reactor where 100% of the volume was filled with the ceramic carrier. COD removal efficiency of reactor filled with gear type support carrier was a little high withing 70 days, and then showed similar removal efficiency. It was found that highly loaded operation with up to 4.22 kgCOD/㎥.d was possible in both reactor. Total biomass amounts of pipe type was higher than gear type, however, attached biomass of gear type was higher than that of pipe type.
The effects of radial heat and $H_2O$ diffusion on the evolution of silica particles in coflow diffusion flames have been studied experimentally. The evolution of silica aggregate particles in coflow diffusion flames has been measured experimentally using light scattering and thermophoretic sampling techniques. The measurements of scattering cross section from $90^{\circ}$ light scattering have been utilized to calculate the aggregate number density and volume fraction using with combination of measuring the particle size and morphology through the localized sampling and a TEM image analysis. Aggregate or particle number densities and volume fractions were calculated using Rayleigh-Debye-Gans and Mie theory for fractal aggregates and spherical particles, respectively. Flame temperatures and volumetric differential scattering cross sections have been measured for different flame conditions such as inert gas species, $H_2$ flow rates, and burner injection configurations to examine the relation between the formation of particles and radial $H_2O$ diffusion. The comparisons of oxidation and flame hydrolysis have also been made for various $H_2$ flow rates using $N_2$ or $O_2$ as a carrier gas. Results indicate that the role of oxidation becomes dominant as both carrier gas($O_2$) and $H_2$ flow rates increases since the radial heat diffusion precedes $H_2O$ diffusion in coflow flames used in this study. The effect of carrier gas flow rates on the evolution of silica particles have also been studied. When using $N_2$ as a carrier gas, the particle volume fraction has a maximum at a certain carrier gas flow rate and as the flow rate is further increased, the hydrolysis reaction Is delayed and the spherical particles finally evolves into fractal aggregates due to decreased flame temperature and residence time.
Emulsion Liquid Membrane (ELM) is a prominent technique for the separation of heavy metal ions from wastewater due to the fast extraction and is a single-stage operation of stripping-extraction. The selection of the components (Surfactant and Carrier) of ELM is a very significant step for its preparation. In the ELM technique, the primary water- in-oil (W/O) emulsion is emulsified in water to produce water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) emulsion. The water in oil emulsion was prepared by mixing the membrane phase and internal phase. To prepare the membrane phase, the extractant D2EHPA (di-2-ethylhexylphosphoric acid) was used as a mobile carrier, Span-80 as a surfactant, and Paraffin as a diluent. Moreover, the internal (receiving) phase was prepared by dissolving sulphuric acid in water. Di-(2- ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid such as surfactant concentration, carrier concentration, sulphuric acid concentration in the receiving (internal) phase, agitation time (emulsion phase and feed phase), the volume ratio of the membrane phase to the receiving phase, the volume ratio of the external feed phase to the primary water-in-oil emulsion and pH of feed were studied on the percentage extraction of metal ions at 20℃. The results show that it is possible to remove 78% for As(V), 98% for Cd(II), and 99% for Pb(II). Simultaneous removal of ternary gases of $NH_3$, $H_2S$ and toluene in a contaminated air stream was investigated over 180 days in a biofilter. A commercially available inorganic/polymeric composite chip with a large void volume (bed porosity > 0.80) was used as a microbial support. Multiple microorganisms including Nitrosomonas and Nitrobactor for nitrogen removal, Thiobacillus thioparus (ATCC 23645) for $H_2S$ removal and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 15692), Pseudomonas putida (ATCC 17484) and Pseudomonas putida (ATCC 23973) for toluene removal were used simultaneously. The empty bed residence time (EBRT) ranged from 60 - 120 seconds and the inlet feed concentration was $0.0325\;g/m^3-0.0651\;g/m^3$ for $NH_3$, $0.0636\;g/m^3-0.141\;g/m^3$ for $H_2S$, and $0.0918\;g/m^3-0.383\;g/m^3$ for toluene, respectively. The observed removal efficiency was 2% - 98% for $NH_3$, 2% - 100% for $H^2S$, and 2% - 80% for toluene, respectively. Maximum elimination capacity was about $2.7\;g/m^3$/hr for $NH_3$, > $6.4\;g/m^3$/hr for $H_2S$ and $4.0\;g/m^3$/hr for toluene, respectively. The inorganic/polymeric composite carrier required 40 - 80 days of wetting time for biofilm formation due to the hydrophobic nature of the carrier. Once the surface of the carrier was completely wetted, the microbial activity became stable. During the long-term operation, pressure drop was negligible because the void volume of the carrier was two times higher than the conventional packing materials.

Purpose: The carrier for the delivery of bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs) should also serve as a scaffold for new bone growth. In addition, predictable bone formation in terms of the volume and shape should be guaranteed. This study evaluated the ectopic bone formation of recombinant human BMP-2(rhBMP-2) using a micro macroporous biphasic calcium phosphate (MBCP: mixture of ${\beta}TCP$ and HA) block as a carrier in a rat subcutaneous assay model. Materials and Methods: Subcutaneous pockets were created on the back of 40 male Sprague-Dawley rats. In the pockets, rhBMP-2/MBCP and MBCP alone were implanted. The blocks were evaluated by histological and histometric parameters after a healing interval of 2 weeks (each 10 rats; MBCP and rhBMP-2/MBCP) or 8 weeks (each 10 rats; MBCP and rhBMP-2/MBCP). Results: The shape and volume of the block was maintained stable over the healing period. No histological bone forming activity was observed in the MBCP alone sites after 2 weeks and there was minimal new bone formation at 8 weeks. In the rhBMP-2/MBCP sites, new bone formation was evident in the macropores of the block. The new bone area at 8 weeks was greater than at 2 weeks. There was a further increase in the quantity of new bone with the more advanced stage of remodeling. Conclusions: A MBCP block could serve as a carrier system for predictable bone tissue engineering using rhBMPs.
Since 1979, the People's Republic of China has been opeining their marke tprogressively toward all over the world for developing its own domestic economy and international trade. China also has paid a great attention to the international maritime transport due to the fact that its volume of international trade has increased continuoulsy. Under such circumstance, the Chinese Maritime Code was issued in 1992 in which the regulation with regard to carrier's liability occupied an important position. The author, therefore, selected this issue for demonstration of the legal proinciples about carrier's liability which is provided in the Chinese Maritime Code. The study on the issue is under guidance of related international conventions. On the basis of the above, the differences between the Code and relevant conventions have been pointed out in order to make the people in the field of shipping understood for legal system with regard to carrier's liability in China which is a great potential partner of Korea in shipping and trade.
Distribution volume (Vd$_{ss}$ ) of a model basic drug, tetraethylammonium bromide (TEA) at a steady-state decreased sinificantly in glycerol and uranium-renal failure rats. Assuming carrier-mediated transport of TEA into tissues, the theoretical $Vd_{ss}$ of TEA decreases in an exponential way as the plasmal concentration of TEA increases. The relationship between $Vd_{ss}$ and plasma concentration of TEA in the experimental renal failure (ERF)-rats was similar. Therefore, the decrease in $Vd_{ss}$ of TEA in the ERF-rats seemed to be due to the saturation of the carrier system that are responsible for the tissue distribution of TEA, by the elevated plasma concentration of TEA in the ERF-rats. ERF was induced to rats with glycerol, folate, salicylate, uranium and gentamicin, respectively..
A study was made to investigate the effects of concerning factors with IGF-I recovery on the final IGF-I concentration in the effluent and to establish recovery conditions of IGF-I using liquid emulsion membranes(LEM). D2EHPA was best carrier among Amberlite LA2, Aliquit 336 and D2EHPA for recovery rate of IGF-I. Recovery rate of IGF-I by D2EHPA volume in the oil phase was increased as increasing D2EHPA volume, and optimal volume of D2EHPA was 5% in this experiment. The recovery rate of IGF-I by D2EHPA was increased by the decreasing from pH 7 to pH 4 of external phase. Therefore, optimal pH value was 4.0. Optimal concentrations of sulfuric acid in internal phase, paraffin oil in oil phase and Span 80 for recovery rate of IGF-I were 0.1M, 2.0% and 5%, respectively, and optimal W/O rate was 2. These results suggested that optimal conditions for recovery of IGF-I were D2EHPA(5%) as carrier, pH 4.0, 0.1M sulfuric acid, 2% paraffin oil, 2.0 W/O rate and 5.0% Span 80.

As the LNG carrier operates in ice covered waters, it is key to ensure the overall safety, which is related to the coupling effect of ice-breaking process and internal liquid sloshing. This paper focuses on the sloshing simulation of the ice-breaking LNG carrier, and the numerical method is proposed using Circumferential Crack Method (CCM) and Volume of Vluid (VOF) with two main key factors (velocity νx and force Fx). The ship motion analysis is carried out by CCM when the ship navigates in the ice-covered waters with a constant propulsion power. The velocity νx is gained, which is the initial excitation condition for the calculation of internal sloshing force Fx. Then, the ship motion is modified based on iterative computations under the union action of ice-breaking force and liquid sloshing load. The sloshing simulation under the LNG tank is studied with the modified ship motion. Moreover, an ice-breaking LNG ship with three-leaf type tank is used for case study. The internal LNG sloshing is simulated with three different liquid heights, including free surface shape and sloshing pressure distribution at a given moment, pressure curves at monitoring points on the bulkhead. This present method is effective to solve the sloshing simulation during ice-breaking process, which could be a good reference for the design of the polar ice-breaking LNG carrier.
