  • A 60-year-old male was admitted to our hospital complaining of general weakness. Chest radiography showed lung mass on left lower lobe. After left lower lobectomy and mediastinal lymph node dissection, The mass was pathologically diagnosed as large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma. Pulmonary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma is rare. Herein we report a case of large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma in lung.

  • Since the upper lip does not receive direct actinic radiation, only 5% of lip tumors develop in the upper lip, while the lower lip is the site of the remainder. Among the lower lip cancer, squamous cell carcinoma is the most common tumor, especially the vermillion border of lower lip is the most common site. The aims of reconstruction of the lip are both aesthetic effect and functional restoration and the ideal procedure must produce a aesthetically normal, not-tao-tight lip and a good sensation and muscle tone of the lip. We have a satisfactory reconstruction of a subtotal loss of lower lip after squamous cell carcinoma extirpation using Gillies fan flap and the case is presented with reviewing a many published reports.

  • Primary small cell carcinoma of urinary bladder is a rare but aggressive disease with poor prognosis and a high mortality rate. It accounts for less than 1 % of all the primary cancers seen in the urinary bladder. Diagnosis and management of this entity poses a challenge to the clinician due to the lack of a standardized protocol for its treatment. Herein we discuss primary small cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder in its entirety.

  • Squamous cell carcinoma, which is a common primary head and neck malignant neoplasm that is usually restricted to the mucosal surfaces of the upper aerodigestive tract and skin, is very unusual in the major salivary gland. Among them, few cases are regarded as primary carcinomas. In this article, we present two cases of squamous cell carcinoma in the parotid gland, who first presented with painful mass on infraauricular area.

  • Two cases of stomach mass and one case of tongue mass were observed in Japanese monkeys(Macaca fuscata) which were raised in Yong-in Farm Land. Histologically, two spontaneous tumors were found in the cardiac region of the stomach and were diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma. These tumors had invaded the submucosa, muscular layer and serosa, but metastasis was not found in the other tissues including the lymph node. One spontaneous tongue mass was diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma.

  • Small cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder is a rare tumor which occurs in about 0.48 % of all bladder tumors. We report cytologic features of small cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder in a 66-year-old man who had painless total gross hematuria, which was confirmed by partial cystectomy. In urine cytology, abundant tumor cells appeared in scattered and clustered forms in a bloody background. The tumor cells were small and uniform in size with a high nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio. The nuclei of the tumor cells were hyperchromatic, characteristically molded and showed inconspicuous nucleoli. The cytoplasms were scanty and pale blue.

  • Two 53-day-old broiler chickens were condemned due to multiple cutaneous nodular masses at slaughter house. Grossly, variable sized round masses were scattered in the abdomen and pelvis. Some of them were large and fused each other. Center of large fused nodules were ulcerated. Histopathologically, tumor masses consisted of multiple cords or masses of epidermal cells. Some of \ulcornerem contained central conoentric lamella of keratin (cancer pearl). From these results, these cases were diagnosed as cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. This is the first report of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma occurred in broiler chickens in Korea.

  • A bitch was presented for investigation of the mass in left 5th mammary gland. The partial mastectomy was performed and submitted for the histopathological diagnosis. The mammary mass was firm and white colored. The cut surface was separated with several lobules and developed vessels. The central area of the mass formed the cavity filled with inflammatory exudates. The dominant component of the tumor was the bundles of spindle-shaped cells. Some tumor cells possessed atypical nuclei and were arranged in a solid nest. Cysts were microscopically composed of hemorrhage, necrosis, and exudates, partially surrounded by tumor cells and granulation tissues. Histopathologically, the mammary mass revealed spindle cell carcinoma. The bitch made a complete recovery following the mastectomy. This case was a rare mammary spindle cell carcinoma in a dog.

  • Glypican-3 (GPC3) is a member of the glypican family, which encodes cell-surface heparan-sulfate proteoglycans, and is frequently upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We have recently reported that blocking endogenous GPC3 expression promotes the growth of HCC cell lines, suggesting that GPC3 plays a negative role in HCC cell proliferation. Here, we report that forced expression of GPC3 reduced the growth of HCC cells. We also found that FGF2-mediated cell proliferation was inhibited by GPC3. In addition, we observed that the adhesion of HCC cells to collagen type I and fibronectin was decreased by GPC3, whereas cellular migration and invasiveness were stimulated. Collectively, these results suggest that progression of hepatocellular carcinoma is associated with upregulation of GPC3.
