  • This study was carried out to investigate mechanical properties o major part for agricultural machinery in Korea. The results are as follows ; 1. The mechanical Properties for heat resisting steel bars, alumium alloy castings, carbon steel for machine structural use, chromium molybdenum steels, high strength brass castings and carbon tool steels are proper for Korean standard. 2. The mechanical properties fir spring steels used to mould board, share of plow and blade of rotary are not suitable to Korean standard. Ⅰ think that a counterplan for quality rising is necessary such as supply of good quality materials and improvement of new materials in Korean agricultural machinery.

  • The behavior of the burn-on in sand mold has been investigated by varying the pouring metal, bonding materials, additive materials and molding sand. The results obtained from thease experiments are as follows; 1) The burn-on layer of silica sand decreased in order of carbon steel, gray cast iron and stainless steel, and thease burn layer proceeded mostly by producing FeO. 2) The burning reaction of silica sand mold in carbon steel castings declined with increasingly bentonite content, but water-glass scarcely took part in the burn-on reaction. 3) The addition of feldspar and seacoal to silica sand promoted the inhibiting burn-on. 4) The burn-on layer of sand mold decreased of silica sand, chromite sand and olivine sand.

  • The microstructure of a high-carbon and high-chromium cast steel (HK700) for cold-work die inserts was analyzed by advanced scanning electron microscopy. A continuous network of primary $M_7C_3$ carbide was developed among austenitic matrix after casting. A small amount of $M_2C$ was added to the carbide network owing to the enrichment of Mo and W during the solidification. After quenching in which the austenitization was performed at $1030^{\circ}C$ and double tempering at $520^{\circ}C$, the network structure of $M_7C_3$ was preserved while most of the matrix was transformed to martensite because of additional carbide precipitation. The $M_2C$ in the as-cast microstructure was also transformed to $M_6C$ due to its instability. The continuous network of coarse carbides owing to the absence of hot-working had little influence on the hardness after quenching and tempering, whereas it resulted in severe brittleness upon flexural loading.

  • A Study on microstructure and elevated temperature strength of 18Cr-2Mo ferritic stainless steel castings strengthened by alloying small amounts of titanium and carbon, has been conducted. The morphology of titanium carbides showed spherical in shape and their distribution depended on the amount of alloying elements. Maximum density ($7{\times}10^5/cm^2$) of titanium carbides has been formed in the alloy containing 2.0 wt.% titanium and 0.5 wt.% carbon as alloying elements and the size of carbide particles is in the range of 0.5 to $3.0\;{\mu}m$. High temperature tensile and fatigue strength of this alloy were the highest among the alloys tested in this research. The fracture mode of the alloys containing alloying elements less that 2.0 wt.% titanium and 0.5 wt.% carbon showed intercrystalline fracture at room temperature, while the alloys containing higher amounts of alloying elements showed transcrystalline fracture. All of the alloys showed creep or ductile rupture mode at elevated temperature.
