Microzooplankton was analysed between $40^{\circ}s$ to $53^{\circ}s$S and $140^{\circ}E$ to $146^{\circ}E$ of the Sourthern Ocean from November 18 to November 30, 1995 to investigate the influence of frontal systems. The density and carbon biomass of microzooplankton were clearly associated with frontal systems, and at least 4 different communities were identified. The Subtropical Convergence Zone and Antarctic Polar Front Zone were the major biological boundaries recognized in the Southern Ocean. Ciliates predominated other microzooplankton in density and carbon biomass. Non-tintinnid ciliates occupied more than 70% of the total microzooplankton, and Laboea spp. was the major component of the non-tintinnid ciliates. The density and carbon biomass showed a decreasing tendency toward south from $40^{\circ}S$ to the $53^{\circ}S$ transect. The ecological importance of a frontal zone is confirmed by the microzooplanktonic data obtained from this study.
We have modeled the dust envelopes around carbon stars with close attention to the evolution of the structure of the dust shells. We use various dust density distributions to take account the effect of the superwind due to the helium shell flash by adding a density increased region. Depending on the position and quality of the density increased region, the model results are different from the results with conventional density distribution. The new results fit the observations of some carbon stars better. The IR two-color diagrams comparing the results of the super wind models and IRAS observation of 252 carbon stars have been made. The new results can explain much wider regions on the IR two-color diagrams.
It have been investigated how algal and bacterial symbiotic reaction influences on removal of organic carbon in river ecosystem. And artificial experimentation apparatus was made for algae'and bacteia'culture as lab scale. Investigating and researching minutely the change of concentration of organic carbon substrate and the change of population density of algae'and of bacteria'with this artificial experimentation apparatus, the next results could be obtained. 1. Successful decrease of DOC(dissolved organic carbon) could not be expected unless algal and bacterial biomass floe was nut formed effectively and unless biosorption was not proceeded effectively in the very culture system in which artificial synthetic wastewater was supplied continuously at constant rate. 2. In conditions of culture liquid of 1335 glucnse mg/L(type 1) and of 267 glucose mg:L(type 2), the algal dominant species was always Chlorella vulgaris in both types in which artificial synthetic wastewater were supplied continuously at constant rate and algae population density was around maximum 107 cells/mL. 3. It was around 108 ~ 107 cells/mL that the population density of heterotrophic bacterium. In culture medium systems type 1 and type 2 in which artificial wastewater were supplied continuously at constant rate, the same density appeared initially when using the population density of Escherichia coli w 3110 as indirect indicator. And this density decreased rapidly till the culturing date 35 days were passed away, while this density increased with gentle slope after same date and then the trend of change at type 2 was more severe than one at type 1. 4. When seeing such a change of population density of Escherichia coli w 3110, the growth of heterotrophic bacterium appeared as survival instinct pattern of broader requirement of nutrient at condition of low concentration of organic carbon substrate than condition of high concentration of same substrate.
10 wt.% of PAN was dissolved in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and 1 wt. % of the multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was evenly dispersed in PAN solution by using ultrasonic miner. The 1 wt.% addition of MWCNT increased the specific capacitance by two times more from 82 to 160 F/g. The specific capacitance of carbon nanofiber(CNF)/carbon nanotube(CNT) composite capacitors was about 90 F/g at the current density of 500 mA/g. This value is even larger than the capacitance from the CNF electrode at the current density of 5 mA. The relatively high capacitance at the high current density is a practical importance for applications to supercapacitor in motor vehicle.
The effect of coal tar ptch-impregnated carbon materials which were made from petroleum coke was investigated at various pressure time and impregnation-sintering cycle. As a result, density and bending strength of the carbon materials were remarkably increased in the condition of pressure times of 5hrs and of the cycle of 3rd times. And the value of d002 and Lc of the graphitic carbon sintered at 230$0^{\circ}C$ shwoed 3.387$\AA$ and 167$\AA$, respectively.
Two-dimensional carbon/carbon preforms made of PAN-based carbon yarn and phenolic resin were densified with pyrolysis of propane by pulse chemical vapor infiltration where repeated the cycle of gas introduction residence and evacuation. Maximim density increment was 14% when infiltration temperature and time were 100$0^{\circ}C$ and 21.25 hrs respectively. The distribution of deposits of pyrocarbon by this process has been occurred uniformly in the bottom middle and top of carbon/carbon composite preform Pulse CVI with residence is most effective in increasing density and shortening infiltration time among isothermal CVI and pulse CVI with and without residence.
Quantifying the amount of carbon pools in forest ecosystems enables to understand about various carbon pools in the forest ecosystem. Therefore, this study was conducted in the Chilimo dry afromontane forest to estimate the amount of carbon stored. The natural forest was stratified into three forest patches based on species composition, diversity, and structure. A total of 50 permanent sample plots of 20 m × 20 m (400 ㎡ ) each were established, laid out on transects of altitudinal gradients with a distance of 100 m between plots. The plots were measured twice in 2012 and 2017. Tree, deadwood, mineral soil, forest floor, and stump data were collected in the main plots, while shrubs, saplings, herbaceous plants, and seedling data were sampled inside subplots. Soil organic carbon (SOC %) was analyzed following Walkely, while Black's procedure and bulk density were estimated following the procedure of Blake (Methods of soil analysis, 1965). Aboveground biomass was calculated using the equation of Chave et al. (Glob Chang Biol_20:3177-3190, 2014). Data analysis was made using RStudio software. To analyze equality of means, we used ANOVA for multiple comparisons among elevation classes at α = 0.05. The aboveground carbon of the natural forest ranged from 148.30 ± 115.02 for high altitude to 100.14 ± 39.93 for middle altitude, was highest at 151.35 ± 108.98 t C ha-1 for gentle slope, and was lowest at 88.01 ± 49.72 t C ha-1 for middle slope. The mean stump carbon density 2.33 ± 1.64 t C ha-1 was the highest for the middle slope, and 1.68 ± 1.21 t C ha-1 was the lowest for the steep slope range. The highest 1.44 ± 2.21 t C ha-1 deadwood carbon density was found under the middle slope range, and the lowest 0.21 ± 0.20 t C ha-1 was found under the lowest slope range. The SOCD up to 1 m depth was highest at 295.96 ± 80.45 t C ha-1 under the middle altitudinal gradient; however, it was lowest at 206.40 ± 65.59 t C ha-1 under the lower altitudinal gradient. The mean ecosystem carbon stock density of the sampled plots in natural forests ranged from 221.89 to 819.44 t C ha-1. There was a temporal variation in carbon pools along environmental and social factors. The highest carbon pool was contributed by SOC. We recommend forest carbon-related awareness creation for local people, and promotion of the local knowledge can be regarded as a possible option for sustainable forest management.

In order to obtain 'value added products' from polypropylene (PP)/waste ground rubber tire powder (WGRT) composites, PP/WGRT microcellular foams were prepared via supercritical carbon dioxide. The effects of blend composition and processing condition on the cell size, cell density and relative density of PP/WGRT micro-cellular composites were studied. The results indicated that the microcellular structure was dependent on blend composition and processing condition. An increased content of waste ground rubber tire powder (WGRT) and maleic anhydride-grafted styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene (SEBS-g-MA) reduced the cell size, and raised the cell density and relative density, whereas a higher saturation pressure increased the cell size, and reduced the cell density and relative density. With increasing saturation temperature, the cell size increased and the relative density decreased, whereas the cell density initially increased and then decreased.
The bipolar plate is the most important and most costly component of proton exchange membrane fuel cells. The development of a suitable low density bipolar plate is scientifically and technically challenging due to the need to maintain high electrical conductivity and mechanical properties. Here, bipolar plates were developed from different particle sizes of natural and expanded graphite with phenolic resin as a polymeric matrix. It was observed that the particle size of the reinforcement significantly influences the mechanical and electrical properties of a composite bipolar plate. The composite bipolar plate based on expanded graphite gives the desired mechanical and electrical properties as per the US Department of Energy target, with a bulk density of 1.55 $g.cm^{-3}$ as compared to that of ~1.87 $g.cm^{-3}$ for a composite plate based on natural graphite (NG). Although the bulk density of the expanded-graphite-based composite plate is ~20% less than that of the NG-based plate, the I-V performance of the expanded graphite plate is superior to that of the NG plate as a consequence of the higher conductivity. The expanded graphite plate can thus be used as an electromagnetic interference shielding material.
