  • This paper is to investigate experimentally an effect of carbon amino silica black-superplasticizer(CASB-SP)on the engineering properties and chromaticity of black color concrete with 0.45 of W/C(water to cement). CASB-SP and carbon black were applied for pigment of the concrete. To prevent efflorescence of concrete, four different water repellent agents were also applied. As results, it was found that use of CASB-SP increased the slump and air contents. Furthermore, the use of CASB-SP increased the compressive strength. As CASB-SP dosages increased, chromaticity was well developed. For the effect of water repellent agent, the use of epoxy type was effective for protection from efflorescence. Based on test results, it was evaluated that 0.5% of CASB-SP effectively improve the concrete quality as well as enhance the chromaticity with proper dosage.

  • This paper presents the result of a mock-up test and field application of concrete that is black in color thanks to the application of superplasticizer containing carbon amino silica black (CASB-SP). Mock-up specimen with a size of $3000{\times}1500{\times}40$ mm was fabricated with black concrete applying 0.5% of CSAB-SP with 27 MPa. After dividing the zone in wall mock-up specimen, three different water repelling agents were applied to verify its effect of efflorescence prevention. It was found that the use of CASB-SP with 0.5% made the black concrete develop a highly clear black color, and the epoxy type water repelling agent had better performance in efflorescence prevention. Based on mock-up test, field application was conducted with bridge member. It was also found that the application of CASB-SP showed favorable results in black color development.

  • Various silanes, amino silane, vinyl silane, sulfur silane (TESPD), and ZS (TESPD/zinc soap complex), are added into chlorinated isobutylene-isoprene copolymer (CIIR)/soft clay/carbon black (CB) and CIIR/hard clay/CB compounds and they are investigated with respect to the vulcanization characteristics, the processability, and the mechanical properties. Comparing hard clay and soft clay filled compounds, hard clay (Suprex) filled system shows a higher die C tear than the soft clay (GK) filled one. The other properties (Mooney, extrusion torque/pressure, torque rise ($M_H-M_L$), modulus at 300%) are close to each other. Among various silanes, the ZS treated hard clay (Suprex) compound shows the highest mechanical property following hard clay(S)/vinyl silane(V) and soft clay(GK)/vinyl silane(V) compounds. The TESPD and the ZS effectively helps a formation of a strong 3-dimensional network structure between silica and CIIR via coupling reaction due to bifunctional nature of TESPD. In addition to that, the ZS added compounds show both a better processability and mechanical properties compared to the S2 ones at low concentration due to improved compatibility between zinc soap and CIIR matrix. Only the ZS added compound shows both improved processabilities (Mooney, Extrusion torque-& pressure) and improved mechanical properties (degree of crosslinking, elongation modulus, tear, and fatigue to failure counts) on both CIIR/hard clay/CB and CIIR/soft clay/CB compounds.

  • In this study, basic physical properties and color development of the black concrete depending on CASB-SP dosages are investigated. According to results, It showed that the slump and air contents of the concrete containing CASB-SP meet all requirements of concrete except when CASB-SP 5.0 % is used. It also showed that the more the CASB-SP is used, the higher the compressive strength becomes. On the other hand, It is found that if the CASB-SP 5.0 % is used, the compressive strength was reduced as the more CASB-SP 5 % is used. In terms of color, it was found out that the more CASB-SP is used, the darker the black becomes.

  • This paper is to compare and analyze the properties of ultra high strength concrete depending on the use of SF aiming for applicability of superplasticizer containing CASB as a functional agent for strength improvement. As experimental results, in case superplasticizer containing CASB is used, regardless of W/B, settiing time was more accelerated than N, and both compressive strength and tensile strength showed an increase in their strength minutely.

  • SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber; 25 wt% of solid contents) nanocomposites reinforced with OLS(organically modified layered silicates) were manufactured via the latex method. Two types of OLS are prepared, i.e. dodecylamine (primary amine) modified montmorillonite (DA-MMT) and N, N-dimethyldodecylamine (tertiary amino) modified MMT (DDA-MMT). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were employed to characterize the layer distance of OLS and the morphology of the nanocomposites. SBR nanocomposites reinforced with ternary phase filler (carbon black/silica/OLS) systems also manufactured. Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) was performed on these composites to determine the loss factor (tan $\delta$) over a range of temperature($-20^{\circ}C{\sim}80^{\circ}C$). The results showed that there was significant changes on the values or tan $\delta$ with the addition of small amount of the OLS. By increasing the contents of OLS, the values of tan $\delta$ at $0^{\circ}C$ increased but those of tan $\delta$ at $60^{\circ}C$ decreased with increasing OLS contents.

  • This study is performed to analyze the effects of CASB by applying the superplasticizer combined CASB on the ultra high strength mortar and concrete that uses different mineral admixture depending on whether the silica fume was used and the results are summarized below. From the characteristics of Fresh mortar and concrete, the fluidity was lower in B2-CASB than B2-PC from the mixing of CASB and based on the viscosity of the mortar and concrete in the binary proportion but in the ternary proportion, B3-CASB showed a larger fluidity than B3-PC because of a reduction in the restriction level due to the effects of an improvement of particle size distribution. The compression strength was higher in ternary proportion than in binary proportion and higher in CASB than in PC from the characteristics of hardening mortar and concrete and this is analyzed as a result of increased minuteness from the calcium silicate hydrates produced from the pozzolan reaction of a mineral admixture, SF, and also the charging effects of capillary pore of CASB. Overall, when using the nanomaterial, CASB in combination with a superplasticizer, the fluidity and the strength aspects of the ternary proportion of ultra high strength mortar and concrete with silica fume may be improved to a higher quality.
