In case of USA, the drilled shaft and the driven pile in the field showed a good correlation in the analysis of the bearing capacity between the dynamic load test and the static load test. However, in Korea, we mainly install the bored pile, which is not widely used overseas and we tried to confirm the reliability of the dynamic load test on the bored pile, because many people questioned the reliability of it. In this study, load tests were carried out on PHC bored piles in LH field (Cheonan, Incheon, Uijeongbu), and the bearing capacity of the dynamic load test (EOID 7times, Restrike 7times) and the static load test (7times) were compared and analyzed. As a result, the average of the bearing capacity of the static load test was 27% higher than that of the dynamic load test (reliability : 0.73, coefficient of variation : 0.3). And the average of the bearing capacity of the static load test (Davisson) was 27% higher than that of the bearing capacity of the dynamic load test (Davisson) (reliability : 0.73, coefficient of variation : 0.2). To reduce the difference between the bearing capacity of the dynamic load test and the static load test, we proposed modified bearing capacity of dynamic load test (base bearing capacity of EOID + skin frictional force of restrike) and difference between the bearing capacities was reduced to 9% (reliability : 0.91, coefficient of variation : 0.2). And the coefficient of variation was reduced to 0.2 and the consistency of analysis increased.

Experimental investigation on the performance of a heat pump system using refrigerant mixtures is done. The condenser and the evaporator are double pipe heat exchangers of counter flow type and the compressor is driven by a variable speed motor. The refrigerant mixture used in the experiment is R22/R142b. Experiments are performed by changing the compressor speed, composition on ratio of mixture, and the average temperatures of condenser and evaporator. The compressor work, heating capacity and the coefficient of performance are calculated. Results show that the heating capacity can be changed by varying the mass flow rate of refrigerant mixtures to meet the heating load. It is shown that the capacity control by changing the composition ratio is more effective than by changing the compressor speed. Under the condition where the external conditions are fixed and the heating loads are equal, the coefficient of performance has its maximum value near 50 : 50 mass fraction of the refrigerant mixture in this study.
This study is to investigate the watertightness properties of waterproofing admixture mixed redispersible polymer and siliceous powder. Series I deals with change in micro-structure of mortar by waterproofing admixture according to the water/cement ratios of 0.5, 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8 Crystal growth in micro-structure was observed through SEM to estimate on the watertightness effect of it. SeriesII deals with watertightness properties of waterproofing admixture on water permeability coefficient, crack restoration capacity and carbonation depth. SeriesII deals with watertightness properties of waterproofing admixture on water permeability coefficient, crack restoration capacity and carbonation depth. The result of this study can be summarized as follows. 1) Fluidity of mortar and concrete was increased by adding waterproofing admixture. 2) From observation through SEM. Crystals grew larger and denser in micro-structure as fiberic crystalization. 3) Waterproofing admixture is good watertightness properties in a level of high water/cement ratios and long limit of time. 4) Crack restoration capacity was appeared and durability was progressed by waterproofing admixture.
This paper presents a comprehensive work on determination of yield base shear coefficient and displacement ductility factor of three to eight story actual reinforced concrete buildings, instead of using generic frames. The building data is provided by a walkdown survey in different locations of the pilot areas. Very detailed three dimensional models of the selected buildings are generated by using the data provided in architectural and reinforcement projects. Capacity curves of the buildings are obtained from nonlinear static pushover analyses and each capacity curve is approximated with a bilinear curve. Characteristic points of capacity curve, the yield base shear capacity, the yield displacement and the ultimate displacement capacity, are determined. The calculated values of the yield base shear coefficients and the displacement ductility factors for directions into consideration are compared by those expected values given in different versions of Turkish Seismic Design Code. Although having sufficient lateral strength capacities, the deformation capacities of these typical mid-rise reinforced concrete buildings are found to be considerably low.

The runoff coefficient for a block paved area is determined with regional rainfall distribution. The Rational Method is a basic equation of a drainage system design and is a function of runoff coefficient, rainfall intensity and area. A runoff coefficient is the ratio of rainfall intensity and runoff. The rainfall intensity which is a function of the return period and rainfall duration differs by region. Therefore the runoff coefficient varies regionally even though there is the same return period and rainfall duration. The ratio of rainfall intensity and rainfall duration is decided by the loss of rainfall. The constant infiltration capacity of Horton's equation is adopted to determine the loss of rainfall. As time passed, the joint of the block paved area through which the infiltration occurs is covered by pollution material, sandy dust, pollen and is hardened by foot pressure, so the constant infiltration capacity may decrease. Six different sites were selected to verify the assumption of the constant infiltration capacity decrease and 10 year return period. 10, 20, and 30 minute rainfall duration were applied to calculate rainfall intensity. The results indicate that the Horton's constant infiltration capacity decreases over time and the minimum constant infiltration capacity is selected to compute runoff coefficients. The runoff coefficients varied by region ranging from $0.94{\sim}0.84$ for 10 minute of rainfall duration.
It has been recognized that friction coefficient decreased with decreasing viscosity of oil in lubrication. In general, the more viscosity decreases, the more wear rate increases due to decrease load carrying capacity. It has been proposed that nano particles in oil decrease friction coefficient and wear rate. The purpose of this study is to apply oil of lower viscosity that mix with nano particles at the compressor used in a refrigerator to decrease friction coefficient keeping Load carrying capacity. Mineral oil of 8 cSt were used and mixed with nano particle. Friction coefficient was evaluated by a disk-on-disk tester. As a result, friction coefficient of nano oil decreased by 90% in comparison with raw oil. These results lead us to the conclusion that nano oil is new plan to raise efficiency of the compressor.

To investigate invar alloy as a core material for increased capacity over-head transmission line which have high strength and low thermal expansion coefficient, hardness and thermal expansion coefficient of Fe-Ni-Co alloy have been studied. It is necessary that invar alloy have low thermal expansion coefficient and high strength for increased capacity over-head transmission line. In this paper. we tried to find out the effect of Ni and Co which has ferromagnetic properties and high saturation magnetization. It was found that Ni decrease thermal expansion coefficient and hardness, Co decrease thermal expansion coefficient but increase hardness in Fe-xNi-Co system. In Fe-(29-x)Ni-Co system, the material has no low thermal expansion properties substituting Co instead of Ni in concentration range of $1\sim7$%Co.
The present paper investigates the spatial variability effect of soil property on the three-dimensional probabilistic characteristics of the bearing capacity factor (i.e., mean and coefficient of variation) of a circular footing resting on clayey soil where both mean and standard deviation of undrained shear strength increases with depth, keeping the coefficient of variation constant. The mean trend of undrained shear strength is defined by introducing the dimensionless strength gradient parameter. The finite difference method along with the random field and Monte Carlo simulation technique, is used to execute the numerical analyses. The lognormal distribution is chosen to generate random fields of the undrained shear strength. In the study, the potential failure of the structure is represented through the failure probability. The influences of different vertical scales of fluctuation, dimensionless strength gradient parameters, and coefficient of variation of undrained shear strength on the probabilistic characteristics of the bearing capacity factor and failure probability of the footing, along with the probability and cumulative density functions, are explored in this study. The variations of failure probability for different factors of safety corresponding to different parameters are also illustrated. The results are presented in non-dimensional form as they might be helpful to the practicing engineers dealing with this type of problem.
The objective of this paper is to investigate the confinement coefficient of concrete-filled square stainless steel tubular (CFSSST) stub columns under axial loading. A fine finite 3D solid element model was established, which utilized a constitutive model of stainless steel considering the strain-hardening characteristics and a triaxial plastic-damage constitutive model of concrete with features of the parameter certainty under axial compression. The finite element analysis results revealed that the increased ultimate bearing capacity of CFSSST stub columns compared with their carbon steel counterparts was mainly due to that the composite action of CFSSST stub columns is stronger than that of carbon steel counterparts. A further parametric study was carried out based on the verified model, and it was found that the stress contribution of the stainless steel tube is higher than the carbon steel tube. The stress nephogram was simplified reasonably in accordance with the limit state of core concrete and a theoretical formula was proposed to estimate the ultimate bearing capacity of square CFSSST stub columns using superposition method. The predicted results showed satisfactory agreement with both the experimental and FE results. Finally, the comparisons of the experimental and predicted results using the proposed formula and the existing codes were illustrated.
This paper numerically assesses the initial stiffness and moment capacity of stainless steel composite bolted joints with concrete-filled circular tubular (CFCT) columns. By comparing with existing design codes including EN 1993-1-8 and AS/NZS 2327, a modified component method was proposed to better predict the flexural performance of joints involving circular columns and curved endplates. The modification was verified with independent experimental results. A wide range of finite element models were then developed to investigate the elastic deformations of column face in bending which contribute to the corresponding stiffness coefficient. A new design formula defining the stiffness coefficient of circular column face in bending was proposed through regression analysis. Results suggest that a factor for the stiffness coefficient of endplate in bending should be reduced to 0.68, and more contribution of prying forces needs to be considered. The modified component method and proposed formula are able to estimate the structural behaviour with reasonable accuracy. They are expected to be incorporated into the current design provisions as supplementary for beam-to-CFCT column joints.
