  • The line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motor has been developed facilitate to the design of the synchronous motor. The rotor of this motor is composed of interior permanent magnets and aluminum bars instead of rotor windings. It is difficult to predict the performance characteristics accurately, because many characteristics are produced by the aluminum rotor bars and the permanent magnets. Therefore, in this paper the dynamic characteristics of the LSPM motor are described and compared via the time-stepped finite element method with those of the cage-type induction motor to find the characteristics of the permanent magnets and the rotor bars in the LSPM motor.

  • Induction motors have wide applicability in many fields, both in industrial sectors and households, for their advantages of a high efficiency and robust structure. The introduction of power-source-containing harmonics into the induction motor winding lowers its efficiency and increases its temperature, greatly affecting its operation characteristics. In this study, we performed an electromagnetic field analysis using the time-difference finite-element method with the purpose of analyzing the steady-state current characteristics of an induction motor. Additionally, we calculated the steady-state current with a method combining an electromagnetic field equation and a circuit equation. In the electromagnetic field analysis, the nonlinearity was taken into account using the Newton-Raphson method, and a backward time-difference method was employed for the time derivative term. Then, we compared the steady-state current of the induction motor obtained by calculation with the experimentally measured values, thus validating the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, we analyzed the impacts of the shape and material of the rotor conductor bar of the induction motor on the steady-state current of the main winding.

  • The direct torque control method of an inverter fed squirrel cage typed induction motor using fuzzy logic controller has been proposed. This method is suitable for the traction which requires a fast torque response during the star-up and step change. The fuzzy control algorithm based upon the control principles of conventional DSC(Direct Self Controller) is developed. The fuzzy algorithm is tarried out by defuzzification strategy of the fuzzy output extracted from the possibility distribution of an inferred fuzzy control rule. The flux and torque of an induction motor are estimated by the dynamic model of the rotor flux field-oriented scheme which has decoupling characteristics and excellent dynamic response over a wide speed range. The proposed controller shows a good dynamic response. Moreover, since the fuzzy controller possesses highly adaptive capability, the performance of fuzzy controller is quite robust and insensitive to the motor parameters and change of operation conditions.

  • The high temperature superconducting bulk can be used as the rotor of an ac motor. This paper presents the fabrication and test results of a ac motor with HTS bulk rotor. The rotor of a conventional squirrel cage induction motor was replaced with cylinder type YBCO bulk. Height and outer diameter of the HTS bulk was 15mm and 46mm, respectively. Eddy current brake using aluminium disk was used to measure the torque of the HTS motor. No load test, locked rotor test and load test were performed to examine the characteristics of the HTS motor. Test results show the motor can rotate at synchronous speed without any special starting circuit. Maximum output power of the constructed HTS motor was 408W.

  • According to the rapid growth of high speed and precise industry, the application of synchronous motor has been increased. In the application fields, the large synchronous motor is not a self-starting motor. The rotor is heavy and, from a dead stop, it is impossible to bring the rotor into magnetic lock with the rotating magnetic field for this reason, all synchronous motor have some kinds of starting device. A simple starter is another motor which brings the rotor up to approximately 96 percent of it synchronous speed. The starting motor is disconnected and the rotor locks in step with the rotating field. The more commony used starting method is to have the rotor to include a squirrel cage indution winding. This indution winding brings the rotor almost to synchronous speed as an induction motor. So, this paper describes excessive condition interpretation of a exciter circuit to prevent starting failure of large synchronous motor. the large synchronous motor needs safety of it in accordance with operating frequent start and stop. the operating Problem point of synchronous motor appears potential element damage of Exciter circuit because synchronous motor is caused synchronous separation. hence we eliminate it and improve starting toque.

  • This paper presents an improved operating characteristics of squirrel-cage induction motor(IM) for 5-phase 1.5kW, 220V, 60Hz in order to study a polyphase AC machinery that keep hold of advantages more than traditional three-phase a IM, such as reducing a amplitude of torque pulsation, decreasing electric noises, and increasing the reliability. The developed manufacturing motor was necessary to do improvement of speed regulation, efficiency, operating characteristics, and so on at rated load. There are remake a redesigned and distributed stator winding connection without changing the frames of stator and rotor core in previous established the motor by a repeat tests. There are shown a experiments results of no-load test, locked rotor test, operating characteristics at variable load, FFT analysis of harmonics within output voltages and current waveform, decided motor parameters.

  • The speed-torque characteristics of the squirrel cage induction motor is determined by the rotor resistance. This paper presents the fabrication and test results of an HTS induction motor. Conventional end rings and short bars were replaced with HTS tapes in the rotor. Test result shows that the speeds of the HTS induction motor were the same with synchronous speed up to 10Nm.

  • Oxidation models of a rotor bar and end ring segment in an induction motor are presented to simulate the behavior of an induction machine working with oxidized rotor parts which are modeled as rotor faults in progress. The leakage inductance and resistance of the rotor parts arc different from normal values because of the oxidation process. The impedance variations modify the current density and magnetic flux which pass through the oxidized parts. Consequently, it causes the rotor asymmetry which induces abnormal harmonics in the stator current spectra of the faulty machine. The leakage inductances of the oxidation models are derived by the Ampere's law. Using the proposed oxidation models, the rotor bar and end ring faults in progress can be modeled and simulated with the motor current signature analysis (MCSA). In addition, the oxidation process of the rotor bar and end ring segment can motivate the rotor asymmetry, which is induced by electromagnetic imbalances, and it is one of the major motor faults. Results of simulations and experiments are compared to each other to verify the accuracy of the proposed models. Experiments are achieved using 3.7 kW, 3-phase, and squirrel cage induction motors with a motor drive inverter.

  • This paper is written by research for the transient characteristics of the Single-phase Line-start permanent Magnet. The Single-phase Line-start permanent Magnet is most likely to substitute for Single-phase Induction Motor which is used about many appliance currently, because that has good points. For example, It has a Line-start of ability and a High-efficiency. And it need not power convergence device. The rotor of The Single-phase Line-start permanent Magnet has cage-bar with permanent magnet. This motor is started by cage-bar. When it entered synchronous condition, the rotor is rotated by the permanent magnet. But the design of the permanent magnet is very important, because the breaking torque of the permanent magnet interrupt to start a rotor. Finally, if Flux Barrier is not concerned, we do not get result of our object. Therefore this thesis is concerned about Flux Barrier.
