The recent growth of cable broadcast technology such as Tru2Way enables the cable service operator to provide more enhanced experiences to cable TV audience. As a result, various applications have been produced and user can easily access cable network to receive multimedia content as well as interactive application in cable environment. In order for current cable technology to be accepted as a web extended technology, a process of web based applications having a web document and multimedia resources, proper web service definition and middleware architecture for existing cable environment should be established. In this paper, we define a web application for cable environment and propose a middIeware architecture which can process web application based on Tru2Way technology
The cable component of cable-stayed bridges is gradually impacted by weather conditions, vehicle loads, and material corrosion. The stayed cable is a critical load-carrying part that closely affects the operational stability of a cable-stayed bridge. Damaged cables might lead to the bridge collapse due to their tension capacity reduction. Thus, it is necessary to develop structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques that accurately identify damaged cables. In this work, a combinational identification method of three efficient techniques, including statistical analysis, clustering, and neural network models, is proposed to detect the damaged cable in a cable-stayed bridge. The measured dataset from the bridge was initially preprocessed to remove the outlier channels. Then, the theory and application of each technique for damage detection were introduced. In general, the statistical approach extracts the parameters representing the damage within time series, and the clustering approach identifies the outliers from the data signals as damaged members, while the deep learning approach uses the nonlinear data dependencies in SHM for the training model. The performance of these approaches in classifying the damaged cable was assessed, and the combinational identification method was obtained using the voting ensemble. Finally, the combination method was compared with an existing outlier detection algorithm, support vector machines (SVM). The results demonstrate that the proposed method is robust and provides higher accuracy for the damaged cable detection in the cable-stayed bridge.
The sudden collapse of Interstate 35 Bridge in Minneapolis gave a wake-up call to US municipalities to re-evaluate aging bridges. In this situation, structural health monitoring (SHM) technology can provide the essential help needed for monitoring and maintaining the nation's infrastructure. Monitoring long span bridges such as cable-stayed bridges effectively requires the use of a large number of sensors. In this article, we introduce a probabilistic approach to identify optimal locations of sensors to enhance damage detection. Probability distribution functions are established using an artificial neural network trained using a priori knowledge of damage locations. The optimal number of sensors is identified using multi-objective optimization that simultaneously considers information entropy and sensor cost-objective functions. Luling Bridge, a cable-stayed bridge over the Mississippi River, is selected as a case study to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach.

The partial discharge has been blown as the chief breakdown of power equipments. The analysis and the recognition is much difficult because the partial discharge signal is very small and has complex aging pattern. Recently, insulation aging diagnosis based on pattern of phase(Ф), partial discharge magnitude(q), number(n) has been very important. Owing to depreciate the reappearance of aging progress at the electrical tree pattern and to be difficult to analyze visually, the study on partial discharge pattern is suggested to normalizing analysis method of partial discharge signals. This parer is purposed on prediction of life-time measurement of cv-cable, on decision of risk degree with normalization and real-time measurement of partial discharge signals for aging diagnosis of cv-cable. As normalizing the aging signals of electrical tree in cv-cable, it is able to confirm risk degree of insulation material with the distribution of Ф-q-n and recognize the process of aging pattern using neural network.
Since power failures in high-speed communication network, especially in HFC(Hybrid Fiber Coaxial cable) network are critical, microcontroller-based UPS(Uninterrupted Power Supply) are commonly used in the network. Hardware and software of UPS management system is designed and implemented to monitor and control UPS status to supply electric power to ONU and TBA in the HFC network. The result of laboratory tests and field tess of this system shows the scan rate to be 1 to 10 minutes to sufficiently monitor the status of UPS in the network.

This paper presents a two-port time-domain reflectometry(TDR) measurement technique for extracting the complex propagation constant of a cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE) cable. For the extraction, a short pulse transmitted through the cable is measured in the time domain and analyzed in the frequency domain. The propagation constant of a 22.9 kV XLPE cable with a conductor area of 325 $mm^2$ is extracted up to a frequency of approximately 2.14 GHz. The $S_{21}$ measured using a network analyzer and the two-port TDR technique are compared for verification. As a result compared with previous TDR method, the upper possible frequency limit for extracting the propagation constant increases and the measurement error decreases.
This paper analyses the data collected from the $2^{nd}$ Jindo Bridge, a cable-stayed bridge in Korea that is a structural health monitoring (SHM) international test bed for advanced wireless smart sensors network (WSSN) technology. The SHM system consists of a total of 70 wireless smart sensor nodes deployed underneath of the deck, on the pylons, and on the cables to capture the vibration of the bridge excited by traffic and environmental loadings. Analysis of the data is performed in both the time and frequency domains. Modal properties of the bridge are identified using the frequency domain decomposition and the stochastic subspace identification methods based on the output-only measurements, and the results are compared with those obtained from a detailed finite element model. Tension forces for the 10 instrumented stay cables are also estimated from the ambient acceleration data and compared both with those from the initial design and with those obtained during two previous regular inspections. The results of the data analyses demonstrate that the WSSN-based SHM system performs effectively for this cable-stayed bridge, giving direct access to the physical status of the bridge.

In this paper, we propose a electrical/mechanical method to effectively diagnose the local deterioration of a 10m long power shielded twist pair cable defined by the American Wire Gauge (AWG) 14 specification using electrical/mechanical methods. The rapid deterioration of the cable proceeded by using the heating furnace, which is based on the Arrhenius equations proceeds from 0 to 35 years with the deteriorated equivalent model. In this paper, we introduce a method to diagnose the characteristics of locally deteriorated cable by using $S_{21}$ phase and frequency change rate measured by vector network analyzer which is the electrical diagnostic method. The measured $S_{21}$ phase and rate of change of frequency show a constant correlation with the number of years of locally deteriorated cable, thus it can be useful for diagnosing deteriorated cables. The change of modulus due to deterioration was measured by a modulus measuring device, which is defined by the ratio of deformation from the force externally applied to the cable, and the rate of modulus change also shows a constant correlation with the number of years of locally deteriorated cable. Finally, By combining the advantages of electrical/mechanical diagnostic methods, we can efficiently diagnose the local deterioration in the power shielded cable.
Before applying HTS power cable to the real utility. system analysis should be carried out by some simulation tools . Hereby the electrical power system analysis is very important for practical use of HTS devices. Nowadays PSCAD/EMTDC simulation tool is one of the most popular and useful analysis tool for the electrical power system analysis. Unfortunately the model component for HTS power cable is not provided in the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation tool In this paper. the EMTDC model component for HTS power cable has been developed considering critical current, critical temperature and recovery time constant that depend on the sorts of HTS wire. The numerical model of HTS Power cable in PSCAD/EMTDC was designed by using the real experimented data obtained from the real HTS 1G wire test. The utility application analysis of HTS power cable was also performed using the developed model component and the parameters of the real utility network in this study. The author's got good results. The developed model component for HTS power cable could be variously used when the power system includes HTS power cable, especially it will be readily analyzed by PSCAD/EMTDC in order to obtain the data for the level of fault current power flow, and power losses, and so on.
Due to large demand for high speed and great capacity for data transfer, WDM, which uses the wavelength division multiplexing technique, is known as alternative way to satisfy those demand for its flexible network operation and management, easy network expansion with existing networks, and enhancement of efficient data transfer rate. For these reasons, a new high capacity WDM optical communication network plan was established. Therefore, the quality of currently deployed optical cables with 81.6 km in length should be assessed to ensure if high capacity WDM system could be implemented on existing optical cables. Two important characteristic parameters, Transfer Loss and PMD (Polarization Mode Dispersion), were measured to evaluate quality of existing optical cable. Transfer Loss was measured at 0.244 dB per kilometer, which is lower than the design standard value at 0.275 dB/km. The measured PMD value gave at 0.030ps/km, and it, therefore, satisfies the value recommended by ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union-T) of 0.5ps/km. In addition, the transfer characteristic for existing 2.5 Gbps and 10 Gbps system were measured and evaluated, and the results showed that error-free transfer is very much feasible. Computer simulation for DWDM system, which is likely be a future backbone network in Korea, to assess the transfer characteristic using the same condition employed for 2.5 Gbps and 10 Gbps was carried out as well. The simulation verified that a stable network operation and reliable service could be provided.
