Since the revision of the Rationalization of Energy Use Law, the spread of new and renewable energy in buildings has been promoted. In addition, the production of electric power and thermal energy is an important issue in the change of energy paradigm centered on the use of distributed energy. Among them, geothermal energy is attracting attention as a high-performance energy-saving technology capable of coping with heating / cooling and hot water load by utilizing the constant temperature zone of the earth. However, there is a disadvantage that the initial investment cost is high as a method of calculating the capacity of a geothermal facility by calculating the maximum load. The disadvantages of these disadvantages are that the geothermal energy supply is getting stagnant and the design of the geothermal system needs to be supplemented. In this study, optimization design of geothermal system was carried out using optimization tool. As a result of the optimization, the ground heat exchanger decreased by 30.8%, the capacity of the heat pump decreased by 7.7%, and the capacity of the heat storage tank decreased by about 40%. The simulation was performed by applying the optimized value to the program and confirmed that it corresponds to the load of the building. We also confirmed that all of the constraints used in the optimization design were satisfied. The initial investment cost of the optimized geothermal system is about 18.6% lower than the initial investment cost.
In this study, the change of heat loss due to the degree of deterioration of the XPS insulation in KEPCO's office buildings is analyzed. The acceleration aging test of the XPS insulation was carried out according to the test method A of KS M ISO 11561: 2009. The performance of the insulation was analyzed by applying it to the three - dimensional steady state heat transfer analysis program. The acceleration aging test of the XPS insulation, show that the thermal resistance performance decreased by 1.44% at the A regional headquarters, 0.85% at the B regional headquarters, 6.41% at the C branch office, 7.76% at the D regional headquarters, 8.51% at the E branch office, and by 8.54% at the F branch office respectively. Using simulation, we determined that the thermal resistance value of E branch office decreased by 8.04%, while its heat loss increased by 8.52%. At A regional headquarters, the thermal resistance decreased by 1.38%, and the heat loss increased by 1.51%. At D regional headquarters, these value are 6.82% and 7.17%, respectively.

Modular systems are widely used in various building types including housing, dormitory, and barracks. Steel studs have many advantages over other materials as construction components of modular buildings in terms of seismic performance, durability and maintenance. However, steel stud modular systems also have weakness in condensation resistance due to high thermal conductivity of steel. The purpose of this study is to investigate the condensation resistance of steel stud wall corner details in modular buildings by thermal simulation. The condensation resistance was evaluated by temperature difference ratio according to ISO 13788. The result showed that there was little difference between the alternatives of adding cavity and insulation. Separation of interstitial steel studs showed outstanding effect on the improvement of temperature difference ratio.
In case of general residential house, photovoltaic can be installed at roof, wall, and any other places. But, in case of apartment building, there has not enough roof space to install photovoltaic panels to supply enough electricity. Actually, apartment building roof and facade wall (exclude the balcony window space) is not enough space to produce and supply the electricity to residents by installing PV panel. Generally, the space of facade balcony with windows in facade wall at apartment building occupied about $70{\sim}80%$, in all facade space. So, if we could use the balcony and windows space in facade as PV to generating electricity, there could contribute the energy saying. But, PV cell is opacify. So if it installed at front window area in apartment building, residents may have displeasure for that opacity character. But the other hand, residents are not always in house especially in day time that is exactly good time for generating electricity by PV. If we can use PV at the facade balcony with window without collusion of resident's displeasure, there have good attraction to using sustainable energy. Hence, this study suggests the design of facade balcony window style PV by considering resident's living pattern in apartment building. The methods of this study are as follows. At first, this study surveyed to the residents about residential time in their home and asked user demand by Delphi survey. At second, this study designed balcony open style PV system which oriented to the user demand. At third, this study tests designed result performance by computer simulation that compared design result with old design. As a result, For the purpose of satisfying the resident demand, there designed sliding window style which slide the several door systems to the one side. That would be make balcony absolute open scenery to the residents. Hence, the designed system performance results were as follows. When we compare the small apartment and large apartment, smaller one has good performance than larger one. Because resident's residential time characteristic. And that has more good electronic performance than vertical style that is similar to roof style.

To fulfill the demands concerning energy efficiency for zero energy buildings, various technologies of architects and engineers are required. This study aims to estimate the thermal performance of heat source equipment in which part load characteristics are considered in an office building. Overestimation of heat source equipment was reviewed through literature survey, and heating and cooling loads depending on the capacity and division of the equipment were analyzed through a simulation program (DOE-2.1E). The conclusions gained from this study are as follows; 1) The more the division of equipment, the less the heating and cooling energy consumption. 2) When a large item of equipment is divided into two small items of equipment, the optimum application rate showed as 5:5 for chiller, and 7:3 for boiler, respectively.
Purpose: The window energy rating system was developed in early 1990's and various kind of rating system has been implemented in advanced country such as Europe, Australia, Canada and the US since 2000. In Korea, the Energy Consumption Efficiency Rating Indication System has been implemented to promote supply of high efficiency window since July 2012. Normally, the window energy rating system based on heat balance which considers both thermal losses and solar heat gain is used and applied only to residential buildings. However, the system used nationally only considers thermal losses and is applied to every building regardless of its usage. Therefore, in this study, we indicated problems of domestic window energy rating system and looked for improvements. Method: We analyzed thermal performance of various windows through dynamic simulation applied to detached house and compared results with those of domestic and foreign rating system. Result : Thermal performance of south windows is more affected by SHGC than U-value, and that of north windows is also affected by SHGC a lot. The difference between the results of our study and current system is statistically significant. As a result, appropriate evaluation criteria which considers solar heat gain is required.

The study analyzed the heat losses and the building energy efficiency grade by the energy simulation using the ENERGY# and ECO2 programs for the three types of Standard design of rural houses. It was calculated the energy efficiency rating by the ECO2 program for the rural housing standard design, and the energy demand and the energy consumption by each factor were compared and analyzed. And it analyzed energy consumption by element of each house by ENERGY # program. As a result, first in the evaluation of the energy efficiency grade of buildings by the ECO2 program, the rating for primary energy requirement for the housing newly built by the standard design of rural house is expected to range from 2 to 4 with 189.3 to $238.7kWh/m^2.a$. Second, the energy loss of each part of standard design of rural housing occurs in the order of ventilation 39%, window 33%, outer wall 14%, roof 9%, bottom 5%, and energy loss through ventilation and window occurs more than 70%. Third, the most beneficial effects on the energy efficiency grade is obtained the lowest grade of all three types by 2 when the lowering of the window and door heat transmission rate and the lowering of the light density, and the heat exchange ventilation device is not installed. Fourth, in the standard design of rural housing, the energy demand is occupied by heating > hot water > lighting order, and the order of the weight is changed in order of heating > lighting > ventilation > hot water. Fifth, building energy efficiency assessment system needs to establish policy for fixing rural housing energy as a practical device to ensure energy performance and quality.

Ball valve has been widely used in the field of high-pressure gas pipeline as an important component because of its low flow resistance and good leakage performance. The present paper focuses on the flow nature at the downstream of the ball valve used for gas pipelines according to valve opening rates. Steady 3-D RANS equations, SC/Tetra, have been introduced to analyze the flow characteristics inside the ball valve. Numerical boundary conditions at the inlet and outlet of the valve system are imposed by mass flow-rate and pressure, respectively. Velocity distributions obtained by numerical simulation are compared with respect to the valve opening rates of 30, 50, and 70%. Cavity distributions, asymmetry flow velocity and the flow stabilization point at each opening rate are also compared. When the valve opening rates are 30 and 50%, the flow stabilization requires the sufficient length of 10D or more due to the influence of the recirculation flow at the downstream of the valve.
Measures for coping with energy shortage are being sought all over the world. Following such a phenomenon, effort to use less energy in the design of buildings and equipment are being conducted. In particular, a program to evaluate the performance of a building comes into the spotlight. However. indispensable standard wether data to estimate the exact energy consumption of a building is currently unprepared. Thus, after appling standard weather data for four weather factors which were used in previous researches to Visual DOE 4.0, we compared it with the result of the existing data and evaluated them. For the monthly cooling and heating load of our target building, we used revised data for June, July, August, and September during which cooling load is applied. When not the existing data but the revised data was used, the research shows that an average of 14.9% increased in June, August, and September except for July. Also, in a case of heating load, the result by the revised data shows a reduction of an average of 11.9% from October to April during which heating load is applied. In particular, the heating loads of all months for which the revised data was used were more low than those of the existing data. In the maximum cooling and heating load according to load factors, the loads by residents and illumination for which the revised data was used were the same as those of the existing data, but the maximum cooling loads used by the two data have a difference in structures such as walls and roofs. Through the above results, the research cannot clearly grasp which weather data influences the cooling and heating load of a building. However, in the maximum loads by the change of weather data in four factors (dry-bulb temperature, web-bulb temperature, cloud amount, and wind speed) among 14 weather factors, the research shows that 5.95% in cooling load and 27.56% in heating load increased, and these results cannot be ignored. In order to make weather data for Performing energy performance evaluation for future buildings, the flow of weather data for the Present and past should be obviously grasped.

Damped outrigger systems have been proposed as a novel energy dissipation system to protect tall buildings from severe earthquakes and strong wind loads. In this study, semi-active damping devices such as magnetorheological (MR) dampers instead of passive dampers are installed vertically between the outrigger and perimeter columns to achieve large and adaptable energy dissipation. Control performance of semi-active outrigger damper system mainly depends on the control algorithm. Fuzzy logic control algorithm was used to generate command voltage sent to MR damper. Genetic algorithm was used to optimize the fuzzy logic controller. An artificial earthquake load was generated for numerical simulation. A simplified numerical model of damped outrigger system was developed. Based on numerical analyses, it has been shown that the semi-active damped outrigger system can effectively reduce both displacement and acceleration responses of the tall building in comparison with a passive outrigger damper system.
