  • The bryozoan assemblage from Seogwipo Formation in Jejudo yielded 33 taxa, including seven cyclostomes and 26 cheilostomes. It is the first fossil bryozoans described from the entire Korean peninsula. Five species, Callopora inermis, Tegella horrida, Celleporaria reflexa, Porella rotundirostris, and Rhynchozoon obliquimandibulatum, are new to the Korean bryozoan fauna as both in the Recent and fossil records. Tegella horrida, Celleporella reflexa, Porella donoghueorum, and Leischara subgracilis are notably cold-water species. This suggests that the Seogwipo Formation was primarily deposited in shallow water environment, subject to changesinfluenced by warm-water masses and temporarily impacted by cold currents. Only 33 species from the Seogwipo Formation in Korea, are very poor because the Seogwipo Formation is the only Pleistocene marine deposit in the Korean Peninsula. Eight species previously unknown as fossils worldwide, Tubulipora perforata, Puellina paracaesia, Reginella multipora, Celleporella reflexa, Exochella cryptodontia, Suhius cf. rubescentis, Cheiloporina cf. haddoni, and Jodoella koreensis are found in the Seogwipo Formation. This study is meaningful as it reports the first fossil assemblage of bryozoans from the Korean peninsula.

  • A new species of bryozoan, Bicellariella fragilis n. sp. is reported from Jejudo Island, Korea. It was collected at Munseom I. and Supseom I. off Seogwipo city by the fishing net and SCUBA diving from 1978 to 2009. The new species has characteristics of four to five dorso-distal spines and two proximal spines, whereas ten to twelve spines of B. sinica are not separated into two groups of the distal and proximal ones. And this species shows the difference from B. levinseni in having no avicularium.

  • Two new species of Asterocheridae are described from Korean seas: Acontiophorus pilosus associated with a bryozoan of Celeporina sp. in the Sea of Japan and Asteropontius bifurcatus associated with the antipatharian Antipathes japonicus in Jeju Island in Korea Strait. A key to the species of Acontiophorus is provided.

  • Artotrogus gordoni n. sp. is described as an associate of the bryzoan Schizosmittina cinctipora (Hincks, 1885) collected from an intertidal shore in New Zealand. The new species is similar to A. sardae McKinnon but distinguishable from it by the different shapes of antennule where the first segment is the longest and urosome where the anal somite is distinctly narrower than the genital double somite and posterolateral processes on the genital double somite which is tapered and much more developed than in A. sardae.

  • This study aims to clarify the diversity of bryozoans which were collected from Seogwipo waters in Jeju Island, Korea. A total of 78 species has been reported from Seogwipo waters so far. In the present study, 63 species were found from nine sites of Seogwipo waters from 2008 to 2012, including six newly added species to the Korean bryozoan fauna and twelve species new to Seogwipo waters. As a result of this study, the bryozoans from Seogwipo waters were turned out to be 96 species, 64 genera, 42 families, three orders and two classes.

  • This study aims to investigate the freshwater bryozoans of Jeju Island off the Korean Peninsula for the first time. To date, twelve species has been reported from the mainland of Korea. However, no study of freshwater bryozoans has ever been conducted on Korean islands including Jeju Island, which is the largest island in Korea. Five species in three genera Fredericella, Plumatella and Stephanella, from Jeju Island are described. Of which, three species, Fredericella indica, Plumatella mukaii and P. rugosa, are new records of Korean bryozoan fauna. As a result of this study, the number of identified Korean freshwater bryozoans is now 15 species, including 12 phylactolaemates and three gymnolaemates.

  • Three species in the genus Aetea (Bryozoa: Cheilostomata: Aeteidae) are described: Aetea anguina (Linnaeus, 1758), A. ligulata Busk, 1852, and A. truncata (Landsborough, 1852). Aetea ligulata Busk, 1852 and A. truncata (Landsborough, 1852) are new records of Korean bryozoan fauna. Four of the 17 species in the genus Aetea Lamouroux, 1812 are cosmopolitan or widespread. Three of these species (Aetea sica (Couch, 1844) was not observed) are reported in this study.
