  • The KOREASAT satellite, the first Korean commercial communication and broadcasting satellite, has been launched in August 1995, and has started to provide the communication and preliminary broadcasting services, respectively, in March and July 1996. In this paper the network configurations and characteristics of the services which the KOREASAT satellite provides are described. The services, which are provided by the KOREASAT satellite with its twelve communication and four broadcasting transponders, are the direct broadcasting service, the video relay service including the TVRO, SNG and TV/CATV program distribution, the company-wide communication service including VSAT and TSAT, and the other services with the digital line, trunk relay, telephone line, mobile data, music broadcasting services, etc. A communication transponder has the 36MHz bandwidth and 14W output power, and a broadcasting transponder has the 27MHz bandwidth and 12OW output power.

  • In order to broadcast 8K UHD, domestic broadcasting is upgrading production, operation, and transmission technologies in a new way that has various forms such as terrestrial broadcasting, IPTV, mobile, and streaming services. In order to overcome the existing SDI transmission technology that has reached its limit, new transmission technologies using ICT-based convergence such as IT, Network, IOT, and Big Data are developing. Internet Protocol(IP) transmission technology is an IT-based core protocol that transcends various broadcasting infrastructures. Therefore, it can be said that the technology for converting the broadcasting system based on IP is a natural one for preparing for 8K UHD in the future. In this paper, we propose an IP transmission system that adopts a network that can transmit 8K with hardware of 12G Serial Digital Interface (SDI), in order to prepare for the future broadcasting system according to the development of ALL IP interface technology.

  • In this paper we describe an efficient and easy to use network monitoring system which can identify network configuration automatically by means of capturing and analyzing the ARP broadcasting packets. After identifying network nodes, it gathers detail information of each node such as NETBIOS name and number of hop counts using ICMP and then shows subnet configuration with graphical method. This monitoring system also has a subset of intrusion detection system that can monitor any port scanning trial. With this automatic network configuration functions, it helps to lessen address keeping track overhead which is crucial for network monitoring so that it provides efficient network management.

  • For designing broadcast protocols in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), one of the important goals is to reduce the rebroadcast packets redundancy while reaching all the nodes in network. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic broadcasting mechanism based on selfishness and additional coverage in MANETs. Our approach dynamically adjusts the rebroadcast probability according to the extra covered area and number of neighbor nodes. By these two factors, mobile hosts can be classified into three groups: normal, low selfishness, and high selfishness groups. The nodes in the normal group forward packets for other nodes with high probability, whereas the nodes in the low selfishness group rebroadcast packets with low probability and the nodes in the high selfishness group do not rebroadcast packets. We compared our approach with simple flooding and the fixed probabilistic approach. The simulation results show that the proposed schemes can significantly reduce the number of retransmissions by up to 40% compared simple flooding and fixed probabilistic scheme without significant reduction in the network reachability and end-to-end packet delay.

  • Broadcasting services sector has been facing strong public pressure to shift gears from regulation to deregulation since mid-1990s, where a triggering role was played particularly by rapid development of IT technology and content digitization. Major agenda was how to reduce regulatory divides between more liberal telecommunication sector and less liberal broadcasting. After all, common solution package worldwide was for the latter to switch over from network-dependent(vertical) to network-independent(horizontal) regulation, and to facilitate more open and competitive transmission with content market kept protected. This is no other than decoupling content provision from broadcasting and promoting market access towards the latter. Policy experiences of US and UK show that there exists a complementary relationship between quantitative and qualitative restrictions in implementing such deregulation. While mitigating quantitative ownership regulations in broadcasting, they also sought to systematize, so-called, PIT(public interest test) as a qualitative safety device to cope with the risk of losing fundamental public values accordingly in broadcasting. Recent domestic progress in broadcasting legislation in 2009, however, seems to overlook the growing importance of PIT in the process of deregulation. Bearing this motivation in mind and taking account of the relevant WTO disciplines, this paper is to address policy issues and suggestions for PIT in Korea's broadcasting services sector.

  • Recently, mobile traffic has increased tremendously due to the deployment of smart devices such as smartphones and smart tablets. Android is the world's most powerful mobile platform in smartphone. The Android operating system provide seamless access to many applications and access to the Internet. It would involve network packet sharing communicated over the network. Network packet contains a lot of useful information about network activity that can be used as a description of the general network behaviours. To study what is the behaviours of the network packet, an effective tools such as network packet analyzers software used by network administrators to capture and analyze the network information. In this research, more understanding about network information in live network packet captured from Android smartphone is the target and identify the best network analyzer software.

  • The success of naval operation prioritizes the implementation of a robust communication network that delivers accurate and prompt communications to one another. The satellite, which is the main communication network of the military, is required to construct a preliminary communication network because of the enemy radio disturbance and weak point of fixed antenna. The military operational communication network has been in transition from voice-centered wireless communication network to text message-based communication network. In this paper we suggest an enhanced communication method built on Roll Call, the main communication method of ROK Navy operating tactical data link called Link-11. Simulation results display that the proposed method reduces the transmission time per unit frame by 4.3 times compared to the Roll Call and 6.3 times compared with the Round Robin & Broadcasting; it is also proved that the higher the direct reception rate, the shorter the transmission time required by 1.6 times maximum.

  • Broadcasting in multi-hop wireless sensor networks is a basic operation that supports many applications such as route search, setting up addresses and sending messages from the sink to sensor nodes. The broadcasting using flooding causes problems that can be mentioned as a broadcasting storm such as redundancy, contention and collision. A variety of broadcasting schemes using wireless sensor networks have been proposed to achieve superior performance rather than simple flooding scheme. Broadcasting algorithms in wireless sensor networks can be classified into six subcategories: flooding scheme, probabilistic scheme, counter-based scheme, distance-based scheme, location-based schemes, and neighbor knowledge-based scheme. This study analyzes a simple flooding scheme, probabilistic scheme, counter-based scheme, distance-based scheme, and neighbor knowledge-based scheme, and compares the performance and efficiency of each scheme through network simulation.

  • The objective of digital broadcasting has evolved from providing a plain video service to offering a realistic visual experience. Technologies such as 3DTV and UHDTV have been suggested to achieve this new objective by providing an immersive and stereoscopic visual experience. However, owing to the high bandwidth requirements of such services, the broadcasting industry has faced a challenge to find a new transport mechanism for overcoming the bandwidth limitation. The standardization organizations, the Advanced Television Systems Committee, Digital Video Broadcasting, and Telecommunications Technology Association, have been working on the integration of broadcasting and a broadband network (IP) to resolve the bandwidth issue of realistic video services. This paper introduces a frame-level timeline synchronization and transport system target decoder model for providing a stable 3DTV service over a hybrid network. The experimental results indicate that the proposed technologies can be successfully adopted as a reference model in a broadcast-broadband hybrid 3DTV service and other IP-associated hybrid broadcasting services.
