  • The birth of a new mobile medium of communication In 2005, the DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), was celebrated for the mobile and asynchronous personal medium. But now, the most film- & video-channels of this epoch-making medium of communication combine with the rebroadcasting of long play film for cinema oder TV series. The purpose of this study is thus to point out the disharmony between new mobile medium and the old, recycled contents and to propose as an alternative content the digital shortshort moving images.

A multi-hop Communication Scheme in Vehicular Communication Systems (차량통신시스템에서의 멀티홉 전송 방법)

  • Vehicular communication is one of main convergence technologies which combines information and communication technology (ICT) with vehicle and road industries. In general, vehicular communication adopts IEEE 802.11p standard which is commonly referred as wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE). In this paper, we investigate a multi-hop communication scheme for IEEE 802.11p based communication systems which support both vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. First, we briefly overview the performance of IEEE 802.11p based communication systems. Then, a multi-hop communication scheme is introduced for both broadcast and unicast. The performance of proposed scheme is presented via experimental measurements.

  • 최근 IT를 포함한 모든 산업 및 기술 영역에서는 융복합화(Convergence) 현상이 두드러지고 있으며, 이와 같은 현상은 모바일 시장을 필두로 방송 시장에도 본격적으로 도입 및 확산되는 추세이다. 현재 모바일 분야에서 플랫폼 기반으로 스마트폰 생태계를 주도해 온 구글 애플이 구글 TV iTV 등을 통해 스마트 TV 영역으로 플랫폼 확산을 추진 중이며, 삼성전자 LG전자와 같은 기존 TV 제조사들도 자체 개발 플랫폼을 기반으로 하여 스마트 TV 플랫폼 확산을 추진 중이다. 하지만, 각 제조사 및 유료방송 사업자별로 독자 플랫폼 기반의 독자 앱스토어 구축 시도로 인해 시장 파편화 현상(각기 다른 플랫폼 제공, 플랫폼별 제한적인 가입자 기반의 앱 및 개발자 부족, 차별화된 콘텐츠 부족)으로 인해 스마트TV 앱 생태계 구축에 있어서 글로벌 업체와 경쟁할 수 있는 규모의 경제 확립이 불가능한 상황이다. 이에 본 논문은 국내 케이블 방송 사업자들의 스마트 플랫폼 준비 상황 및 앱 생태계 구축 및 활성화를 위한 공동 앱스토어 추진 현황에 대해 연구하였다. 이를 위해 각 케이블 가입자가 채택한 스마트 플랫폼별 주요 특징, 공동 앱스토어 구축을 위한 표준화 진행 현황, 앱스토어 구축 현황 및 계획을 정리하였다.

A FAST INTRA PREDICTION MODE SELECTION METHOD IN H.264/AVC SCALABLE VIDEO CODING

  • In this paper, we propose a fast intra prediction mode selection method in Scalable Video Coding(SVC) which is an emerging video coding standard as an extension of H.264/Advanced Video Coding(H.264/AVC). The proposed method decides a candidate intra prediction mode based on the characteristic of macroblock smoothness. Statistical analysis is applied to computing that smoothness in spatial enhancement layer. We also propose an early termination scheme for Intra_BL mode decision where the RD cost value of Intra_BL is utilized. Compared with JSVM software, our scheme can reduce about 55% of the computation complexity of intra prediction on average, while the performance degradation is negligible; For low QP values, the average PSNR loss is very negligible, equivalently the bit rate increases by 0.01%. For high QP values, the average PSNR loss is less than 0.01dB, which equals to 0.25% increase in bitrate on average.

  • 최근 IT를 포함한 모든 산업 및 기술 영역에서는 포준화 활동을 기반으로 하여 융복합화(Convergence) 현상이 두드러지고 있다. 이는 또한 e-Learning 산업 및 기술에서도 큰 화두이다. 현재 e-Learning 표준화에서 시장에서 주도권을 행사하고 있는 것은 ADL의 SCORM 규격이다. 데이터방송 영역에서는, 북미에서 지상파와 케이블 TV간 콘텐츠 호환성 확보를 위해 ATSC와 케이블랩(CableLabs)이 공동 연구 중인 ACAP을 통해서 지상파-케이블 공통 표준화가 진행중이다. 이에 본 논문은 3-Learning 산업 및 기술에서의 융복합화의 일 영역으로 그리고 방송통신융합서비스의 일환으로 인터넷 기반 학습 환경과 TV 기반 학습 환경에서의 학습 콘텐츠 ( 및 코스웨어) 상호운용성에 대해 연구하였다. 이를 위하여 인터넷 기반의 e-Learning의 사실상의 표준으로 받아들여지고 있는 SCORM 규격과 DTV 환경 기반의 데이터방송 지상파-케이블 공통 규격인 ACAP간의 상호운용 API 개발을 통하여, SCORM 규격과 ACAP 규격의 상호운용성을 가능하게 하는 학습 콘텐츠 및 T-Learning 운용환경을 연구$\cdot$개발하였다.

  • This paper introduces interactive multi-view contents authoring system based on MPEG-4. The MPEG-4 standard, which aims to provide an object based audiovisual coding tool, has been developed to address the emerging needs from communications, interactive broadcasting as well as from mixed service models resulting from technological convergence. Due to the feature of object based coding, it has been considered that MPEG-4 is the most suitable for interactive broadcasting content production. This feature is suitable for creation of the content which provides multiple views of object or scene in interactive manner. In this paper, we categorize the multi-view visual content into two types: panoramic multi-view content and object multi-view content. And design and implementation of the authoring system for interactive multi-view contents is presented. We believe that the proposed method can be effectively used for further deployment of MPEG-4 content to various interactive applications.

  • This paper describes a structure of adaptive equalizer to improve reception performance of ATSC digital television (DTV) for 8-VSB receivers. There are many strong and dynamic echoes affecting reliable reception of DTV signal. Conventional DFE based least mean square (LMS) algorithm is readily implemented and has good Performance. There are still problems to be solved, however, in handling strong echoes and indoor reception. In this paper, structure of adaptive equalizer to mitigate these Problems in strong multipath interference conditions and indoor reception environment is first presented. Methods to reduce error propagation effects on DFE and initialization scheme of filter coefficients for fast convergence are then introduced. Computer simulation results prove that an adaptive equalizer with proposed design methods can combat with Brazil Ensemble and the Threshold of Visibility(TOV) is improved.

  • Because of the convergence between Internet and broadcast communication, users are able to use multimedia contents anytime. In addition, with the change of existing one-way service to two-way service, the provider can offer efficient and useful broadcast communication. However, As multimedia contents is provided by STB, it can validate only end-node STB. Thus, this method is limiting possibilities of individual service. Also, providers' STB are different, so problem of compatibility is emerging as an issue. Therefore, in this paper we proposed STB virtualization based enhanced IPTV user authentication system to improve individual authentication and compatibility of services.

  • In this paper, we consider the potential of a metaverse space that can be expanded infinitely through the reinvention of the metaverse space. In particular, this study attempted to establish a new concept of metaverse space, and to present research models and strategies between technologies and humanities. To perform this, this study revealed problems that can be overlooked through characteristic analysis of the metaverse space and proposed ways to overcome them through in-depth interviews with experts. In this way, interdisciplinary research will contribute to the revitalization of the metaverse content industry in the mid to long term. Therefore, through this study, it is expected that reinterpreted metaverse space can reach a practical realization as a meaningful place of life and a creative space through Yi-Fu Tuan's concept.

  • Metaverse provides a simulated environment that can produce various values while conducting economic, social, and cultural activities in a digital society where the virtual and real worlds are connected. In this paper, the direction of technological progress is predicted by analyzing the characteristics of Metaverse services and their businesses. Technologies and latest researches for the realization of the Metaverse service platform are also explored. In addition, Metaverse Ethics to construct a sustainable Metaverse and Metaverse UX to increase users' service participation are also discussed. Moreover, the R&D promotion strategy for Metaverse services are presented.
