Multi-variate Empirical Mode Decomposition (MEMD) for ambient modal identification of RC road bridge

  • In this paper, an adaptive MEMD based modal identification technique for linear time-invariant systems is proposed employing multiple vibration measurements. Traditional empirical mode decomposition (EMD) suffers from mode-mixing during sifting operations to identify intrinsic mode functions (IMF). MEMD performs better in this context as it considers multi-channel data and projects them into a n-dimensional hypercube to evaluate the IMFs. Using this technique, modal parameters of the structural system are identified. It is observed that MEMD has superior performance compared to its traditional counterpart. However, it still suffers from mild mode-mixing in higher modes where the energy contents are low. To avoid this problem, an adaptive filtering scheme is proposed to decompose the interfering modes. The Proposed modified scheme is then applied to vibrations of a reinforced concrete road bridge. Results presented in this study show that the proposed MEMD based approach coupled with the filtering technique can effectively identify the parameters of the dominant modes present in the structural response with a significant level of accuracy.

강 트러스교 확장공사시 시공중 계측 (Construction Monitoring for Steel Truss Bridge Widening Works)

  • 본 연구에서는 과거 붕괴사고로 인해 큰 사회적 이슈가 되었고 현재 확장공사가 진행 중인 성수대교를 대상 구조물로 하여 시공중 계측을 통한 각 시공단계별 안정성을 확인하였다. 그 결과, 앵커리지 트러스와 서스펜디드 트러스 가설단계별로 측정된 계측값은 구조해석값의 60~110%이고, 선하중 재하에 의해 부재에 발생하는 응력이 해석값과 유사하게 나타났으므로 각각의 부재는 충분한 강성을 가지고 있고 시공 상태도 양호한 것으로 판단되었다. 기존부와 확장부 간의 일체화 여부를 파악하기 위하여 실시한 진동변위 측정 결과, 기존부와 확장부는 횡방향 부재 및 스웨이 브레이싱의 볼트체결로 인해 일체화 된 것으로 확인되었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 교량의 건전도 감시용 계측 유닛에 사용되는 충전시스템을 위한 교량의 상시진동을 이용한 자립형 진동발전기에 대하여 연구하였다. 본 연구에서는 전기자 반작용의 영향을 최소화한 진동발전기를 제안하고, 기계적 및 전기적인 설계식을 유도한 다음, 시험용 진동발전기를 제작하였다. 아울러, 실내 자유진동 실험을 수행하였고, 축전시스템에 대한 실험 결과, 정류기에 사용된 다이오드 특성이 충전과정에서 지배적임을 확인하였다. 또한, 남해대교의 진동 데이터를 Pilot 발전기에 적용하여 시뮬레이션 한 결과 진동발전기의 적용성과 효용성을 확인할 수 있었다.

Hot spot stress approach for Tsing Ma Bridge fatigue evaluation under traffic using finite element method

  • The hot spot stress approach is usually adopted in the fatigue design and analysis of tubular welded joints. To apply the hot spot stress approach for fatigue evaluation of long span suspension bridges, the FEM is used to determine the hot spot stress of critical fatigue location. Using the local finite element models of the Tsing Ma Bridge, typical joints are developed and the stress concentration factors are determined. As a case for study, the calculated stress concentration factor is combined with the nominal representative stress block cycle to obtain the representative hot spot stress range cycle block under traffic loading from online health monitoring system. A comparison is made between the nominal stress approach and the hot spot stress approach for fatigue life evaluation of the Tsing Ma Bridge. The comparison result shows that the nominal stress approach cannot consider the most critical stress of the fatigue damage location and the hot spot stress approach is more appropriate for fatigue evaluation.

Condition assessment of bridge pier using constrained minimum variance unbiased estimator

  • Inverse analysis of non-linear reinforced concrete bridge pier using recursive Gaussian filtering for in-situ condition assessment is the main theme of this work. For this purpose, minimum variance unbiased estimation using unscented sigma points is adopted here. The uniqueness of this inverse analysis lies in its approach for strain based updating of engineering demand parameters, where appropriate bound and constrained conditions are introduced to ensure numerical stability and convergence. In this analysis, seismic input is also identified, which is an added advantage for the structures having no dedicated sensors for earthquake measurement. First, the proposed strategy is tested with a simulated example whose hysteretic properties are obtained from the slow-cyclic test of a frame to investigate its efficiency and accuracy. Finally, the experimental test data of a full-scale bridge pier is used to study its in-situ condition in terms of Park & Ang damage index. Overall the study shows the ability of the augmented minimum variance unbiased estimation based recursive time-marching algorithm for non-linear system identification with the aim to estimate the engineering damage parameters that are the fundamental information necessary for any future decision making for retrofitting/rehabilitation.

PDA와 광섬유 센서를 이용한 교량의 무선계측 시스템 개발 (Development of Wireless Measurement System for Bridge Using PDA and Fiber Optical Sensor)

  • 본 연구에서는 FBG 센서 및 PDA를 이용하여 새로운 안전관리 시스템인 무선 계측 시스템을 개발하기 위해 FBG 센서를 이용하여 광섬유 변위(FBG-LVDT) 센서, 광섬유 변형률(FBG-STRAIN) 센서, 광섬유 온도(FBG-TEMP) 센서 그리고 광섬유 가속도(FBG-ACC) 센서를 특별 제작하였다. 또한, 신호처리 시스템에는 적용된 FBG 센서들의 무선송신 시스템이 가능하도록 신호처리 시스템을 구성하였으며, PDA를 이용하여 원격 거리에서도 display가 가능할 수 있도록 프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발된 FBG 센서들과 무선계측 모니터링 시스템의 현장 적용성, 정확성 및 활용 가능성을 검증하고자 현장 교량에서 정적, 동적 재하시험을 실시하였다. 또한, FBG-LVDT 센서, FBG-ACC 센서에 의하여 측정된 동적 데이터들은 Meister의 진동등감각 곡선에 적용시킴으로서 교량의 진동에 대한 사용성 평가를 실시하였고 교량의 진동 사용성을 고려하여 진동 제한 기준을 제시하여 대상 교량의 진동 평가를 위한 방법을 마련하였다.

  • Such social structures as bridges, buildings, dams and towers have been transformed by their own load or fundamental ground. They have been behaved by other external causes. These regular or irregular behaviors threaten to do their users safety. Therefore, to monitor the load of the structures or reaction shown by them could help to verify their behaviors. RTK GPS allows the use of a static base station and remote rover unit to allow for data collection within several seconds and in real time. It is useful for monitoring the behaviors of massive structures like bridges. In this Study, Among GPS methods, we used RTK GPS to analyze the precision of monitoring and then on the basis of it, we developed a monitoring system using RTK GPS when measured the behavior of main tower of a suspension bridge by using RTK GPS. Comparing a deviation between observation values, X axis was 1mm, Y axis was 1mm and Z axis 2.2mm. It turned out that it was possible to monitor and measure structures by RTK GPS.

무선 랜 통신을 이용한 기계 상태감시용 스마트 센서 (Smart Sensor for Machine Condition Monitoring Using Wireless LAN)

  • Smart sensor is known as intelligent sensor, it is different with other conventional sensors in the case of intelligent system embedded on it. Smart sensor has many benefits e.g. low-cost in usage, self-decision and self-diagnosis abilities. This sensor consists of perception element(sensing element), signal processing and technology of communication. In this work, a bridge and structure of smart sensor has been investigated to be capable to condition monitoring routine. This investigation involves low power consumption, software programming, fast data acquisition ability, and authoritativeness warranty. Moreover, this work also develops smart sensor to be capable to perform high sampling rate, high resolution of ADC, high memory capacity, and good communication for data transfer. The result shows that the developed smart sensor is promising to be applied to various industrial fields.

기구축 계측시스템의 안전관리 네트워크 시스템 연계 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Combination of the Existing Monitoring System with the Safety Management Network System)

  • 본 연구에서는 기구축 계측시스템의 안전관리 네트워크 시스템(국토해양부, 2008) 연계 가능성을 타진하기 위해서 신공항하이웨이(주) 관할 현수교인 영종대교 계측시스템의 안전관리 네트워크 시스템 연계 시범구축을 실시하였다. 기구축 계측시스템 데이터 연계를 위하여 DAQ Sender 서버 프로그램과 DAQ Receiver 서버 프로그램으로 구성되는 연계 프로그램을 개발하였다. DAQ Sender 서버 프로그램은 기구축 계측시스템 전산센터 내 중립지역 (DMZ ZONE)de미리 설치 서버계서버설치되운영되는 프로그램으로 기구축 계측시스템과의 통신을 담당한다. DAQ Receiver 서버 프로그램은 안전 관리 네트워크 시스템 통합운영 센터 내 연계서버에 설치되어 운영되는 프로그램으로 DAQ Sender와 통신을 통해 실시 간 및 기간이력 데이터를 수집하고 이를 통합운영 서버에 저장하는 역할을 수행한다. 본 시범구축 결과 기구축 계측시스템으로부터 연계항목을 구성하고 실시간 및 기간이력 데이터를 성공적으로 연계 할 수 있었다. 따라서 향후 각 기구축 계측시스템들을 통합할 때 필요한 연계방안의 토대를 마련할 수 있었다.

  • Calibration and gauge factor readjustment process made for the health monitoring system installed in the railway bridges is reviewed and some findings are explained in this study: specifically, the calibrators made for this purpose are illustrated and the regression processes of the calibration on long-term displacement using water level sensor, longitudinal displacement using LVDT sensor, instantaneous displacement using LVDT sensors and accelerometer are described in details. Based on the regression results, new gauge factors are obtained from regression equation and another verification is made by performing another calibration again with new factors. From the second calibration, it was found that the suggested regression curves and their factors are appropriate and much better results are expected. Future work will be concentrated on the long-term analysis of the measurement data and on the database structures so that the assessment of the structure such as damage detection and remaining life estimation is possible.
