Effects of maternal dietary energy restriction on laying performance, embryonic development, and lipid metabolism in broilers

  • Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different degrees of maternal dietary energy restriction on lipid deposition in embryonic tissues during the medium laying period (37 to 39 weeks) in Arbor Acres (AA) broiler breeders. Methods: A single factor design was adopted, and 400 AA broiler breeders (20 weeks of age) with a similar weight were randomly allocated into four groups. The birds in the control group were fed a corn-soybean meal based diet, and those in trial groups were fed diets with 80%, 70%, and 50% energy levels of the basal diet. Incubated eggs from the medium laying period were collected. Samples of developing embryos at various stages were prepared for composition analysis. Results: The embryo weight in the 80% energy group was higher than those of the other groups on embryonic day (E) 13, but at 21 E, they were significantly decreased with decreasing energy intake of the broiler breeders (p<0.05). Additionally, the levels of crude fat in tissues in the restriction groups were significantly decreased (p<0.05). The long axis and area of adipocytes in breast muscle, thigh muscle and the liver were significantly decreased (p<0.05) at 21 E in the 80%, 70%, and 50% energy groups. Conclusion: The effects of the 80% maternal dietary energy restriction energy affects egg production performance, egg quality, and nutrient deposition in egg weights, which then directly impacts on the developmental process of embryos, especially on fat utilization and deposition.

초음파 가열 시 In Vitro 및 In Vivo에서 Microwave Radio-Thermometer와 탐침온도계의 일치도 (In Vitro and In Vivo Agreement of Microwave Radio-Thermometer and Needle Probe Thermometer During Therapeutic Ultrasound)

  • Therapeutic ultrasound is commonly applied for deep heating in physical therapy setting. However, it is difficult to determine the exact application dosage and to confirm the immediate heating effect. Microwave Radio-Thermometer (MRT) can measure the temperature by the electromagnetic energy in the microwave region of the object that emits above absolute zero temperature. MRT was used for early diagnosis of breast cancer since it was not harmful, non-invasive, and non-ionizing to the human body. The purposes of this study were to investigate how accurately 1.1 GHz RTM (RES Ltd. Russia) measures the change of average temperature in the tissue, and to determine the depth of temperature change measurement. Therapeutic ultrasound was applied (continuous wave for 5 minutes, 1 MHz, intensity of 1.5 $W/cm^2$ [in vitro] and 1.0 $W/cm^2$ [in vivo]) in four different conditions: (1) 30 cases of in vitro specimen of pork, (2) 30 cases of in vitro specimen of pork ankle joint, (3) 10 cases of in vivo canine thigh, and (4) 30 cases of in vivo human body. Intraclass Correlation Coeffients (ICC[3,1]) between average needle probe thermometer below surface and MRT temperature was revealed as followed: (1) Before ultrasound application ICCs ranges above .8 in specimen of pork (15 mm underneath the skin) and above .82 in specimen of pork ankle joint (10~30 mm underneath the skin). (2) After ultrasound application ICCs ranges above .7 in both specimens of pork and pork ankle joint. (3) Before ultrasound application ICCs ranges above .8 in canine thigh (20 mm underneath the skin). (4) After ultrasound application ICCs ranges above .82 in canine thigh. The temperature of the human body increased significantly with the mean of $15^{\circ}C$ in muscle tissue and with the mean of $3.5^{\circ}C$ in joint (p<.00). It was revealed that the average depth of temperature measurement of the tissue by MRT was in between 10 and 35 mm, and determined that the proper temperature measurement band was $36.5{\sim}37.0^{\circ}C$.

사료내 Conjugated Linoleic Acid 첨가수준이 육계의 생산성, 도체특성 및 근내 지방산 조성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Dietary Conjugated Linoleic Acid on Growth Performance, Carcass Characteristics and Muscular Fatty Acid Composition in Broiler)

  • 본 연구는 CLA를 육계사료에 첨가하여 그 급여수준(0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 및 2.0%)에 따라 육계의 생산성과 CLA를 급여한 계육의 도체특성, 혈청콜레스테롤 및 지방산조성의 변화를 검토하고자 육계 200수(Arbor Acre Broiler, male)를 5주 동안 공시하였다 육계의 생산성을 나타내는 증체량, 사료섭취량 및 사료요구율은 CLA급여에 따른 유의성은 없었다. 도체특성중 도체율뿐만 아니라 도체중에 대한 간, 대퇴부위, 흉심 및 북채의 비율은 CLA를 급여함으로서 유의한 변화가 없었지만, 복강지방 비율은 CLA 급여량이 많아짐에 따라 유의한 감소 현상을 확인할 수 있었다(p<0.05). 혈청콜레스테롤은 CLA급여량이 증가할 수록 총콜레스테롤과 LDL-C은 감소하고, HDL-C은 증가하였다(p<0.05). 그리고 지방산 조성 변화는 CLA를 급여함에 따라 palmitic acid는 증가하고, oleic acid, linoleic acid 및 arachidonic acid는 감소하여 포화지방산은 증가하고 불포화지방산은 감소하는 현상을 보였다. 또한, CLA의 이성체함량도 CLA급여량이 증가함에 따라 직선적으로 증가하였다(p<0.05). 결론적으로 계육에 CLA 축적을 극대화하기 위해서는 2%까지 급여도 가능하지만. 지방산조성의 변화가 심하므로 CLA도 축적시키고 지방산 변화도 최소화할 수 있는 1%의 급여수준이 적합할 것으로 판단된다.

Carotenoid의 급여가 산란노계의 도체 착색에 미치는 영향

  • This study was performed to measure the effect of carotenoid polarity on absorption and Pigmentation in blood, muscle, and skin of laying hens. Carotenoids used in this study and Polarity were ${\beta}$-8-Apo-carotenoic acid ethyl ester(ACAEE) > astaxanthin > canthaxanthin > ${\beta}$-carotene. The chickens used in this study were 61∼78 weeks old ISA brown laying hens. Experiment #1 was designed to measure the effect of carotenoid level on the accumulation of carotenoids in carcass of laying hens after feeding for 6 weeks. D-carotene was accumulated in skin only at a detectable level when it was fed at 300 mg/kg feed. The skin was pigmented as yellow when it was measured by colorimeter. The concentration of ${\beta}$-carotene in blood was proportional to that in the feed. Pigmentation of muscle by 9-carotene was not effective. Canthaxanthin significantly increased redness of the skin(p<0.05). However, canthaxanthin did not pigment muscle. The level of canthaxanthin in the blood and skin increased as the concentration in feed increased. ACAEE at 200 and 300 mg/kg feed significantly increased yellowness of the skin(p<0.05). At all levels of ACAEE used($\geq$50 mg/kg feed) the b values of colorimeter increased. With increases in the contents of ACAEE, the concentration of ACAEE in the blood and skin increased. Compared to ${\beta}$-carotene, ACAEE and canthaxanthin were absorbed 9- and 3-fold more into the blood, respectively. The concentration of ACAEE and canthaxanthin in the skin was 1/10 of those in the blood. The lower were the concentrations of carotenoids in the feed, the higher were the absorption rates(from feed to blood and from blood to skin) The results indicated that the higher was the polarity of carotenoids, the more effective were the absorption and pigmentation. In experiment #2, the effect of carotenoid levels of feed on the accumulation of carotenoids in each body part of laying hens was determined. The colorimeter values for redness and yellowness significantly increased when canthaxanthin was fed at $\geq$50 mg/kg feed(p<0.05). Breast and thigh were not affected by feeding of canthaxanthin at the levels used. The L values of muscle but not the a and b values were significantly affected by feeding at $\geq$200 mg/kg feed for wings and breasts, respectively. The yellowness of skin and muscle significantly increased when ACAEE was fed at $\geq$ 100 and $\geq$ 200 mg/kg feed, respectively(p<0.05).

Effect of Brewery Waste Replacement of Concentrate on the Performance of Local and Crossbred Growing Muscovy Ducks

  • Two experiments were carried out to evaluate the effects of brewery waste (BW) replacement of concentrate (C) in growing duck diets. In Exp. 1, which was carried out on-station, 300 ducklings were allocated in a $2{\times}5$ factorial experiment: Two breeds (local Muscovy and crosses of French and local Muscovy)${\times}5$ levels of C and with BW offered ad libitum. Concentrate only ad libitum as the control diet (C100), and levels of 75% (C75), 50% (C50), 25% (C25) and 0% (C0) of the amount of the control diet consumed, and with BW ad libitum. In Exp. 2, 200 ducklings were allocated in a $2{\times}2$ factorial experiment on five smallholdings: two breeds (local and crossbred Muscovy ducks)${\times}2$ diets (the C100 and C50 diets from Exp.1). In Exp.1 total dry matter (DM), BW, crude fiber (CF) and crude protein (CP) intakes were highest on the C0 diet and ME and lysine intakes lowest (p<0.001). Daily live weight gains were higher for the crossbred ducks than for the local Muscovies (p<0.05) and were highest for treatments C100 and C50, and lowest for treatment C0 (p<0.05). Weights of breast muscle, liver and abdominal fat were significantly higher for the crossbred ducks. Breast and thigh muscle and abdominal fat weights were significantly higher for the C100, C75 and C50 diets, while gizzard weights were highest for the C25 and C0 treatments. Net profits were higher for the crosses, and for treatments C50 and C25. In Exp. 2 total DM, CF and CP intakes were significantly higher for the C50 diet, and ME intakes lower (p<0.001). Daily gains of the crosses were significantly higher than those of the local Muscovy ducks, and were similar for the C100 and C50 diets. The highest net profits were from the crosses and ducks fed the C50 diet. It was concluded that BW can replace 50% of the concentrate in growing Muscovy duck diets without reducing daily live weight gains and with improved economic benefits.

Growth Performance, Carcass Characteristics, Nutrient Digestibility and Serum Biochemical Parameters of Broilers Fed Low-protein Diets Supplemented with Various Ratios of Threonine to Lysine

  • This study was conducted to evaluate performance, breast (thigh) muscle yield, nutrient digestibility and serum biochemical parameters of broilers fed low-protein diets supplemented with various threonine to lysine ratios (Thr/Lys). Three hundred and twenty four day-old male Arbor Acres broilers were randomly allotted to six dietary treatments with six replicates per treatment and nine broilers per replicate. Six treatments included one control diet [formulated according to NRC (1994)], and five experimental diets (treatments 1-5). In treatments 1-5, the crude protein level was 2% lower than that of the NRC control diet. The Thr/Lys in treatments 1-5 was 0.65, 0.70, 0.75, 0.80 and 0.85 during the starter and grower phases and 0.70, 0.75, 0.80, 0.85 and 0.90 during the finisher phase with other nutrient levels kept consistent. The results showed that: (1) With increasing Thr/Lys, ADG of treatments 1, 3 and 4 were lower (p<0.05) than those of the NRC control diet during the starter phase; ADG of treatments 1-5 were lower (p<0.05) than those of the NRC control during the grower phase, and ADG of treatment 1 was lower (p<0.05) than that of the NRC control during the finisher phase. Average daily feed intake in treatments 1 and 4 were lower (p<0.05) than that of broilers on the NRC control diet during the grower phase. Feed/gain (F/G) of the NRC control diet was lowest (p<0.05) during the starter phase. F/G in treatments 2 and 5 were higher (p<0.05) than that of NRC during the grower phase. (2) Breast muscle proportion on d 21 increased linearly (p<0.05) in response to graded levels of Thr/Lys. (3) No differences were detected for dry matter, energy and crude protein digestibility among all seven treatments. (4) On d 21, serum triglyceride of broilers on dietary treatments 3 and 5 was higher (p<0.05) than that of broilers in control. The results indicate that the low-protein diets supplemented with an appropriate Thr/Lys could not support the same performance that was achieved by the broilers fed the NRC control diet.

Response of broilers to supplementation of branched-chain amino acids blends with different valine contents in the starter period under summer conditions

  • Objective: The objectives of this study were to compare the effects of normal and low protein content (PC) of starter diet supplemented or not with blends of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) on growth performance of broilers under summer conditions and to investigate whether these effects altered some quality traits and the characteristics of gastrointestinal tract. Methods: A total of 768 mixed-sex broiler chicks (Ross 308, one-d-old) with an average initial body weight (BW) of 47.6±1.03 g were allocated into six treatments with four replications in 2×3 factorial arrangement. Factors were: PC, normal (N, 22% to d 15); and low (L, 20% to d 15); and added BCAA blends, L-leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-valine at zero (0L:0I:0V); 1.0, 0.25, and 0.25 (4L:1I:1V); or 1.0, 0.25, 0.75 (4L:1I:3V) g/kg of diet. Hence, six dietary treatments were named as N0L:0I:0V, N4L:1I:1V, N4L:1I:3V, L0L:0I:0V, L4L:1I:1V, and L4L:1I:3V. Average indoor temperature and humidity were 32.8℃±1.7℃ and 61.1%±4.12%, respectively. Results: BW, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and carcass weight were not affected by PC, BCCA and their interaction (p>0.05). The L diets decreased the water holding capacity of the breast (p = 0.002) and thigh (p = 0.050) meats and dressing percentage (p = 0.005) compared to the N diets. The 4L:1I:1V diet decreased breast yield compared to the 0L:0I:0V diets (p = 0.041). The effect of PC on feed intake, mortality and gastrointestinal trait weight were depended on the L:I:V ratios under summer conditions due to interactions between factors (p<0.05). The FI and mortality of L4L:1I:1V broilers were lower than those of N4L:1I:1V birds (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that the blends of BCAAs used failed to improve performance and to promote breast yields, because diets with normal or with reduced protein supplemented or not with BCAAs up to d 15 produced a similar BW and FCR in broilers raised in hot-climate conditions.

소나무껍질 추출물(피타민)을 섭취한 닭고기의 품질 및 저장성 (The Shelf Life and Meat Quality of Broilers Fed Pine Bark Extract (Pitamin))

  • 소나무껍질 추출물인 피타민은 다양한 생리활성을 발휘하는 항산화 및 항균제로서 알려져 있으며, 이러한 물질은 또한 인간의 삶에서 폭넓게 이용되었다. 브로일러 사료 내 피타민 프리믹스가 닭가슴살의 품질특성, TBARS 평가 및 관능평가에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위해서 35일간의 실험을 수행하였다. 실험처리구 4개는 대조구, 항생제 0.1% 첨가구, 피타민 프리믹스 0.1%, 피타민 프리믹스 0.2% 첨가구로 구분하였다. 닭 가슴살의 단백질과 아미노산 함량은 각 처리구간 통계적인 유의차가 없었다. 피타민 프리믹스 첨가사료를 섭취한 닭고기의 pH는 대조구 및 항생제 첨가구 보다도 낮았으나, 닭 가슴살의 보수력은 피타민 프리믹스 첨가구가 대조구 및 항생제 첨가구에 비해서 유의적으로 높았다(p<0.05). 닭 껍질을 포함한 다리살의 TBARS 값은 저장일수가 증가함에 따라서 높아지는 경향이었으며, 피타민 프리믹스 첨가구가 대조구 및 항생제 첨가구에 비해서 유의적으로 낮았다(p<0.05). 항생제 첨가구를 제외한 삶은 닭고기의 관능평가 성적은 피타민 프리믹스 첨가구가 대조구에 비해서 유의적으로 높았다(p<0.05). 이 결과는 브로일러 사료 내 피타민 프리믹스가 닭고기의 품질, 맛, 향 그리고 저장성을 향상시킬 수 있음을 시사해준다.

닭고기의 품질 및 맛에 관한 계피 급여효과 (Effect of Dietary Cinnamon Powder on Savor and Quality of Chicken Meat in Broiler Chickens)

  • 브로일러에서 계피의 첨가급여가 브로일러의 성장능력, 혈액지질, 도체특성, 닭고기의 품질특성 및 계피맛, 향과 관련한 닭고기의 맛에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 병아리는 CNP를 함유하지 않은 대조구, CNP 2.0%, CNP 3.0%, CNP 4.0% 및 CNP 5.0% 첨가구로 구분하였다. 브로일러의 사료섭취량, 사료효율은 대조구와 비교할 때 처리구간 차이가 없었으나 체중은 CNP 3% 이상으로 첨가수준이 증가함에 따라서 유의적인 개선을 나타냈다(p<0.05). 혈액의 중성지방, HDL-C는 대조구에 비해서 CNP 첨가수준이 높아질수록 증가하는 경향을 나타냈으나, 총 콜레스테롤, LDL-C는 뚜렷하게 감소하였으며 각 처리구간 통계적 유의차가 있었다(p<0.05). 도체율은 CNP 첨가구가 대조구에 비해서 높았고, 닭 다리살은 CNP 3.0% 이상에서 증가하였으며, 닭 가슴살은 CNP 2.0%와 4.0% 첨가구가 높은 경향이었다(p<0.05). 닭 가슴살의 pH는 대조구와 비교하여 유의차가 없었으나, 보수력은 CNP 4% 이상 첨가수준이 높아질수록 증가하였고, TBARS는 CNP 3% 이상 첨가수준이 높아질수록 유의적으로 낮아졌다(p<0.05). 닭 가슴살의 육색은 CNP 첨가수준이 3% 이상 증가할수록 대조구에 비해서 더욱 밝은 색을 나타냈다(p<0.05). 닭 다리살 튀김과 삶은 닭 가슴살에서 계피와 관련한 맛, 향에 대한 관능평가 성적은 대조구와 비교할 때 CNP 첨가수준이 높아질수록 유의적으로 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 본 실험에서 나타난 중요한 점은 브로일러 사료에 계피를 첨가 급여해줌으로써 닭고기의 도체특성과 맛을 개선할 수 있다는 사실이었다.

유창 및 무창계사의 사육 밀도에 따른 닭고기 등급 및 PSE육 출현에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Stocking Density on Chicken Meat Grades and PSE Incidence in Broiler House with or without Window)

  • 닭고기의 사육 형태에 따라 유창계사와 무창계사로 구분하고 또한 사육 밀도에 따라 고밀도, 표준, 저밀도 사육구로 구분하여 창의 유무와 사육 밀도가 최종 닭고기의 품질에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 평가하고자 실시하였다. 유창계사에서는 고밀도 사육 시 닭도체의 $1^+$ 등급 발생율이 고밀도 사육($0.05\;m^2$/수)은 26%, 표준 사육($0.066\;m^2$/수)은 52%, 저밀도사육($0.083\;m^2$/수)은 66%로 저밀도 사육이 고밀도 사육에 비해 2.5배 이상 증가하였다. 가슴육의 PSE 및 품질은 고밀도 사육에서 $1^+$ 등급은 76%를 차지하였으나, 저밀도 사육구에서는 86%로 사육 밀도가 낮을수록 $1^+$ 등급 발생 비율이 증가하였다. PSE 증상은 고밀도 사육구에서 경증, 중증 각각 4%를 나타냈고, 저밀도 사육구에서는 PSE 증상이 전혀 나타나지 않았다. 다리육은 $1^+$ 등급 출현율이 고밀도 사육구에서는 88%, 표준 사육구는 83%, 저밀도 사육구는 91%로 표준 사육구에서 83%로 약간 저하되었으며, 전체적으로 사육 밀도에 따라 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 무창계사에서는 $1^+$ 등급 발생율이 고밀도 사육($0.035\;m^2$/수)은 18%, 표준 사육($0.046\;m^2$/수)은 8%, 저밀도 사육($0.058\;m^2$/수)은 46%로 저밀도 사육이 고밀도 사육에 비해 2.6배 이상 증가하였다. 가슴육은 고밀도 사육에서 $1^+$ 등급은 58%를 차지하였으나 저밀도 사육구에서는 72%으로 사육 밀도가 낮을수록 $1^+$ 등급 발생 비율이 증가하였다. 다리육은 $1^+$ 등급 출현율이 고밀도 사육구에서는 88%, 표준 사육구는 83%, 저밀도 사육구는 91%로 표준 사육구에서 83%으로 약간 저하되었으나, 전체적으로 사육 밀도에 따라 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 이상의 결과로서 유창계사에서는 고밀도 사육 시 닭고기의 $1^+$ 등급 발생 비율이 현저히 저하될 뿐 아니라 가슴 부위의 딱지 비율이 급격히 증가되었고, 무창계사는 유창계사와 비슷한 경향을 보였고, 환기 및 배수 시설이 불량할 경우는 오히려 유창계사에서 생산된 닭고기 보다 품질이 떨어지는 것을 확인하였다.
