Design Optimization of an Enhanced Stop-band UWB Bow-Tie Antenna

  • An improved design of Ultra Wide Band(UWB) Bow-Tie antenna, which can control an enhanced wide stop-band, is presented. The mutually coupled slot-pair improves and controls the rejection band. The UWB antenna is composed of an electromagnetically coupled Bow-Tie patch and a parasitic ground patch, whose working frequency is extended to full UWB range in this work. By adding slot-pairs on the main patch and optimizing, they can give any requested wide rejection bands and sharp skirt characteristics, as is often required for UWB antennas and multi-band antennas. All the parameters are precisely calculated by an adequate optimization method. The Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) technique is appropriately adopted. The proposed design and method is proved to give and control the sharp-skirt wide stop-band to UWB Bow-Tie antennas.

  • There are many researches to increase bandwidth of the microstrip patch antenna for wireless LAN. In spite of broad bandwidth, Bow-Tie microstrip patch antenna, broadband microstrip patch antenna, has disadvantages that are low gain and big size. In this paper, stacked Bow-Tie microstrip patch antenna for wireless LAN is designed in 5.725∼5.825㎓ band. This antenna has characteristics that are broadband bandwidth, high gain and small size compared with microstrip patch antenna. In simulated results, the return loss is -34.2㏈ at 5.78㎓ and bandwidth is 11.345% for VSWR 2:1 and 7.75% for VSWR 1.5:1. In measured results, the return loss is -38.45㏈ at 5.78㎓ and bandwidth is 13% for VSWR 2:1 and 5.6% for VSWR 1.5:1. It has 59.37$^{\circ}$-3㏈ beam width and 6.5㏈ gain.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the impedance characteristic of the bow-tie antenna for the broadband operation. The pulsed subsurface radar uses the impulse to collect information for subsurface objects, so the broadband antenna is used to minimize reflections in the feed point for the broadband characteristic of impulse. Therefore, in this paper we analyzed the broadband bow-tie antenna with Ensemble 5.0.

  • This paper proposes a planar bow-tie UWB antenna by modifying the ground patch of a reference bowtie-monopole antenna satisfying low band of UWB. The proposed antenna was implemented with five-angled ground patch to be operated in whole UWB band, while the reference antenna had a ground patch of half circle type. The measured return loss satisfies less than -10 dB in 3.1~10.6 GHz, except 4.9~5.8 GHz rejection band. The measured radiation pattern is almost the same with that of the monopole antenna. The radiation gain reduction is about 8 dB at rejection band.

A Miniaturized and Band Rejection Characteristic of Bow-Tie Monopole UWB Antenna (보우-타이 모노폴 UWB 안테나의 소형화 및 대역 저지 특성)

  • In this paper, a miniaturized bow-tie monopole UWB antenna with band rejection characteristic is proposed. To miniaturize the proposed antenna, a perfect magnetic wall(PMW) condition is applied to primitive bow-tie monopole antenna. An uneven ground patch, a tapered feeding structure and a edge-chopped main patch are adapted for impedance matching. A quater-lambda slot resonator is inserted at main patch to prevent interference in UWB band from another band. The proposed antenna is fabricated on Taconic RF60-A substrate with relative permittivity of 6.15. The size of the proposed antenna is $30.0{\times}39.7mm^2$, which is only 45 % of the conventional bow-tie monopole antenna. The proposed antenna covers full UWB band with return losses less than -10 dB and has band stop characteristic in 5 GHz WLAN band. The maximum gains are within -1.0~5.0 dBi, the group delay variations are within 1.0 ns and the radiation patterns show directivity characteristics in x-y plane.

  • In this paper, a meander-type microstrip patch antenna for application in 5GHz-band is designed and fabricated. To obtain enough bandwidth in VSWR<2, the foam is inserted between substrate and ground plane, the coaxial probe source is used. Antenna is simulated varing the length and width of meander line, the position of probe feeding and the thick of airgap. Later anterlna is fabricated with optimizated antenna parameter. The measured result of Fabricated antenna obtained $1GHz(17.5\%)$ bandwidth in VSWR<2$, the gain of $.3\sim9.5$dBi, Unidirectional pattern.

  • GPR은 건물의 크랙, 지중 매설물과 같은 정보를 수집하기 위해 좁은 펄스를 사용하므로 넓은 대역의 주파수 특성을 가진다. 본 논문에서는 광대역 특성을 가지는 안테나를 마이크로스트립을 이용하여 보우타이 형태로 설계하였다. 설계 기판으로는 $\varepsilon$$_{r}$=4.0, t=1.6 mm의 FR-4 유전체 기판을 사용하였다. 제작된 안테나는 S$_{11}$<-10 ㏈에서 10.62%의 대역폭을 가지고, 5.778GHz에서 -33.3 ㏈의 S$_{11}$과 1.04의 VSWR 값을 나타내었다.

  • Subsurface radar characterize a broadband frequency to collect a information, such as a crack of building, because of using narrow pulse. In this paper, we design a broadband bowtie antenna, using a microstrip, with a FR-4 substrate of ${\varepsilon}_r=4.0$, t=1.6mm. It has a 9.31% bandwidth at s11<-10 dB and s11=-27.45 dB, VSWR=1.089 at 5.78GHz.
