한국산 속단의 생약학적 연구 (Pharmacognostical Studies on the 'SogDan' from Korea)

  • 'SogDan(續斷)' is one of the crude drugs used mainly as a tonic and analgesic. The botanical origin of the crude drug has never been studied pharmacognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of SogDan from Korea, the anatomical characteristics of Phlomis umbrosa Turcz. and Phlomis koraiensis Nakai were studied. As a result, it was clarified that SogDan from Korea was the root of Phlomis umbrosa.

  • The flowers of Alcea rosea L., Malvaceae, sold in the Indian market under the trade name 'Gulkhairo', are well known for their expectorant, cooling and diuretic properties and used in many indigenous cough mixtures in India. The present paper deals with the detailed pharmacognosy of the floral parts including morphological, anatomical, phytochemical and fluorescence characters. Some of the diagnostic features of the drug are : pedicel characterized by multicellular appendages, stellate hairs, rosette crystals of Ca-oxalate, starch sheath and large sized mucilage canals; sepals having distinctive multicellular appendages arranged in a semilunar fashion present adaxially at their base; monadelphous stamens, pollen grains pentaporate provided with dimorphic spines; placentation axile, ovules campylotropous; dark green fluorescence of the powder with nitrocellulose in amyl acetate and yellow fluorescence of trichomes under Fluorescence microscope.

민간약 머루잎의 생약학적 연구 (Pharmacognostical Studies on the Folk 'Medicine MeoRuIp')

  • Korean folk medicine 'MeoRuIp' has been used to cure cough, rheumatism and abdominal pain after child birth. There has been no pharmacognostical confirmation on the botanical origin of the crude drug. To clarify the botanical origin of 'MeoRuIp', the morphological and anatomical characteristics of the leaves of Vitis and Ampelopsis species growing in Korea, i.e. Vitis amurensis, V. amurensis forma. glabrescens, V. flexuosa, V. thunbergii var. sinuata and Ampelopsis brevipedunculata var. heterophylla were studied. As a result, it was clarified that 'MeoRuIp' was the leaf of Vitis amurensis and Vitis flexuosa.

  • 'NuRo (漏蘆)' is one of the crude drugs which has been used for removal of fever and skin disease. With regard to the botanical origin of 'NuRo', it has been considered to be Echinops species of Compositae, but there has no pharmacognostical confirmation on it. To clarify the botanical origin of 'NuRo', the anatomical characteristics of the root of Echinops latifolius and E. setifer were studied. As a result, it was clarified that 'NuRo' from Korea was the root of Echinops setifer.

  • Seung Ma(升摩) is a famous Chinese crude drug used for treatment of fever, piles and suppurative inflamation. With regard to the botanical origin of Seung Ma, it has been considered to be Cimicifuga spicies of Ranunculaceae, but there has no phrarmacognostical confirmation on it. To clarify the botanical origin of Seung Ma from Korea, the anatomical characteristics of Cimicfuga dahurica, Cimicifuga foetida, Cimicfuga heracleifolia and Cimicifuga simplex were studied. As a result, it was clarified that Seung Ma from Korea was the rhizomes of Cimicifuga dahurica, C, foetida and C, heracleifolia.

후박(厚朴)의 생약학적 연구 (Pharmacognostical Studies on the ‘Hoo Bak’)

  • 'Hoo Bak' is one of the Chinese crude drugs used mainly to cure a headache, apoplexy and dyspepsia. With regard to the botanical origin of 'Hoo Bak', it has been considered to be Machilus thunbergii of Lauraceae in Korea. But there has no pharmacognostical confirmation on it. To clarify the botanical origin of 'Hoo Bak', the anatomical characteristics of the bark of Machilus thunbergii, Magnolia officinalis and Magnolia obovata were studied. As a result, it was clarified that 'Hoo Bak' from Korea was the bark of Machilus thunbergii of Lauraceae.

백두옹의 생약학적 연구 (Pharmacognostical Studies on the 'BaegDuOng')

  • 'BaegDuOng(白頭翁)' is one of the Chinese crude drugs used mainly as a pruritus, arthritis, cough and abdominal pain. The botanical origin of the crude drug has never been studied pharmacognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of 'BaegDuOng', the morphological and anatomical characteristics of Pulsatilla species growing in Korea, i.e. Pulsatilla koreana Nakai and P. cernua (Thunb.) Spreng. were studied. As a result, BaegDuOng from Korea was proved to be the root of Pulsatilla koreana.

한국 민간약 다래잎의 생약학적 연구 (Pharmacognostical Study on the Korean Folk Medicine 'Da Rae Ip')

  • Korean folk medicine 'Da Rae Ip' has been used to cure intestinal catarrh, stomach cancer and acute gastritis. The botanical origin of the crude drug has never been studied pharmacognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of 'Da Rae Ip', the morphological and anatomical characteristics of the leaves of Actinidia species growing in Korea and Japan; i.e. A. arguta, A. arguta var. rufinervis, A. kolomikta, A. polygama, A. rufa were studied. As a result, it was clarified that 'Da Rae Ip' was the leaf of Actinidia arguta and Actinidia polygama.

  • 'O Ga Pi Ip' has been used in Korea to cure rheumatism, neuralgia, edema, dematopathy, and impotence. The botanical origin of the crude drug has not been confirmed pharmacognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of 'O Ga Pi Ip', the morphological and anatomical characteristics of the leaves of Acanthopanax species growing in Korea and Japan, A. chi-isanensis Nakai, A. Koreanum Nakai, A. rufinerve Nakai, A. senticosus (Rupr.et Maxim). Harms, A senticosus (Rupr.et Maxim.) for inermis Harms, A. seoulense Nakai, A sessiliflorus (Rupr. et Maxim.) Seem, A. divaricatus Seem, A. sieboldianum Makino were compared. As a result, it was determined that 'O Ga Pi Ip' was the leaf of A. sessiliflorus (Rupr. et Maxim.) Seem, A chiisanensis Nakai, and A. koreanum $Nakai_I$.

민간약 "암초"의 생약학적 연구 (Pharmacognostical Studies on the Folk Medicine 'Am Cho')

  • The Korean folk medicine 'Am Cho' has been used as the folk remedy for diuretic, stomach and liver cancer. The botanical origin of the crude drug has not been studied pharmacognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of 'Am Cho', the comparative morphological and anatomical characteristics have been studied of Lepisorus species growing wild in Korea, i.e. L. annuifrons, L. onoei, L. thunbergianus, L. ussuriensis and 'Am Cho' form Korea. As a result, it was clarified that 'Am Cho' from Korea was derived from Lepisorus onoei.
