The SIP method developed by low noise-vibration from Japan is appropriate to the construction at urban area. However, this method has been misused as a pre-driiled driven pile method in Korea. Hence, Korea Expressway Corporation proposed 'Design & Construction Guideline for the SIP Method' following the original concept of the SIP method at 2004 and 2006. Also construction guideline of another auger-drilled piles were introduced.

New Songdo city is currently developing on the reclaimed land on a marine deposit and among the development the four sixty-four(64) stories high rise buildings are under construction at block 125. The ground condition of the site is comprised of a deep seated weathered rock staratum under a soft marine deposit layer. As a foundation system, a bored pile was planned to transmit the applied load to the stable layer. In this study, the behavior of the weathered rock especially locating at a upper part having a weak strength(HWR, MWR) has been evaluated through series of hi-directional pile load test(BD PLT) carried out on the 3 drilled shafts socketed in a weathered rock layer in a design stage. It has been planned to increase the effect of the tests that the length of test piles was prepared short enough to perform the test under a high stress. The summary of the design reflecting the test results has been made up. In addition, the 4 hi-directional pile tests excuted on the working piles during the construction stage for the purpose of confirmation and the evaluation of the adequacy of the pile behaviors have been included in this study.
Pipe pile walls are commonly used as retaining structures for excavation projects, particularly in densely populated coastal cities such as Hong Kong. Pipe pile walls are preferred in reclaimed land due to their cost-effectiveness and convenience for installation. However, the pre-bored piling techniques used to install pipe piles can cause significant ground disturbance, posing risks to nearby sensitive structures. This study reports a well-documented case history in a reclamation site, and it was found that pipe piling could induce ground settlement of up to 100 mm. Statutory design submissions in Hong Kong typically specify a ground settlement alarm level of 10 mm, which is significantly lower than the actual settlement observed in this study. In addition, lateral soil movement of approximately 70 mm was detected in the marine deposit. The lateral soil displacement in the marine deposit was found to be up to 3.4 and 3.1 times that of sand fill and CDG, respectively, mainly due to the relatively low stiffness of the marine deposit. Based on the monitoring data and site-investigation data, a 3D numerical analysis was established to back-analyze soil movements due to the installation of the pipe pile wall. The comparison between measured and computed results indicates that the equivalent ground loss ratio is 20%, 40%, and 20% for the fill, marine deposit and CDG, respectively. The maximum ground settlement increases with an increase in the ground loss ratio of the marine deposit, whereas the associated influence radius remains stationary at 1.2 times the pipe pile wall depth (H). The maximum ground settlement increases rapidly when the thickness of marine deposit is less than 0.32H, particularly for the ground loss ratio of larger than 40%. This study provides new insights into the pipe piling construction in reclamation sites.
As the urban regeneration project and the old housing maintenance project are actively progressing in Korea, small-scale building construction is being carried out in downtown areas. Small buildings in the downtown area are constructed on about 4 to 10 floors, and since they are carried out in small units in residential areas, it is difficult to enter large equipment to construct existing piles, and it is more vulnerable to complaints about noise and vibration. in this study, helical piles suitable for urban areas or small sites where it is difficult to enter large equipment, such as noise and vibration. Reliability analysis was performed on the results of the static load tests and dynamic load tests conducted at the LH site and the bearing capacity calculated by the hydrostatic method and the empirical formula (N value). As a result of comparing and analyzing the design formula and the results of static load test and dynamic load tests, the correlation between the design formula of the bored pile (Road bridge design standard) formula using N value and the design formula by the modified Davisson method frequently used by method commonly European helical file practitioners.
A design method is presented for the earth-retaining structure ccnslructtd by a row of bored Piles, which has such merits as low-vibration and low-noire during construction. And utility of the design method is investigated by performing a design example. First, theoretical rquations to estimate the resisting force of a row of earth-retaining was in cohesive soils are estabilished for grounds above and below bottom of excavation, reprctively. The characteristics of soils and the effect pile's interval can be considered logically in the theoretical equations. Then, the method for stability.analysis is presented for the earth-retaining piles by applying the theoretical equation of resisting forces on a row of piles. Finally, the design of earth-retaining piles is performed within the ranges which can satisfy the stabilities of both piles and soils. On investigation cf the sail-stability, the stability for bottom heave In cohesive soils is also investigated.

At the construction site of the driving site, the pile rebound and penetration measurements are performed manually to determine the end point of the driving operation, thereby causing the measurer to be exposed to a death accident. In this study, in order to eliminate the risk of this work, a non-contact penetration measuring device was developed and usability evaluation was conducted. The penetration measuring device is manufactured based on the ultrasonic sensor, and can be combined with the pile to deliver the data in real time, and the delivered data can be output in real time on the portable PC and the final penetration can be calculated. Usability evaluation on the device was conducted by comparison with manual work. Usability evaluation was largely evaluated on measured values, subjective comfort, and body parts comfort. The result of the measured value tended to overestimate the value measured manually by the measuring device, which is similar to the previous research. In terms of subjective comfort and body part comfort, overall satisfaction was higher than the manual method when using the measuring device. Taken together, these results indicate that it is possible to use the rudder measuring device in place of manual work in the construction site, and it is judged that the worker's comfort is greatly increased by using the measuring machine. The results of this study suggest that the use of non-contact measuring device in the field can be used as basic data to support them.
In this study, experimental analysis was performed about lateral load capacity and behavior of laterally loaded-bored rigid piles in muti-layered soil conditions. Lateral pile load tests were performed for muti-layerd soils consisting of different relative density. Ultimated lateral load capacities were measured from lateral load-displacement curves and compared with estimated values using theoretical methods. Bending moments and unit lateral capacity distribution of surrounding piles were measured from attached strain gauges and earth pressure sensors on the pile. It was found that ultimated lateral load capacities were different from the muti-layered soil conditions, and measured values were lower than estimated values. The bending moment distributions of the pile were similar all the time. Unit lateral capacity distributions were a little different from muti-layered soil conditions, but basically similar to the distribution proposed by Prasad and Chari (1999).

Reliability between safety factor and reliability index for driven and bored pile load capacity was analyzed in this study. 0.1B, Chin, De Beer, and Davisson's methods were used for determining pile load capacity by using load-settlement curve from pile load test. Each method defines ultimate yield and allowable pile load capacities. LCPC method using CPT results was performed for comparing results of pile load test. Based on FOSM analysis using load factors, it is obtained that reliability indices for ultimate pile load capacity were higher than those of yield and allowable condition. Present safety factor 2 for yield and allowable load capacities is not enough to satisfy target reliability index $2.0{\sim}2.5$. However, it is sufficient for ultimate pile load capacity using safety factor 3.

In this study, two design examples of drilled shafts on soft ground in Ho-Chi-Minh City, Vietnam are introduced. One is for a 27-story apartment and the other is for a Arch bridge over Saigon river. Unlikely the normal cases in Korea, all of the bored pile foundations are supposed to be placed on soil layers. Therefore, skin friction between pile and ground is the most crucial design parameter. Three methods using SPT N value of sandy soil -Korean Road Bridge Code(1996), Reese and Wright (1977), and O'Neill and Reese (1988)- were adopted to obtain an ultimate axial bearing capacity. In order to verify the calculated bearing capacity, 3 sets of static load test and a Osterberg Cell test were performed at an apartment site and a bridge site respectively. LRFD (Load Resistance Factored Design) method was compared with ASD (Allowable Stress Design) method. On application of ASD method, safety factor for skin friction was adopted as 2 or 3 while safety factor for end bearing was 3. The design bearing capacities from ASD method matched well with those from LRFD method when safety factor for skin friction was adopted as 2.
The rotate penetration pile is a type of displacement pile: the surrounding soil is displaced when installing the pile, and the pile can exert a large bearing power and pullout force. In addition, it uses displaced soil method that does not generate slime, and its applications are increasing in foreign countries owing to the environmentally friendly characteristics such as small noise and vibration. However, mostly driven piles-which are directly driven to the ground, and bored pile- pre-fabricated piles are buried to prebored underground, are used; however, rotate penetration piles still have limited use. Most of the laboratory tests have been carried out until now to identify the support behavior after installation of piles and ground construction, the evaluating the support behavior is lacking due to the rotation intrusive process of the rotate penetration piles. Therefore, this study used indoor experiments simulating rotation intrusive process in weathered soil, to evaluate the bearing power behavior for the weathered soil, varying the diameter of the helical bearing plates, helical bearing plate spacing, number of the helical bearing plates, and helical bearing plate specifications. As the outcome of this study, the helical pile bearing power evaluation results, change in bearing power in accordance with main specifications, and review on the comparative analysis with the existing theories were provided.
