The domestic and foreign scholars conducted many studies on mechanical properties of wave web steel beam and high-strength spiral stirrups confined concrete columns. Based on the previous research work, studies were conducted on the anti-seismic property of the end plate bolt connected wave web steel beam and high-strength spiral stirrups confined concrete column nodes applied with pre-tightening force. Four full-size node test models in two groups were designed for low-cycle repeated loading quasi-static test. Through observation of the stress, distortion, failure process and failure mode of node models, analysis was made on its load-carrying capacity, deformation performance and energy dissipation capacity, and the reliability of the new node was verified. The results showed that: under action of the beam-end stiffener, the plastic hinges on the end of wave web steel beam are displaced outward and played its role of energy dissipation capacity. The study results provided reliable theoretical basis for the engineering application of the new types of nodes.
Bolt degradation has become a major issue in the nuclear industry since the 1980's due to failure during operation. If small cracks in stud bolt are not detected early enough, they grow rapidly and cause catastrophic disasters. Their detection, despite its importance, is known to be a very difficult problem due to the complicated structures of the stud bolts. This paper presents a method of detecting and sizing a small crack in the root between two adjacent crests in threads. The key idea is from the fact that the Rayleigh wave propagates slowly along a crack from the tip to the opening and is reflected from the opening mouth. When there exists a crack, a small delayed pulse due to the Rayleigh wave is detected between large regularly spaced pulses from the thread. The delay time is the same as the propagation delay time of the slow Rayleigh wave and is proportional to the size of the crack. To efficiently detect the slow Rayleigh wave, three methods based on digital signal processing are proposed : modified wave shaping, dynamic predictive deconvolution, and dynamic predictive deconvolution combined with wave shaping.
Gaskets are usually used for the sealing of flange joints. The joint is usually composed of two flanges, a ring gasket and clamping bolts. The metal ring gasket is suitable for pipe flanges, pumps and valve joints in high temperature and high pressure environments. A very high surface stress is developed between a ring type joint gasket and the flange groove when the ring type joint is bolted up in a flange. The dimensions of flanges and ring joint gaskets for the pipe sizes that are in common use are specified in the ANSI codes. However, sometimes it is necessary to make a new design for the flange joint which is not specified in the codes, as the equipment is getting larger and larger in size. This paper presents the contact behavior of Class 600 ring joint gaskets with oval and octagonal cross sections. Five different sizes of gaskets are employed in the analysis, and one of them is newly designed on the basis of analysis results obtained from existing models. Three load steps are used to find the stress, stain and contact pressure etc., and to compare the contact characteristics among the models due to the bolt clamping force and the working surface pressure. ANSYS Workbench version15 is used to conduct the finite element analysis.
This paper concerned with the behaviour of shaping formation and the erection for SCST structure by cable-tensioning for three kinds of structure models. The joint types of experimental models are ball type joints, bolt type joints with gusset plates, and bolt type joints. The feasibility of the proposed shaping method and the reliability of the established geometric model were confirmed with a nonlinear finite element analysis and an experimental investigation for full size scaled pyramid test model and three kinds of SCST structure models. The characteristic of the behaviour of each joint type is shown in the shaping test for practical design purposes. As a results, the behaviour characteristics of joints is very significant in shaping analysis of space structures. So the joint type should be considered in the design and analysis of the shape formation for space structures. Also, in the special field condition, it could be a fast and economical method for constructing the space structure.

Steel storage racks are slender structures whose overall behavior and the capacity depend largely on the flexural behavior of the base-plate to upright connections and on the behavior of beam-to-column connections. The base-plate upright connection assembly details, anchor bolt position in particular, associated with the high-rise steel storage racks differ from those of normal height steel storage racks. Since flexural behavior of high-rise rack base connection is hitherto unavailable, this investigation experimentally establishes the flexural behavior of base-plate upright connections of high-rise steel storage racks. This investigation used an enhanced test setup and considered nine groups of three identical tests to investigate the influence of factors such as axial load, base plate thickness, anchor bolt size, bracket length, and upright thickness. The test observations show that the base-plate assembly may significantly influence the overall behavior of such connections. A rigid plate analytical model and an elastic plate analytical model for the overall rotations stiffness of base-plate upright connections with concentric anchor bolts were constructed, and were found to give better predictions of the initial stiffness of such connections. Analytical model based parametric studies highlight and quantify the interplay of components and provide a means for efficient maximization of overall rotational stiffness of concentrically anchor bolted high-rise rack base-plate upright connections.
An experimental investigation to study the behaviour of connections between cold-formed steel (CFS) joist and plywood structural panel is presented in this paper. Material testing on CFS and plywood was carried out to assess their mechanical properties and behaviour. Push-out tests were conducted to determine the slip modulus and failure modes of three different shear connection types. The employed shear connectors in the study were; size 14 (6mm diameter) self-drilling screw, M12 coach screw, and M12 nut and bolt. The effective bending stiffness of composite cold-formed steel and plywood T-beam assembly is calculated based on the slip modulus values computed from push-out tests. The effective bending stiffness was increased by 25.5%, 18% and 30.2% for self-drilling screw, coach screw, nut and bolt, respectively, over the stiffness of cold-formed steel joist alone. This finding suggests the potential to enhance the structural performance of composite cold-formed steel and timber flooring system by mobilisation of composite action present between timber sheathing and CFS joist.
For a long-term mine development plan, the determination and design of mine tunnel size are very important because it is the basis of plans for equipment, transportation and operation. The ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ mine has had a difficulty in changing the mining plan due to the design of the tunnels with an emphasis on productivity improvement, and much effort was needed to maintain the mine tunnel. In this study, we designed the mine tunnel with optimized tunnel span considering the mechanical properties of rockmass and established the support plan. To do this, the estimation of the mechanical parameters(Swelling pressure, deformation coefficient and earth coefficient), field investigations and various analyses were carried out. As a result, it was necessary to consider the downsizing of the tunnel section in order to maintain the tunnel stability and dimension by using the roof bolt and analyzed that various functional constructions of the support material and method would be required to maintain the current tunnel size.

The 45-degree cone failure theory has been used in concrete anchor bolts design under shear loading, but the CCD (Concrete Capacity Design) method was adopted as a new design method since 2000. However, the method was allowed only for anchor diameters of less than 50mm because it is based on the experimental results of small size anchor bolts. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a rational concrete breakout capacity equation for medium-to-large size anchor bolts with large edge distance. In this study, shear tests on M56 cast-in-place single anchor bolt with edge distance of 350mm were performed using four test specimens. Based on the test results and findings of existing studies, a new equation for the breakout capacity of anchor bolts under shear loading with edge distance of up to 750mm was proposed.
In field fabrication of steel members, the oversize hole is frequently required due to reaming and mismatching. But, there are no provisions and investigations about oversize hole in the Korean specifications. So, in this study, the tension test of friction type high-tention bolted joints is performed with parameters of bolt hole size, surface treatment and tightening force, and investigate the effect of slip behavior with those parameters. From the results, the enough tightening force is needed to obtain some degree slip load in shot blast treatment case, although tightening force is reduced somewhat, it is no problem to guarantee slip load in zincrich primer case. The slip behavior of joints with oversize hole(26mm) is similar to the slip behavior of joints with hole of nominal size.
This paper presents the findings of an investigation carried out to determine the most appropriate connections, in terms of rotational stiffness, to use for the optimum design of cold-formed Zed section sleeve joint purlin system. Experiments and parametric studies were conducted to investigate the effects of geometric variables on the behavior of the sleeve-purlin and cleat-purlin connections of the sleeve joint purlin system. The variables considered were purlin size and thickness, sleeve size, thickness, length and bolt position. The test results were used to verify the empirical expressions, developed herein, employed to determine the rotational stiffness of connections. With the predicted connection stiffness, the most suitable sleeve-purlin and cleat-purlin connections can be selected so as to produce an optimum condition for the sleeve joint purlin system.
