  • This study aims to measure maximum holding times(MHTs) of symmetric and asymmetric whole body postures, and to compare three representative observational methods including OWAS, RULA, REBA, based on the MHTs. An experiment was conducted for obtaining the MHTs, in which hand position was used as experimental variable, and the MHT and subjective discomfort rating as dependent variables. The hand position was defined by the percentage of the shoulder height(%SH), the percentage of the arm reach(%AR) and rotation angle(R). The results showed that three independent variables of %SH, %AR and R significantly affected on the MHTs at ${\alpha}$=0.01, and that the MHTs were negatively linearly related to the discomfort scores of Borg CR10. It was also revealed that OWAS and REBA were less sensitive to postural stress than RULA. In addition, OWAS and REBA underestimated postural load of given postures compared to RULA. Therefore, it is recommended that among the three observational methods investigated in this study, RULA be used for a more precise evaluation of postural load.

  • Hemorrhage shock occupies high rate in trauma patient's mortality and blood pressure is the variance that judges early diagnosis and the effect of remedy. Systolic blood pressure is related to pulse transit time(PTT). PTT means the time that is required to flow from the heart to peripheral artery. PTT is influenced from the length, cross section and stiffness of the blood vessels. It is hard to evaluate the correlation between systolic blood pressure and PTT because they are variable in human body. In this paper, we evaluated the correlation between the systolic blood pressure and PTT in normal and hemorrhage states using standardized rat. PTT is defined as the time differences between the R peak and the peak of pulse wave. The analyzed time differences of ECG and blood pressure are analyzed every 5minutes for 30 seconds when there is before and after bleeding. Before bleeding, systolic blood pressure and PTT are steadily preserved but when the bleeding comes started, systolic blood pressure is declined. However PTT was increased and decreased. Under the circumstance that the standardized rat is controlled by age, the length of the blood vessels, and any disease, it shows that PTT measurement using systolic blood pressure of bleeding is impossible.

  • To use vibration energy to generate electricity, a resonance vertical linear electric generator was applied to the suspension of a vehicle in a previous paper. However, the working conditions, including mass change in the vehicle body related to the cargo on board, number of passengers and the temperature difference caused by the operating environment, can influence the permanent magnet, which is the main component of the electric generator. Therefore, a robust optimum design is required to minimize the influences from the diverse operation conditions and maximize the electromotive force of the electric generator. In this paper, a resonance linear electric generator is introduced. Vibration response analysis to find the input velocity of the electric generator and an electromagnetic transient analysis to apply changes in the performance of the permanent magnet are performed. Finally, the optimum value of each design variable is derived using a Taguchi method.

  • This study intends examine the relevance of factors with negative influences on anti-social sexual awareness formation in adolescents as per the concern of the parents of families with adolescents, as internet pornography exposure in adolescents lead to excessive indulgence in pornographic photographs, cartoons, videos, or fictions, or in video chatting with exposure of one's own body parts. For this, the factors of internet pornography exposure in the study subjects of adolescents were constructed into a multilateral model, and the structural equation model was analyzed. As the result of the study, the following conclusion were drawn. First, the most powerful factor influencing the anti-social sexual awareness in adolescents was, contrary to the concern of many, not the exposure to pornography through internet media, but personal characteristics such as sensation-seeking tendency and socio-environmental characteristic of differential association. Second, it is worth noting that the most major factor influencing intentional internet pornography exposure by adolescents is another form of pornography exposure. Third, whether intentional or unintentional, the internet-related variable influencing the internet pornography exposure was found to be the amount of internet usage. Fourth, the unintended internet pornography exposure was found to have no direct influence on the sexual awareness of adolescents, but it did have an indirect influence on sexual awareness mediated by intentional internet pornography exposure and existing-media pornography exposure. Based on these study results, the conclusion was drawn regarding the influence of internet pornography on sexual awareness in adolescents.

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a rapidly progressive neurodegenerative condition characterized by loss of motor neurons, resulting in motor weakness of the limbs and/or bulbar muscles. Pain is a prevalent but neglected symptom of ALS, and it has a significant negative impact on the quality of life of patients and their caregivers. This review outlines the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, underlying mechanisms, and management strategies of pain in ALS to improve clinical practice and patient outcomes related to pain. Pain is a prevalent symptom among patients with ALS, with a variable reported prevalence. It may occur at any stage of the disease and can involve any part of the body without a specific pattern. Primary pain includes neuropathic pain and pain from spasticity or cramps, while secondary pain is mainly nociceptive, occurring with the progression of muscle weakness and atrophy, prolonged immobility causing degenerative changes in joints and connective tissue, and long-term home mechanical ventilation. Prior to treatment, the exact patterns and causes of pain must first be identified, and the treatment should be tailored to each patient. Treatment options can be classified into pharmacological treatments, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antiepileptic drugs, drugs for cramps or spasticity, and opioid; and nonpharmacological treatments, including positioning, splints, joint injections, and physical therapy. The development of standardized and specific assessment tools for pain-specific to ALS is required, as are further studies on treatments to reduce pain, diminish suffering, and improve the quality of life of patients with ALS.

  • Although various statistical methods have been developed to map time-dependent genetic factors, most identified genetic variants can explain only a small portion of the estimated genetic variation in longitudinal traits. Gene-gene and gene-time/environment interactions are known to be important putative sources of the missing heritability. However, mapping epistatic gene-gene interactions is extremely difficult due to the very large parameter spaces for models containing such interactions. In this paper, we develop a Gaussian process (GP) based nonparametric Bayesian variable selection method for longitudinal data. It maps multiple genetic markers without restricting to pairwise interactions. Rather than modeling each main and interaction term explicitly, the GP model measures the importance of each marker, regardless of whether it is mostly due to a main effect or some interaction effect(s), via an unspecified function. To improve the flexibility of the GP model, we propose a novel grid-based method for the within-subject dependence structure. The proposed method can accurately approximate complex covariance structures. The dimension of the covariance matrix depends only on the number of fixed grid points although each subject may have different numbers of measurements at different time points. The deviance information criterion (DIC) and the Bayesian predictive information criterion (BPIC) are proposed for selecting an optimal number of grid points. To efficiently draw posterior samples, we combine a hybrid Monte Carlo method with a partially collapsed Gibbs (PCG) sampler. We apply the proposed GP model to a mouse dataset on age-related body weight.

  • Although an extensive body of research exists on sports uniform colors in the West, there is a dearth of research on South Korean sports uniforms, especially in the domain of professional teams ports. This study aims to identify and analyze the colors of sports uniforms of 56 professional teams listed on the Korea Professional Sports Association (KPSA) for a range of team sports (e.g. football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and golf). The number of colors of each team's uniform and the ordinal ranking of these colors were recorded and analyzed. Furthermore, the number of colors and parent company colors were grouped by gender and league. Overall, 80.4% of the teams preferred three to four colors with white, black, blue, and red being the most popular colors. Every team's primary, secondary, or graphic logo colors on their uniforms included white. The gender variable was partially significant, emphasizing culturally significant colors such as pink. The parent company's color showed a significant connection with the team's uniform colors. This result was related to the historical origins of South Korean professional team sports and their unique relationship with chaebols. Based on the findings, this study concludes that visibility and contrast factors, as well as historical aspects relating to the concept of glocalization play an important role in the color choices of South Korean team uniforms.
