Methods : First, cases of diagnosis and treatment of internal damage fever were collected from various classical texts, then a module was developed according to pre-existing standardized patient program's protocols based on selected cases. Careful consideration was given to developing evaluation criteria on history taking and physical examination that are necessary to accurately differentiating the 9 types. Results : Nine types of differentiation models on internal damage fever were selected, which are qi deficiency from overexertion/fatigue and famish; blood deficiency from overexertion/fatigue, famish and fullness; fire stagnation from excessive eating and cold foods; food damage; yang deficiency; yin deficiency; phlegm; stagnated blood; liver qi stagnation. For each type, evaluation criteria in regards to history taking, physical examination, communication with patient, and patient education were developed. Conclusions : When developing a standardized patient program using internal damage fever cases, it would better reflect the characteristics of Korean Medicine in clinical education of Korean Medicine if the program is based on classical texts. It would also be useful in evaluating students' graduation competence in exams such as CPX.

  • Most of the cholesterol is synthesized by liver in the body while about one of third is taken via dietary. The main functions of cholesterol is to protect membranes in cell surface, avoid the arterial bleeding by hypertension, and prolong the life of erythrocytes, and so on. However, overload of cholesterol leads to arteriosclerosis associated with leading death cause. Lack of physical activity, emotional and environmental stress, and low intake of protein or vitamin E induce the unbalance between HDL- and LDL-cholesterol so become a basis of ischemic disorders in heart, brain and elsewhere in the body. So far, four major classes of medications for hyperlipidemia are HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins), bile acid sequestrants, nicotinic acid, and fibric acids. The statins can lower LDL and levels triglyceride, but may induce myopathy and an elevation of liver enzyme levels. The bile acid sequestrants lower LDL levels and raise HDL levels with no effect on triglyceride levels but side effects of gastrointestinal (GI) distress, constipation, and a decrease in the absorption of other drugs. Nicotinic acid and fibric acids lower LDL and triglyceride levels with showing flushing, hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia, GI distress, and hepatotoxicity dyspepsia, gallstones, myopathy, and unexplained noncardiac death as adverse effects. Above western drugs lower cholesterol by 15 to 30% while all have notable adverse effects. In traditional medicine, hyperlipidemia is regarded as retention of phlegm and fluid disease. Etiology and pathogenesis of hyperlipidemia is basically based on Spleen-Deficiency and Phlegm-Stagnation, accumulation and stasis of -heat, and Qi & blood stagnation induced by Phlegm-damp, water-dampness, and blood stasis. Thereby, strengthening Spleen and dissolving Phlegm, clearing away heat and diuresis, and supplementing Qi and activating blood circulation are commonly used therapeutic methods for hyperlipidemia. The traditional herbal medicine, have been used for patients with CVA, hypertension or hyperlipidemia in Oriental hospital or Oriental clinic. The lock and key theory is used to develop most of western medicine, however many diseases are caused by mixed factors in body-complex system. We expect that Oriental pharmacological theory could be newborn as a novel drug showing high advantage of blood levels of lipidsand QOL of performance without side effects.

  • To complement and develop the treatment of Oriental medicine, I have observed and analysed 11 persons who have undertaken Samhabtang (三合湯) because of the epigastric pain. Considering and analysing the clinical diagnoses, complaints, ages, and so on, I have obtained the conclusion as follows. 1. The main method of treatment is remove obstruction method (通法), because pathogenesis of epigastric pain is obstruction of the flow of ki occurs pain (不通則痛). 2. Chronic epigastric pain is developed by stagnation of ki (氣滯). stagnation of blood (血瘀), deficiency of vital essence (陰虛), pathogenic cold (寒邪). 3. Samhabtang (三合湯) effects on above symptoms, so it may cure chronic epigastric pain. 4. This clinical study of Samhabtang (三合湯) shows 81.8% of effective rate.

  • We treated 1 case of primary infertility woman. She had three clinical problems. The first was endometrosis stage II, the second was tubar obstruction and the third was chronic persistent hepatitis B. Eometrosis and tubar obstruction are similar to 'blood stagnation'. And another clinical symptoms could be considered with 'asthenia of spleen and stagnation of wetness-evil'. So our prescriptions for this case were Heylbudu.Jcgeu-Tang and Samchulgunbi-Tang. And the prescription of acupuncture therapy was consist with Sp. 6, Ren. 4, Jagung, P. 6, and St. 36. So we got a successful result from above therapies. But we have to take continued follow-up plans for endometriosis and chronic persistent hepatits B.
