  • A numerical method for the assessment and correction of tunnel wall interference effects on forced-oscillation testing is presented. The method is based on the wall pressure signature method using computed wall pressure distributions. The wall pressure field is computed using unsteady three-dimensional full Navier-Stokes solver for a 70-degree pitching delta wing in a wind tunnel. Approximately-factorized alternate direction implicit (AF-ADI) scheme is advanced in time by solving block tri-diagonal matrices. The algebraic Baldwin-Lomax turbulence, model is included to simulate the turbulent flow effect. Also, dual time sub-iteration with, local, time stepping is implemented to improve the convergence. The computed wall pressure field is then imposed as boundary conditions for Euler re-simulation to obtain the interference flow field. The static computation shows good agreement with experiments. The dynamic computation demonstrates reasonable physical phenomena with a good convergence history. The effects of the tunnel wall in upwash and blockage are analyzed using the computed interference flow field for several reduced frequencies and amplitudes. The corrected results by pressure signature method agree well with the results of free air conditions.

  • Since the oil shocks of 1970s, the quality of the fuel oil for marine diesel engines has become more degarded than ever. When the poorer quality fuel is burned, carbon residues of the fuel oil cause blockage of the fuel injection valve nozzle and troubles of fuel injection system. The mis-firing of engine occurs due to the decrease of fuel quantity injected, the decrease of compression pressure in the slow speed range, the increase of fuel leaked and the high ignition temperature of degraded fuel etc. This paper is to investigate theoretically the effects of mis-firing on the crankshaft axial vibration of diesel engine. The cylinder pressure in operation is calculated by the computer aided simulation of closed cycle for a large two-stroke diesel engine and also the exciting force of axial vibration and the resonance amplitudes are calculated. And then, the condition of normal state, misfiring and one-cylinder cut-off operation are analyzed. The results of calculations show good agreements with those of the actual measurements.

  • Dehydrocostus lactone (DHL) and Mokko lactone (ML) were isolated from Saussureae Radix, and their effects on heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression and hepatoprotection in the liver cell line HepG2 were investigated. DHL induced HO-1 expression and HO activity in a dose-dependent manner, whereas ML lacking one double bond property at 11 and 13 carbons on its own chemical structure had no apparent effects. DHL also induced Nrf2 nuclear translocation and enhanced antioxidant response element (ARE) activation which mediated HO-1 gene transcription. Pretreatment with DHL protected HepG2 cells against oxidative damages caused by H2O2. Interestingly, the hepatoprotective effects of DHL appeared to be associated with HO enzymatic activation, HO-1 expression and Nrf2 activation, because blockage of HO activity by a HO inhibitor and inhibition of HO-1 and Nrf2 cellular synthesis by small interfering RNA abolished heptoprotection afforded by DHL. Taken together, this investigation provides evidence supporting that Saussureae Radix is hepatoprotective against oxidative stress that causes abnormal liver damages.

  • Aerodynamic measures have been widely used for improving the flutter stability of long-span bridges, and this paper focuses their windproof ability to improve the wind environment for vehicles. The whole wind environment around a long-span bridge located in high altitude mountainous areas is first studied. The local wind environment above the deck is then focused by two perspectives. One is the windproof effects of aerodynamic measures, and the other is whether the bridge with aerodynamic measures meets the requirement of flutter stability after installing extra wind barriers in the future. Furthermore, the effects of different wind barriers are analyzed. Results show that aerodynamic measures exert potential effects on the local wind environment, as the vertical stabilizer obviously reduces wind velocities behind it while the closed central slot has limited effects. The suggested aerodynamic measures have the ability to offset the adverse effect of the wind barrier on the flutter stability of the bridge. Behind the wind barrier, wind velocities decrease in general, but in some places incoming flow has to pass through the deck with higher velocities due to the increase in blockage ratio. Further comparison shows that the wind barrier with four bars is optimal.

  • In the present works, the High-speed Cavitation Tunnel (HCT) has been designed and manufactured to have the large test section to conduct various supercavitation experiments. The large amount of air ventilated behind a cavitator produces lots of tiny bubbles, which prevent clear observation of supercavitation at the test section. To collect small bubbles effectively, a bubble collecting section of large volume is equipped upstream of the test section. HCT has the test section dimension of $0.3^H{\times}0.3^W{\times}3.0^L\;m^3$ and provides maximum flow speed of 20.4 m/s at the test section. The blockage and Froude effects on the ventilated supercavitation are investigated successfully at the test section. The basic studies such as the supercavitation evolution, drag measurements and cavity shape extraction with air flow rate are also carried out in HCT.

  • The bridge crossing river is the one of the major factors causing backwater level rising. Furthermore, the bridges in the mountainous areas increase the flood damage in the upstream of the bridge due to the blockage by debris. In this research, the effects of debris to the magnitude of flood damage in the study river basin were simulated by using HEC-RAS and HEC-GeoRAS models. With assumption that the backwater caused by debris blocking the space between bridge piers is the only factor causing inundation, the unsteady flow simulation was carried out with various case studies. The potential inundation area with the overflow locations and volumes could be estimated as the results of simulation. However, the simulation results also reveal the limitations of inaccurate estimation of inundation area and depth. To overcome these hindrances, DEM and satellite images were applied to the simulation. By readjusting the inundation area using digital maps and satellite images and calibrating overflow volume and depth using DEM, the accuracy of simulation could be increased resulting more accurate flood damage estimation.

  • The frequent handover problem and playing ping-pong effects in 5G (5th Generation) ultra-dense networking cannot be effectively resolved by the conventional handover decision methods, which rely on the handover thresholds and measurement reports. For instance, millimetre-wave LANs, broadband remote association techniques, and 5G/6G organizations are instances of group of people yet to come frameworks that request greater security, lower idleness, and dependable principles and correspondence limit. One of the critical parts of 5G and 6G innovation is believed to be successful blockage the board. With further developed help quality, it empowers administrator to run many systems administration recreations on a solitary association. To guarantee load adjusting, forestall network cut disappointment, and give substitute cuts in case of blockage or cut frustration, a modern pursuing choices framework to deal with showing up network information is require. Our goal is to balance the strain on BSs while optimizing the value of the information that is transferred from satellites to BSs. Nevertheless, due to their irregular flight characteristic, some satellites frequently cannot establish a connection with Base Stations (BSs), which further complicates the joint satellite-BS connection and channel allocation. SF redistribution techniques based on Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) have been devised, taking into account the randomness of the data received by the terminal. In order to predict the best capacity improvements in the wireless instruments of 5G and 6G IoT networks, a hybrid algorithm for deep learning is being used in this study. To control the level of congestion within a 5G/6G network, the suggested approach is put into effect to a training set. With 0.933 accuracy and 0.067 miss rate, the suggested method produced encouraging results.

  • In recent decades, numerous instances of blockages have been reported in coastal nuclear power plants globally, leading to serious safety accidents such as power reduction, manual or automatic power loss, or shutdown of nuclear power units. Loss or shortage of cooling water may compromise the reliability of the cooling water system, thus threatening the operational safety of power plants and resulting in revenue reduction. This study provides a comprehensive review of the current state of cooling water system safety in coastal nuclear power plants worldwide and the common challenges they face, as well as the relevant research on cooling water system safety issues. The research overview and progress in investigation methods, outbreak mechanisms, prevention and control measures, and practical cases of blockages were summarized. Despite existing research, there are still many shortcomings regarding the pertinence, comprehensiveness and prospects of related research, and many problems urgently need to be solved. The most fundamental concern involves understanding the list of potential risks of blockages and their spatially distributed effects in surrounding waters. Furthermore, knowledge of the biological cycles and ecological habits of key organisms is essential for implementing risk prevention and control and for building a scientific and effective monitoring system.

  • From the view of the environmental protection against the use of fossil fuels, a great of efforts have been exerted to find an alternative energy source. Hydrogen may become an alternative However the product species of the hydrogen flame is only $H_2O$, which emits only non-luminous radiation so the radiation from it is much smaller than that for a hydrocarbon flame. In this study, the authors designed and fabricated a laboratory scale test furnace to study thermal characteristics of hydrogen-air diffusion flame. In addition. the effects of addition of reacting as welt as non-reacting solid particles were experimentally investigated. Among the total heat flux to the wall, about 75 % was occupied by radiation while 25% by convection. When the aluminum oxide (Al$_2$O$_3$) particles were added, the radiative heat flux was reduced due to heat blockage effects. On the other hand, the total as well as the radiative heat flux was increased when the carbon particles were seeded, since the overall temperature increased. The effects of swirl and excess air ratio were also examined.
