  • Blasting method is used most engineering works for rock excavation. Blasting method is done much to upgrade of operation efficiency, contraction of construction period than other method. But blasting method happens damage by blasting vibration, nose and scattering. Therefore this study examined about effect, characteristic and application of Plasma method. To confirm effect measured vibration, noise and frequency, and analyzed data compare with general blasting.

  • In this "Wonju~Jaecheon double-lanes railroad" project, a highway is located at about 13meter above a tunnel. Initially, rock-splitting method was used for the tunnel excavation in order to minimize the possible damage on the highway. The method, however, takes a long time for the tunnel excavation and that may cause other problems like large displacement of tunnel and subsidence of highway ground before the tunnel can be stabilized by supporters. Therefore, the application of electronic blasting method(eDdevII) was recommended to control the blast vibration below 1.0cm/sec as well as to prevent the subsidence of highway ground. The analysis of the influence of tunnel excavation on the highway showed that electric blasting method is permissible for the safe management of the highway. Based on that, the tunnel construction under a highway could be carried out quickly and safely without any damages on the highway.

Damage zone induced by quasi-static gas pressure during blasting (준정적인 발파 가스압에 의한 암반의 손상 영역 예측)

  • It is essential to predict a blasting-induced excavation damage zone (EDZ) beyond the proposed excavation line of a tunnel because the unwanted damage area requires extra support system for tunnel safety. Complicated blasting process which may hinder a proper characterization of the damage zone can be effectively represented by two loading mechanisms. The one is a dynamic impulsive load generating stress waves outwards immediately after detonation. The other is a gas pressure that remains for a relatively long time. Since the gas pressure reopens up the arrested cracks and continues to extend some cracks, it contributes to the final formation of EDZ induced by blasting. This paper presents the simple method to evaluate EDZ induced by gas pressure during blasting in rock. The EDZ is characterized by analyzing crack propagation from the blasthole. To do this, a model of the blasthole with a number of radial cracks of equal length in an infinite elastic plane is considered. In this model, the crack propagation is simulated by using three conditions, the crack propagation criterion, the mass conservation of the gas, and the adiabatic condition. As a result, the stress intensity factor of the crack generally decreases as crack propagates from the blasthole so that the length of the crack is determined. In addition, the effect of rock properties, initial number of cracks, and the adiabatic exponent are investigated.

Displacement and Stress Monitoring for Excavation Deep Foundation (인접지역의 깊은 터파기 굴착에서 변위 및 응력의 계측)

  • The excavation works for deep foundation in urban areas have recently increased complaints of blasting vibration and settlement of ground level. Foundation must be excavated approximately up to 24-28m depths from the surface. The roads and subway line pass through the excavation area. The Dae-chung station is also located at the nearest distance 5-35m from the working site. To protect subway station and adjacient some structures from blasting and settlement, the level of ground vibration, displacements and stress were monitored and analyzed. The results can be summarized as follows ; 1. An empirical particle velocity equation were obtained by test blasts at Nassan Missi 860 Office tel construction site. $V{\;}={\;}K(D/\sqrt{W})^{-n}$, where the values for n and k are estimated tobe 0.371 and 1.551. From this ground vibration equation, the max. charge weight per delay time against distance from blasting point is calculated. Detailed blasting method is also presented. 2. To measure the horizontal displacement in directions perpendicular to the borehole axis, 6 inclinometers installed around working sites. The displacement at the begining was comparatively high because the installation of struts was delayed, but after its installation the values showed a stable trend. Among them, the displacement by 3 inclinometers installed on a temporary parking area showed comparatively high values, for example, the displacement measured at hole No. IC-l recoded the max. 47.04mm for 6 months and at hole No. IC-2 recorded the max. 57.33mm for 7 months. So, all of these data was estimated below a safe standard value 103mm. 3. Seven strain gauge meter was installed of measure the magnitude and change of stress acted on structs. The measured value of maximum stress was $-465{\;}kgf/\textrm{cm}^2,{\;}-338.4{\;}kgf/\textrm{cm}^2,{\;}302.3{\;}kgf/\textrm{cm}^2$ respectively. In compareto the allowable stress level of steel, they are estimated to be safe.

Analysis on the Characteristics of Rock Blasting-induced Vibration Based on the Analysis of Test Blasting Measurement Data (시험발파 계측자료 분석을 통한 암석 발파진동 특성 분석)

  • This study examined blast testing measurement data which had been obtained from 97 field sites in Korea to investigate the comprehensive characteristics of rock blasting-induced vibration focusing on the effect of excavation types (tunnel, bench) and rock types. The measurement data was from the testing sites mostly in Kangwon province and Kyungsang province and rock types were granite, gneiss, limestone, sand stone, and shale in the order of number of data. The study indicated that the blasting-induced vibration velocity was affected by the excavation types (tunnel, bench) and bench blasting induced higher velocity than tunnel blasting. In addition, the vibration velocity was also highly affected by the rock types and therefore, it can be concluded that rock types should be considered in the future to estimate a blasting-induced vibration velocity. Furthermore, the pre-existing criteria was compared with the results of this study and the comparison indicated that there was a discernable difference except for tunnel blasting results based on the square root scaling and therefore, further studies and interests, which include the effects of rock strength, joint characteristics, geological formation, excavation type, power type, measurement equipment and method, might be necessarily in relation to the estimation of blasting-induced vibration velocity in rock mass.

Determination of equivalent blasting load considering millisecond delay effect

  • In the analysis of the effects of rock tunnel blasting vibration on adjacent existing buildings, the model of simplified equivalent load produces higher calculation result of vibration, due to the lack of consideration of the millisecond delay effect. This paper, based on the static force equivalence principle of blasting load, proposes a new determination method of equivalent load of blasting vibration. The proposed method, based on the elastic-static force equivalence principle of stress wave, equals the blasting loads of several single blastholes in the same section of millisecond blasting to the triangle blasting load curve of the exploded equivalent elastic boundary surface. According to the attenuation law of stress wave, the attenuated equivalent triangle blasting load curve of the equivalent elastic boundary is applied on the tunnel excavation contour surface, obtaining the final applied equivalent load. Taking the millisecond delay time of different sections into account, the time-history curve of equivalent load of the whole section applied on the tunnel excavation contour surface can be obtained. Based on Sailing Tunnel with small spacing on Sanmenxia-Xichuan Expressway, an analysis on the blasting vibration response of the later and early stages of the tunnel construction is carried out through numerical simulation using the proposed equivalent load model considering millisecond delay effect and the simplified equivalent triangle load curve model respectively. The analysis of the numerical results comparing with the field monitoring ones shows that the calculation results obtained from the proposed equivalent load model are closer to the measured ones and more feasible.

Application of Pre-Fracturing Blast for Blast-Induced Damaged Zone Control (암반 손상대 제어를 위한 선행이완발파 시공 적용 사례)

  • Pre-fracturing, a type of pre-conditioning blast, is a method used to weaken rock masses prior to mechanical excavation. In this study, various laboratory tests were conducted on rock core samples obtained from the field to verify the effectiveness of pre-fracturing in controlling the BIDZ (Blast-Induced Damaged Zone) by measuring the physical properties of rock cores obtained from a test site and assessing changes in these properties. In the EDZ (Excavation Damaged Zone) caused by combined excavation using blasting and mechanical excavation, the effect of blasting is generally more significant than that of mechanical excavation, so BIDZ control directly leads to EDZ control. In terms of Poisson's ratio, elastic wave velocity, porosity, density, thermal conductivity, tensile strength and hydraulic conductivity, the BIDZ size in pre-fracturing was smaller than that of conventional blasting. However, no clear reduction in the BIDZ was observed in the case of Young's modulus and uniaxial compressive strength. By applying a theoretical formula predicting the range of tensile cracks caused by blasting and comparing it with the laboratory results, the BIDZ was reasonably predicted. Nonetheless, limitations in accurately predicting BIDZ size were identified due to assumptions regarding ground conditions and charge density in the formula.

  • When performing the tunnel excavation blasting, the lower road structure can cause the damage of the structure caused by blasting vibration. In this case the existing structurel meet all of the static and the dynamic stability. But in the domestic management of building structures is presented vibration and is the only criteria, and the criteria for major civil engineering structures insufficient research situation. This study examined the influence of the road structure according to the blast vibration by utilizing the numerical analysis.

  • The messer shield method applys mainly to a tunnel with small cross-section of a weathered soil or weathered rock district and is fulfilled mostly by man-power excavation. but in case that hard rock exposes on tunnel face, incredible is an application of the rock-splitting method using a hydraulic power or a blasting method. This study represents the case of a blasting method which can control to be practiced by the minimum charges of 125 g an initial vibration occurring at the cut instead of the rock-splitting method, even though water pipe and gas pipe are closely adjacent.

  • In most tunnel constructions in South Korea, blasting has been widely used as an excavation method. In tunnel blasting, the center-cut to induce first free surface is very important for enhancing excavation efficiency and reducing vibration caused by exploding. This paper introduces new center-cut method named SAV-cut (Stage Advance V-cut) developed on the concept of V-cut. Significant features of SAV-cut are the center hole and stepwise ignition. Many field tests and numerical analysis were carried out to analyze the mechanical behavior and blasting vibration. From the results, the newly developed SAV-cut was proved as an effective center-cut method for both increasing blasting efficiency and decreasing blasting vibration.
