  • Recently, the volume of mobile data traffic increases exponentially due to the emergence of various mobile services. In order to resolve the problem of mobile traffic increase, various new technologies have been devised. Especially, two-way relay communication in which two nodes can transfer data simultaneously through relay node, has gained lots of interests due to its capability to improve spectral efficiency. In this paper, we analyze the SM-PNC which combines Physical-layer Network Coding (PNC) and Spatial Modulation (SM) under two-way relay communication environment. Log-Likelihood Ratio (LLR) is considered and both separate decoding and direct decoding have been taken into account in performance analysis. Through performance evaluation, we have found that the bit error rate of the proposed scheme is improved compared to that of the conventional PNC scheme, especially when SNR is high and the number of antennas is large.

  • This paper describes the performance evaluation and analysis of Wireless Local Area Network (W-LAN) in the 5 GHz ISM-band in compliance with IEEE 802.11a. At present, most W-LAN products are based on 2.4 GHz band, but low speed (11Mbps) has the limitation to serve systems demanding high-speed data transmission. To solve this problem, it is necessary to design next generation W-LAN system with 54Mbps in the 5GHz. It is sure that implementation of next generation W-LAN will bring competitive advantages. In particular, it will support telecommunications for high-speed mobile environments as well as for fixed places such as a school zone, a lecture room, a hospital and other premises. A few simulation methods are applied to more accurate and reliable performance analysis of next generation W-LAN. To verify if continuous data service is supported for a high-speed mobile notebook, multi-path fading channels between wireless Access Point (AP) and wireless Network Interface Card (NIC) are modeled. In addition, low interference is analyzed via convolutional codes and Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM). Also, to obtain reliable Bit Error Rate (BER), a single tap Least Mean Square (LMS) equalizer is applied. Given the above simulation, next generation W-LAN is an ideal solution for continuous data transmission in high-speed mobile environments.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient sphere decoding scheme that reduces computational complexity by combining receive and transmit ordering techniques in generalized spatial modulation systems, where the indexes of activated transmit antennas as well as the transmit symbols are exploited to transfer information to the receiver. In this scheme, the receive signals are optimally ordered so that the calculation for a candidate solution outside the sphere is terminated early to lower the computational complexity. In addition, the transmit ordering technique is applied to first search for candidate symbols and activated antennas having higher probabilities to further reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed doubly ordered sphere decoding scheme provides the same bit error rate performance with the conventional sphere decoding method and the sphere decoder employing only the receive ordering technique while it requires lower computational complexity.

  • In this paper, we analyzed and measured the electrical crosstalk characteristics of a triplex transceiver module for ethernet Passive optical networks(EPONS). And we improved the electrical crosstalk levels using Dummy ground lines with signal lines. The triplex transceiver module consists of a laser diode as a transmitter, a digital photodetector as a digital data receiver, and a analog photodetector as a community antenna television signal receiver. And there are integrated on silicon substrate. The digital receiver and analog receiver sensitivity have to meet -24 dBm at $BER=10^{-l2}$ and -7.7 dBm at 44 dB SNR. And the electrical crosstalk levels have to maintain less than -86 dB from DC to 3 GHz. From analysis and measurement results, the proposed silicon substrate structure that contains the Dummy ground line with $100\;{\mu}m$ space from signal lines and separates 4 mm among devices respectively, is satisfied the electrical crosstalk level compared to simple structure. This proposed structure can be easily implemented with design convenience and greatly reduced the silicon substrate size about $50\%$.

  • An adaptive array antennal and a CCI canceller have been considered as techniques for cancelling Multi-User Interference(MUI) in Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access(DS-CDMA) system. These techniques have different problems respectively in the process of cancelling MUI as the number of users increases. For that reason, the scheme which can cancel MUI effectively by compensating for the problems of each of the techniques has been required. For the scheme, the technique to connect an adaptive array antenna and a CoChannel Interference(CCI) canceller in cascade form has been studied. In the existing study about the cascade connection method, the effect of cancelling MUI about two interference signals is analyzed, but the analysis for the quantitative BER(Bit Error Rate) improvement according to the number of users is not considered. Therefore, in this paper, we have analyzed the degree of BER performance improvement quantitatively according to the number of users by introducing the receiving system, which connects an adaptive array antenna and a CCI canceller to a DS-CDMA system in cascade form. For the method of analyzing the performance, we have performed the theoretical analysis and the simulation, considering the case of adopting only an adaptive array antenna and of cascade connection respectively, and having compared and analyzed the results. From the results, it is confirmed that in the case of adopting only an adaptive array antenna, the problems occur in the process of cancelling MUI according to the number of users and the receiving direction of interference signals, and can be compensated by the cascade connection method. In conclusion, we have known that MUI is cancelled effectively by using the cascade connection method, and the much better BER performance improvement is obtained.

  • The multi-band (MB) ultra-wideband (UWB) communication system divides its available frequency spectrum in 3.1 to 10.6GHz into 16 sub-bands, which leads to inherent disparities between carrier frequencies of each sub-band. For instance, the highest carrier frequency is 2.65 times higher than the lowest one. Since the propagation loss is proportional to the square of the transmission frequency, the propagation loss on the sub-band having the highest carrier frequency is approximately 7 times larger than that on the sub-band having the lowest carrier frequency, which results in disparities between received signal powers on each sub-band. In this paper, we propose a novel correlation scheme for frequency hopping (FH) MB UWB communications, where the correlation time is adaptively adjusted relative to the sub-band, which reduces the disparity between the received signal energies on each sub-band. Such compensation for lower received powers on sub-bands having higher carrier frequency leads to an improvement on the total average bit error rate (BER) of the entire FH MB UWB communication system. We analyze the performance of the proposed correlation scheme in Nakagami fading channels, and it is shown that the performance gain provided by the proposed correlator is more significant as the Nakagami fading index n increases (i.e., better channel conditions).

  • The multi-code spread spectrum communication system, which spreads data bit stream by multiplexing orthogonal codes, can transmit data in high rate. However it needs the high-cost good linear amplifier because of the multi-level output signal. In order to overcome this drawback several systems making the amplitude of output signal constant with Walsh codes have been proposed. Recently constant amplitude pre-coded multi-code spread spectrum systems using extended m-sequence have been proposed. In this paper we consider an extended m-sequence based constant amplitude multi-code spread spectrum system with code set partitioning. By grouping the orthogonal codes into 4 subsets, not only is the computational complexity of the transceiver reduced but BER performance also improves. It has been shown that parity checking on four detected codes at the receiver can correct code detection error and result in BER performance enhancement. In this paper we propose a improved parity check receiver. We carried out computer simulation to verify feasibility of the proposed algorithm.

  • The sound speed of seawater can be calculated by the empirical formula as a function of temperature, salinity and pressure. It is little affected by salinity because the average salinity is 34 psu and varies within a few psu seasonally and spatially in the ocean. Recently, low-salinity water of 24 psu flows into the western sea area of Jeju Island due to the flood of the Yangtze River in China during summer, affecting sound speed profile. In this paper, it was analyzed how environmental changes affected to the underwater communication - the sound speed of low-salinity water was calculated, and the communication channel was estimated by the simulated acoustic rays while the transmitting and receiving depth and the range were varied with and without the low-salinity layer. And The BER (Bit error rate) was calculated by BPSK(Binary phase shift key) modulation and the effects of the low-salinity water on the BER was investigated. The sound speed profile was changed to have positive slope by the low-salinity layer at the sub-surface up to 20 m of depth, forming acoustic wave propagation channel at the sub-surface resulting in the decrease of most of the BER Consequently, this paper suggests that it is important to consider changes of the ocean environment for correctly analyzing the underwater communication and the detection capability.

  • This paper proposes a numerical analysis to prove that the performance of the differential phase detections (DPDs) with the decision feedback, such as the decision feedback DPD (DF-DPD) and the DPD with recursively generated phase reference (DPD-RGPR), approach the performance of the coherent detection with differential decoding. The conventional differential phase detection for M-ary DPSK can make the receiver architecture simple, while it can make the bit-error rate (BER) performance poor because of the previous noisy phase as a reference phase. To improve the BER performance of the conventional differential detection, multiple symbol differential detection methods, including DF-DPD and DPD-RGPR, have been proposed. However, the studies on the analysis and on the comparison of these methods have been little performed. Then, this paper mathematically intends to analyze and compare the performance of the DPDs with the decision feedback. The analysis results show that the DPDs with the decision feedback can have the performance equal to that of the coherent detection with differential decoding and be available for the noncoherent detection in the improved performance. Considering the hardware complexity, the DPD RGPR with the simple detection process by using the recursively generated phase reference can be more simply implemented than the DF-DPD based on the architecture whose complexity increases according to the increasing detection length.

  • This paper drives the exact expression of bit error rate(BER) performance for successive interference cancellation(SIC) algorithm against multipath interference components in a high-speed downlink packet access(HSDPA) system of W-CDMA downlink and the BER performance is evaluated by numerical analysis. Numerical results showed that the average BER performance is rapidly saturated in terms of increasing the number of multipath and is revealed significant improvement for improvement Processing gain(PG). For example, the average BER Performance of the SIC algorithm is superior to the performance of conventional scheme by more than 7dB and 1.4dB for processing gain PG=54 and 128 under the two-path channel and average BER=$1.0{\times}10^{-3}$, respectively. This results also indicated that the average BER saturation is occurred at nearly one weight factor which is assigned to pilot and data channels. Likewise, the average BER performance is greatly degraded due to increasing the interference power in proportional to the number of multipath with increasing multicode K. And the smaller multipath fading channel gain is arrived later, the more the average BER performance is improved. The results of performance analysis in this paper indicated that the multipath interference cancellation is required to improve the BER performance in a HSDPA system under multicode for high-speed packet transmission, low spreading factor, and multipath fading channel.
